To not understand the prejudice against asda on here?

Seen a couple of comments about asda on here, seems they are quite looked down on by some. I don't really get it. The food is no better and no worse than the other big names in this area (tesco and morrisons) the prices are low, and the staff are generally lovely and very helpful, at least the ones in my local are. So whats the problem with asda (ignoring the current Christmas add which whilst cringeworthy is not the worst I have seen)

Sainsbury's would be my first choice of supermarket if someone else was paying . Their stuff is generally excellent but their own brand products tend to be priced very close to the brands so you don't save much if you buy non-branded (like me) and their fruit and veg on offer costs the same or more than Morrison's regular prices.

I shop at Asda because it is our closest big supermarket. In the previous two places I lived in I shopped at Waitrose and Sainsburys respectively because they were the closest. I suspect that's what a lot of people do. Just go with the most convenient good supermarket.

Ours is very good though, very large and good quality fresh produce. The clientele can be a bit, err, downmarket sometimes but I am shopping for products, not people, so it doesn't bother me.

I don't shop at Asda because there isn't one anywhere near where we live, I've actually never been to one so I have no idea. I would not snob any supermarket by who shops there, but after going to lidl once, the customer service was so appalling that I never went back.

but with sainsburys the "true" cost is different because so much of their stuff is on the turn, with other supermarkets you can buy a weeks worth of veg etc and its still fine near the end of the week, with sainsbos you can only buy fresh if you're going to eat it in the next 48 hours! so more is wasted making it more expensive than its actual cost! So where waitrose is a bit more expensive than sainsburies, nothing is wasted because it lasts the week and gets used so IMO better value

Don't have a Morrisons so can't compaire to that, only to Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Asda, M&S and Waitrose

Stinkin. That's what I found, which is why I don't got to Asda. There are 2 big ones reasonably near me, and they are both the same. Just as you described

I shop at ASDA and Sainsbury's. I do the big weekly shop at ASDA, but have to go to the next town to do it. My small town only has a Sainsbury's so I do a top-up shop there. I can't say that I notice much difference in the shoppers, but then again I shop as quickly as possible and am in and out for a big shop in 20 minutes and a top-up shop in 5. I don't have time to notice anyone else.

Lidl is fine if you know the rules:

Use a trolley

Put everything the cashier has scanned straight into the trolley

Once you've paid, move away and pack your stuff into the bags you've brought.

some people still think its easy or even fun.. yeah I'm sure it used to be back when my DM or MIL had stints in them, but from recent experience (not sainsburys) its one of the most horrible environments to work in!

Our local Asda is next to a similar sized Waitrose, but compares quite badly.

The aisles in Asda are really cramped and there are always those big warehouse trolleys in the way for shelf filling which makes it even harder to get past. The ceilings are low which makes it look darker and more cramped than it probably is.

You have to have a pound for the trolley, which is always annoying scrabbling round for one.

The car park spaces are too small and there are always fights over p&c - I don't use them, but it is a bit disconcerting walking past people having a slanging match.

The fresh produce doesn't last as long, so like a PP has said, it is wasteful.

Well, it's the only shop where I've ever felt moved to have an argument with another shopper (she thought it was fine to let her toddler push a trolley into a disabled woman- 'he's just a kid'). She was such a common, thick, pointless, waste of space but I digress.

Asda is certainly not the cheapest supermarket out there.. think lidl, aldi and iceland (and formally netto which I believe Asda have turned into mini asda or something now).. It stocks the SAME products for less money, so why shop elsewhere?

However sainsburys is a much more pleasant shopping experience and the fresh stuff is a lot better quality/they have clearer labelling for vegetarians&vegans. Also they are a far more ethical supermarket.. bringing me onto my final point!

Asda are certainly not the most ethical of companies to say the least, hence the low prices. Waitrose, m&s and sainsburys year after year top the ethical shopping lists (sorry, don't know the actual name of that list) and asda trail down low along with aldi and lidl and closely followed by tesco. Morrisons is sort of mid way. So it does depend whether you care about being an ethical shopper or not.

Personally I have shopped at asda, I have shopped at sainsburys too. Never waitrose because our city isn't posh enough doesn't have one, never tesco because the nearest one is miles away and online don't accept my card.. and never been in a lidl or aldi because i'm a snob tsk tsk because I have no idea where they are. Usually morrisons because its a five minute walk from my house though.

My works at an Asda Living store and my step dad works at a supermarket. I don't see the problem tbh.

I have an Asda at the end of my road, therefore I shop there. Before, I lived opposite a Sainsburys, so I shopped there. I like the staff more in Asda. I know that they HAVE to talk to you, but I do love having a little chat with the checkout staff! I find it weird now when I go into another supermarket and the checkout staff don't talk to you. I do however, have a problem with it being owned by Walmart, but not enough of a problem to shop elsewhere when it's so close (would have to go to another town for another supermarket).
