To not understand the prejudice against asda on here?

Seen a couple of comments about asda on here, seems they are quite looked down on by some. I don't really get it. The food is no better and no worse than the other big names in this area (tesco and morrisons) the prices are low, and the staff are generally lovely and very helpful, at least the ones in my local are. So whats the problem with asda (ignoring the current Christmas add which whilst cringeworthy is not the worst I have seen)

ASDA is cheap for a lot of routine stuff.
But I find their and Morrisions own brand stuff less reliable than Tesco and Sainsburys. Not all the posher things I like are stocked.

This is despite the place being absolutely huge.

And yes it has the worst dressed customers with the worst behaved children and no staff.

I can't stand the snobbery either.I don't care what people say about Asda really, but it's the snobbery against the people who shop there that infuriates me.

The post about only people in categories C1 & C2 shopping there is one of the most twattish posts I've ever seen on MN. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being working class or lower middle class anyway, but it is wrong to be a stuck up twunt.

I shop in Lidl,Asda,Tesco,M&S,Sainsburys and Morrisons. They all have their good and bad points. I don't have a Waitrose near me,but I've shopped there before and thought it was ok,though no more special than M&S imho.

I shop in three different Asda branches, and can't say that I've ever noticed anyone swearing,at children or anyone.I haven't seen any fights either. The only store where I've had any trouble, and that was on two occasions,is Sainsburys, and I don't believe that says anything about Sainsburys shoppers either.

The quality of Asda stores will vary by branch, but I have never noticed a shortage of fresh food in the three stores I visit. There's a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, including tomatoes, with several varieties on offer. I also often find exotic fruit, and also vegetables that are new to me.
I also love the wide variety of bread and rolls that they sell. They have a better selection than my local Sainsburys.

MIL shops in Sainsburys and moans about the prices. Every weekend she moans how much it costs and how full the trolley was....

I suggested going to Asda and she looked at me like I had suggested eating dog poo.

oh mn has some of the most ridiculous snobbish opinions anywhere on the www. it's the only place you can actually feel thick for not having a degree from the right establishment and where you can think you're committing child abuse by sending them to the local comp

not to mention shopping at asda Grin

I think we've established that all the supermarkets vary from branch to branch. Our nearest Waitrose is actually very nice to shop in, but the clientele is very mixed.

I don't really see it as "snobbery" to not want my kids (or indeed myself) subjected to agression and swearing when out doing a shop. I think that's pretty reasonable. It happens at our Asda, the people there are horrible, my Sainsburys, Lidl & Aldi are all in the more deprived area of town but the people are not as vile, so its not snobbery! the disgusting people in Asda actually look more MC. It doesn't happen in Waitrose and it doesn't happen in Tesco so long as you avoid the nest of vipers in the car park (P&C area) and park somewhere else.

Have we discussed the deli counters at Budgens and Londis yet? I discovered them after finding a hair in my standard shopping delivery from Fortnum and Mason ...... have never looked back.

This thread needs to move upmarket.

If you have problems with a particular branch of any supermarket then it makes sense to avoid it.I'd do the same. That said, while I can't speak for anyone else,I'm certainly not referring to those situations when I talk about snobbery about Asda, but those who stereotype anyone who shops at Asda as a 'chav' or who implies that there's anything wrong with being working class.

I don't care where others shop so long as they don't make ridiculous assumptions like the above. Someone may have a bad branch, but that doesn't mean that every branch or every Asda shopper is like that, just as it'd be ridiculous for me to assume that all Sainsburys shoppers are rude because I've had a few bad experiences there.

It's not even about Asda really, but the constant bashing of anyone who dares to be anything other than middle class on Mumsnet that infuriates me. I really cannot understand the class obsession that a considerable number of Mumsnetters seem to have. It's terribly tedious.

I shop anywhere and everywhere.
I do find some of the own brand Asda poorer quality than own brands in the other supermarkets. But other than that, fine.
Oh,except that my nearest one has more than its share of boy and girl racers in the car park,so more care is needed there.

Some people on this thread seem to have a problem with basic logic.

Lots of people who walk their dogs in the park have Labradors.
You walk your dog in the park.
Does that mean your dog is a Labrador?
No.

Equally if someone says that the Asda near them is full of people who shout at their children while wearing a onesie, that doesn't mean they are saying that you do the same, or that your Asda has a similar demographic.

For me it is nothing to do with snobbery. If I want to buy cheap baked beans or rice to do in the microwave then I would buy it in Asda. If I am buying fresh food I go to Waitrose because they sell what I want to buy.

I don't use it because it's miles away and the only time we visited it was fairly horrible and the cafe was vile, tried 2 online shops and both times they fucked it up.

We usually use Tesco or Sainsbury's for online shopping, depending on who has the cheapest delivery, they are both similar prices I find.

We are kind of screwed round here, no Aldi's or Lidl's, we have Iceland, M&S, Waitrose and Tesco in the the nearest town.

Iceland doesn't have enough choice to do a full shop, Waitrose is ok although expensive, I haven't seen it more than mildly busy since it opened. I boycott M&S because I am fully sick of being followed around by the security guard as soon as I set foot in the door, yes I am not pearl wearing, twinset owning landed gentry, but I'm not a frigging skank looking to steal cheese, it's frankly insulting.

Hopefully a Morrison's is being built soon, can't wait.

Haven't seen the ad but it seems that a lot of people have been offended by it - seems to be based on a mum who does everything at Christmas time and the husband is useless???? Don't understand why people are so offended if that's the case - there ARE families like that around - I know alot of useless husbands and plenty of wives who to do everything because their husbands work so much and can't help out - maybe it's a little sexist/irritating but honestly - seems alot of fuss over nothing - someone complained it was going back to the 50's - well I don't consider myself a Fifties housewife with a mop in her hand who knows her "place" but I pretty much take care of everything in the run up to Christmas and then hubby does the meal on Christmas day with whatever I've bought and he hasn't a clue what "we've" bought the kids until they unwrap it Christmas day! (unless I get him to wrap them but then one year we had a disaster because he got the presents all mixed up!! - so he was useless at that but works as a claims manager dealing with multi-million claims from all over the world so I don't think he's completely useless and I don't think that ASDA are trying to say that all men are useless at everything!!) Don't shop there so much now as there isn;t one close by but I do like to pop in when I can to look at the clothes. I hate Sainsburies because it's so big and I can never find what I want so I shop at Morrisons which is tiny but I can be in and out in less than an hour. Would love to shop at Waitrose but there isn't one in my area and I've always thought it would be expensive but from reading some of these posts if you buy their own brand it's quite reasonable - hope one opens up near me soon!

I don't think shopping at Waitrose makes you a snob, but waxing lyrical about how great it is and how shitty Asda/Tesco's is does. I don't even see the big deal about Waitrose tbh, they do have a wider variety of some things, but the quality of the things I have had from there seems on a par with other supermarkets tbh, nothing special at all.

I am a supermarket tart and use them all except asda, because the nearest store is miles away and I have heard horror stories about their home delivery cock ups.

I don't give a flying fuck about the other shoppers.
