AIBU?

To not understand the prejudice against asda on here?

Seen a couple of comments about asda on here, seems they are quite looked down on by some. I don't really get it. The food is no better and no worse than the other big names in this area (tesco and morrisons) the prices are low, and the staff are generally lovely and very helpful, at least the ones in my local are. So whats the problem with asda (ignoring the current Christmas add which whilst cringeworthy is not the worst I have seen)

They're exotic in some places I think. Don't think they sell them round here.

Tbh it's not a muticultural area here at all. It's a shock if you see someone who isn't white british, as in you think 'f***g hell' because it's such a rare sight. Nothing like my home town. That's why I miss having easy access to asian food so much.

I live opposite Tesco, and across the road from that is a Sainsburys. At my nearest underground station is a Tesco express, three bus stops from Iceland, a fifteen minute walk from a large local run supermarket, and twelve minutes or so by bus, five or so by car, from M&S. Nearest Asda? About forty five minutes away by car Sad.

I love Asda as they do an amazing own brand vegetarian range (compared to other supermarkets).

I object to our local Asda because they seem to have decided you're a criminal before you walk through the door - CCTV cameras everywhere, tags on everything worth more than a few quid, store detectives following you round... (or maybe I just need to dress better. But the local Waitrose don't seem to mind the dragged-out-of-the-90s-through-a-hedge look that I work so well.)

FunBagFreddie have you tried Thai Taste green curry paste? Best around IMHO

working class people certainly do shop at asda in our town - and so does everyone else. its our only proper supermarket.

I've ordered online from Asda twice;
First time it was two hours late, had bizarre substitutions and the delivery driver asked me out. (I said no btw.)

Second it arrived on time, no date requests but the meat was disgusting and the fish smelled off and tasted horrific.

I just didn't bother after that. I like George though.

mintyy we tend to shop online but about when we need to drive to the supermarket Asda is about 4 miles away and about a ten minute drive. Waitrose is takes 20 minutes as it is 7 miles away. We do choose not to go to our closest supermarket because Asda does not sell the things that we want. Nothing to do with snobbery.

I had high hopes when they opened a store in my local town and I'm really disappointed! It's a big store but the choice of fresh food is terrible. I wanted some cold chicken for wraps. I could get a pack for a fiver or a Smart Price pack for 2 quid. BOTH were crappy, low welfare chicken from Thailand. Hardly any British meat of any description. No local produce. Total crap - I'd shop in Aldi before Asda anyday.

I hate them after it took 2 months to get a refund when they sent me someones order by mistake and had to email the ceo in the end. They don't know the meaning of customer service!

But shopped there for 8 years before that.

I will take you to my local Asda if you like. It will scare the shite out of you.
Think it must depend where you live. And we definitely have no Waitrose!

Oh and the other thing, in this brand new store, is that the checkouts are so narrow that you can't get around your trolley to unpack it!

Asdas own brand stuff is disgusting. I used to shop there but after the most disgusting pasta salad that has ever crossed my lips I moved to Sainsburys.

Truth is price differences are marginal but quality is far better....

We try not to shop at WalMart here Dh calls it the Evil empire. They have horrible employment practices and flaunt it.
I never shop the groceries department there, occasionally I will shop in the other departments. There nasty chemical laded junk, Pop and Crisps are very cheap, but the healthy foods are expensive. The place is so big it makes me feel a bit panicky. So we stick to other shops

I was told to "F* off" by a member of staff. I complained and my complint was ignored. I haven't shopped there since.

I won't shop at Asda because they are owned by Walmart - horrific business and employment practices.

Asda stole my money and didn't deliver my shopping a couple of years ago (delivery was cancelled due to snow, and it took them 10 days to give me my money back) As a result of that I never use their online shopping at all.

I do quite like the george clothes, and get the school trousers from there.

Food shopping comes from Sainsburys - and I like getting nectar points too! Smile
