To dislike 'yummy mummy' bags?

booomy · 12/09/2012 17:13

Several of my friends have changing bags that cost nearly £80 that is embroidered with 'yummy mummy'. www.johnlewis.com/231429259/Product.aspx

To my understanding, the use of 'yummy' in this context means attractive. I wouldn't want to carry round a statement that basically means your only aim in life is to look good whilst pushing a pram?

I quite like them. Grin

VegemiteSandwich · 12/09/2012 17:15

YABU - that is exactly the bag I'm hoping to get!!

booomy · 12/09/2012 17:16

why? what do you think people will think about you when they see it?

they remind me of pink velour tracksuit bottoms with "sexy" written on the bum! - i.e. never worn by anyone remotely sexy

just like those "yummy mummy" bags are never warn by anyone remotely deserving of the title

naff, tacky, childish...

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 12/09/2012 17:17

oh and very cheap looking!

HystericalParoxysm · 12/09/2012 17:20

YANBU. They are very tacky.

cocolepew · 12/09/2012 17:20

A teacher at DDs schol used to wear one of those yummy mummy t shirts, it makes me cringe.

I would be expecting someone to come up and say "no you're not" Grin

PurpleAndPoppyWearer · 12/09/2012 17:22

YANBU, I dislike them quite intensely.

Autumnalis · 12/09/2012 17:22

There's no excuse for one.

Doodlekitty · 12/09/2012 17:22

I love the bag, if only it did not have that on it. I hate slogans on stuff

MNhoneydragonHQ · 12/09/2012 17:25

I picked one up when dd was small as I liked it, saw the slogan and beat a hasty retreat - YANBU.

I did consider printing my own range of tacky pvc bags with MILF on in retaliation though Wink

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 12/09/2012 17:25

i dislike the term yummy mummy its well just stupid my friend could not understand why i rolled my eyes she thought it was a compliment (she did mean it that way)

InelegantlyWasted · 12/09/2012 17:25

YANBU to not like them. If everyone liked the same things the world would be very boring.
You would BU if you walked up to someone who was carrying one and said, "I don't like you bag and what I presume it stands for," because that would be very rude.

IvanaNap · 12/09/2012 17:26

I took one back, too bulky and very scratchy zip. Nothing to do with branding - but made much better use of store credit in bedding etc.

bagpuss · 12/09/2012 17:26

YANBU. No one I have ever seen with one looks the least bit yummy.

booomy · 12/09/2012 17:26

Hahahaha I'd buy a MILF one Grin

Happiestinwellybobs · 12/09/2012 17:28

YANBU - they're vile!! Plus when my DH has DD he would look a bit of a plonker!

I have just got rid of a 'I'm cute, my mum's cute, dad's lucky" top as I didn't want anyone looking at me and thinking "erm no you're not!"

ENormaSnob · 12/09/2012 17:31

Horses for courses innit?

They are unlikely to bring a fat munter range out even if it is closer to the truth.

MrsKeithRichards · 12/09/2012 17:33

I think they are ugly as sin!

toobreathless · 12/09/2012 17:33

YANBU, they are chavvy hideous.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 12/09/2012 17:33

I dislike them very strongly myself. Grin They have too much going on, quite aside from the yummy mummy thing. Toggles and charms and tags and contrasting lining and patches... And all that for a mere £80+.

Having said that, I've got one of those ubiquitous canvas Cath Kidston shoulder bags for nappies, spare clothes and other shite, which is basically my daily bag, and I'm pretty sure there's a strong body of MN opinion that says they're mumsy, twee and ick too. Grin

onyx72 · 12/09/2012 17:33

YANBU. They are naff and tacky.

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 12/09/2012 17:33

oh I dunno I think a scruffy mummy range could sell?
I still wouldn't buy it, think that once you're too old for uni halls of residence, you are too old for slogans on your teeshirts and bags!

booomy · 12/09/2012 17:36

Lacking I'm still at uni, although not in halls because of my DS, and I wouldn't wear a slogan bag!
