To dislike 'yummy mummy' bags?

Several of my friends have changing bags that cost nearly £80 that is embroidered with 'yummy mummy'. www.johnlewis.com/231429259/Product.aspx

To my understanding, the use of 'yummy' in this context means attractive. I wouldn't want to carry round a statement that basically means your only aim in life is to look good whilst pushing a pram?

Just read other posts are we not allowed cath kidson --the spotty red one matches my bugaboo so naicely--

Newtothisstuff · 12/09/2012 20:28

I'm not a first time mum either !!!

StellarforStar · 12/09/2012 20:40

I want a changing bag that's black, with skull and crossbone print in white and 'Hardcore Mummy' embroidered on it in red in a tea chest font.

I'm considering trying to make one myself!

My cousin has a 'Yummy Mummy' bag. They are a bit vomworthy; it seemed well made though.

Fozzleyplum · 12/09/2012 20:41

It's awful, as is anything with a "self congratulatory" slogan on, including t shirts and car number plates. I regularly see someone driving a car with a number plate proclaiming that she is 5exy. The fact that she is clearly not 5exy makes the whole thing marginally more ridiculous. Bah humbug!

arthurfowlersallotment · 12/09/2012 20:43

I've seen a few of those around town.

Thing is, if you are yummy, you don't need to advertise it on a wanky bag.

Do you all think people have these bags because they want to inform everyone else that they consider themselves a 'yummy mummy'? Really? Or do you think it might just be because they like the bag?

LilyCocoplatt · 12/09/2012 20:51

The bag itself doesn't look bad, but I agree that Yummy Mummy is a cringeworthy phrase. An ex colleague used to wear a necklace with the words Yummy Mummy on it, IMHO it was tacky and naff.

JudithOfThePiece · 12/09/2012 20:52

Why on earth does having 'yummy' written on your bag mean that your only aim in life is to look good pushing a buggy?!!

I suppose putting 'yummy' on your bag does invite the judgey types to think you're not that 'yummy' at all, but I fail to see why anyone would assume that is your only goal in life from that bag alone.

I'm not that keen on the bags, by the way, I just don't understand that particular leap of thought in the OP.

Bearcrumble · 12/09/2012 20:58

But lots of bags have loads of room/pockets and don't cost £80.

Is it even made of leather?

Bearcrumble · 12/09/2012 20:58

I mean, because if you're paying £80 for a bit of vinyl then you're just a fool.

pigletmania · 12/09/2012 21:02

I ke seeing them, thought that they were about £20 Shock

Gooeyhead · 12/09/2012 21:02

DH bought me mine just before our DD was born... Mine has "mama et bebe" written on the front... It was only the other day we noticed on the inside it says in very small writing "yummy mummy" (had the bag 6 months) DH thought this was hilarious as a have a real hatred for the term "yummy mummy"!!! It doesn't bother me though - I like the bag and as it was a gift I didn't know how much it cost

Ps DH carries his own bag filled with nappies etc when he takes DD out as he did not want to be seen with a girly bag!!! Smile

OhDearNigel · 12/09/2012 21:04

horrible

However, it is clear that there is a healthy demand for "MILF" bags on MN ! Maybe we could market our own "Mumsnet Bag" with a liner fabric printed with gregg's sausage rolls, fruit shoots and pombears. "AIBU ?" on one side and "MILF" on the other

PorkyandBess · 12/09/2012 21:04

Yuck! How naff - just revolting.

Presumably bought by the same people that sport 'little princess/dude on board' type signs in their cars.

VIX1980 · 12/09/2012 21:05

I bought one recently but at a car boot sale for £2 - i loved the butterfly print on them but after getting this 1 i cant believe people carry them round, i found it so bulky and didnt have enough things to fit in it so it went on ebay with a week and i went back to my own large handbag.

i thought the company was called pink lining though, so yummy mummy would be the logo?

Ratata · 12/09/2012 21:06

My one shall be embroidered with MILF. Do you think John Lewis sell them? Grin

Ratata · 12/09/2012 21:07

Damn it. Someone already made the MILF joke.

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 12/09/2012 21:07

I might be convinced if "meh!" bags come out Grin

regnamechange · 12/09/2012 21:07

I used to really want one of these when I had DD1 because of the pretty prints. I dislike them a lot now. Overpriced for the quality IMO.

fossil97 · 12/09/2012 21:09

Each to their own but.. ICK

What about the dad?

I think the OP is over analysing the slogan though. It's just a cheap bit of decoration. How does the cupcake come into it?

BurnThisDiscoDown · 12/09/2012 21:15

I really want a Bitchy Fucker bag now.

roundtable · 12/09/2012 21:16

I would like a scummy mummy bag, with space for a bottle of wine Grin

It is a bit twee and not my cup of tea but each to their own, I can't see the harm really.

KitCat26 · 12/09/2012 21:28

Ah I absolutely loved mine Grin

T'was green and beige stripes with butterflies or daffs or something. No yummy mummy slogan on the outside of it though (don't like or live up to the phrase). It was a leaving present from work.

I used it for both DDs for the first 10mths, it was bulky but slung over the buggy handles nicely. DH only took DD1 out as a baby once on his tod and took a carrier bag. I swapped to a titchy bag as soon as they didn't require two or more bottles.

arthurfowlersallotment · 12/09/2012 21:49

Can I get a TerribleCuntMum nappy bag?
