To dislike 'yummy mummy' bags?

Several of my friends have changing bags that cost nearly £80 that is embroidered with 'yummy mummy'. www.johnlewis.com/231429259/Product.aspx

To my understanding, the use of 'yummy' in this context means attractive. I wouldn't want to carry round a statement that basically means your only aim in life is to look good whilst pushing a pram?

Tacktastic :)

apostropheuse · 12/09/2012 23:27

Tackiness personified.

I love mine, I'm not a first time mum or a chav or a munter. But so what if I was? I bet my baby will think I'm yummy Grin

My DH has his own black nappy bag.

mum4041 · 13/09/2012 00:07

Awful. The bag is quite discreet though - not as bad the car sunshades.

lubeybooby · 13/09/2012 00:27

Euuuurgh. God they are just so awful.

I used a normal bag too.

perfectstorm · 13/09/2012 00:30

I thought yummy mummy was an insult? Confused

I'd need one that said slummy mummy, personally. Or scummy mummy, perhaps.

AmIthatbad · 13/09/2012 00:30

halfspam I like your take on this Grin

Imagine your child thinking you're "yummy". OMG how awful

WTF do normal, rational humans use these words? Are their vocabularies so stunted? Do people really respond to statements by saying '' yum" Sad, inarticulate fuckwits

BrandyAlexander · 13/09/2012 08:33

I had one of these for dc1. Great bag and I have given it as a present to my friends. They seem to use it. It is just a bag, a good quality nice bag. I can assure OP that there is more to my life than pushing pram around Grin. Incidentally, everyone where I live appears to have these Yummy Mummy bags (and you see the blokes carrying them when they have the baby), so for dc2 I changed it to the Mia Il tutto bag, which is beautiful. www.iltutto.com.au/persistent/catalogue_images/products/mia_red.jpg

Loathe them.
They remind me of those joggers that have the word gold digga over the bum.
Ewww.
Naff and common.

alienreflux · 13/09/2012 08:41

i hate them, my friend has one though, and she is totally gorgeous, i thought this would make the bag less chavtastic, but no, she just looks up herself instead of a hopeful munter.and £80??!!! wtaf?!
im with halfspam and the asda/biro combi.

Badvoc · 13/09/2012 08:41

£80 for a bag to carry nappies and wipes in?
(shakes head in wonder....)

alienreflux · 13/09/2012 08:48

how can people think £70-£80 quid for a nappy bag (i will use it every day while they are in nappies, so good value i think)??!!! is remotely reasonable?? i know it's all relative to how much cash you have, but jesus H. that seems such an extraordinary over spend, and can't help thinking it's more of the 'look at my designer baby shit' that always gets on my tits. (bit miserable this morning!!)

Well, I think it is nice - but it doesn't pass the male-friendly test! I agree with serotonin, the free Boots one did me fine...

DigestivesWithPhiladelphia · 13/09/2012 09:55

'Yummy Mummy' AND a cupcake..[making an 'about to vomit' face]

Tangointhenight · 13/09/2012 10:15

Each to their own, if you don't like them then don't buy one, simple as that.

It's not like the bag say something offensive is it? I have two of them and don't give a flying fuck what anyone thinks, maybe they should make one that says just that.... Fuck off :o

I'd definitely buy one of those!

arthurfowlersallotment · 13/09/2012 11:35

This thread makes me want a fancy nappy bag to replace my free boots one. Please talk some sense into me.

iscream · 13/09/2012 11:50

Yanbu.

BrandyAlexander · 13/09/2012 11:59

arthurfowler get a fancy one! You know you want to Grin.

I really think this is one of those things where it's each to their own. I like handbags. Cheap ones, expensive ones, all sorts. I have just had a major cull of them and reckon I still own about 50. So to me, I wanted to have a nice nappy bag because I was going to be using it a lot. The free Boots one is just as practical but it is just not as pretty. As I say, a matter of personal taste.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 13/09/2012 12:03

The Boots one is only any good if you have a bf baby who needs one nappy change a day. It didn't get anywhere near carrying the nappies/wipes/bags/cream/change of clothes/bottles/cartons/wallet/phone/keys/comb etc that I needed to put in it. Was useless.

Kayano · 13/09/2012 12:05

I think thy are over rated. But then my change bag is a £15 pros ports messenger bag from amazon with a funky pattern lol

Tw1nkle · 13/09/2012 12:10

£80?!?!!?
There must be some very well off people able to buy these!!!

arthurfowlersallotment · 13/09/2012 12:11

Hmmmm, I suppose when DD is on solids I WILL need more space....
