To dislike 'yummy mummy' bags?

Several of my friends have changing bags that cost nearly £80 that is embroidered with 'yummy mummy'. www.johnlewis.com/231429259/Product.aspx

To my understanding, the use of 'yummy' in this context means attractive. I wouldn't want to carry round a statement that basically means your only aim in life is to look good whilst pushing a pram?

And why is there a flipping cake on it?! What's that got to do with anything? Or is that the only picture they think we can associate with 'yummy'....

scottishmummy · 13/09/2012 21:00

so don't buy one then.be a sensible frump with roomy rucksack
no yumminess
and hell no lookin good pushin a pram

Aboutlastnight · 13/09/2012 21:06

Or buy a lovely bag, shove everything you need into it, and off you go! Voila!

TudorJess · 13/09/2012 23:38

YANBU

differentnameforthis · 14/09/2012 01:10

They don't look remotely attractive to me. The embroidery looks like it was done by a child, especially the writing!

And don't get me started on MILF! Urgh!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/09/2012 11:31

Hear hear scottishmummy. Let the miserable fuckers carry their nappies round in a bin bag.

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 14/09/2012 11:39

they ARE the sensible frump bag of choice though, they are not "yummy", they look like something cheap and childish from claires

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 14/09/2012 11:41

Those of us not sporting yummy mummy bags have a whole world of other bags to choose from y'know

Aboutlastnight · 14/09/2012 12:51

Binbag - or nice mulberry bays water.

I had a rather nice orla likely which I used for the girls and now occasionally take to work

CleoSmackYa · 14/09/2012 12:54

They're okay. £80 though? Fuck right off!

Mylittlepuds · 14/09/2012 16:22

Ooh forgot about Orla Keily. You've inspired me for my next nappy change bag.

SamuelWestsMistress · 14/09/2012 16:36

May as well have one that says "I LOVES COCK I DOES"

horrid.

But each to their own!

porcamiseria · 14/09/2012 16:38

just to say

I FUCKING HATE MUMMY BAGS

hate seeing people with their (usually) expensive pram and some special bag flung over

why do you need a special bag? its nappies and maybe some milk FFS

boak

PrincessScrumpy · 14/09/2012 16:43

I love mine and dh gave it to me so I guess it's him saying I'm a yummy mummy rather than me saying it. It's a good size and I like the dragon flies and toadstools on it. But then I also don't really care what other people think of my bag as long as it does the job and I like it..... my yumminess is rather hidden behind layers of twin snot at the moment!

PrincessScrumpy · 14/09/2012 16:45

Why do you need a special bag?... err what an odd question. I needed a bag big enough for baby stuff and so got one I liked. There are lots of things I don't need like the diamond ring dh gave me, I don't intend to give it back because I don't need it Confused

PrincessScrumpy · 14/09/2012 16:46

forgot to say - mine was not £80, dh got it much cheaper online

FunnysInLaJardin · 14/09/2012 16:51

yuck, tis very twee. The whole yummy mummy thing is sooo outdated too. Maybe just maybe in 1992 when I first heard it, it might have been funny and or clever. But now? Just twee and self congratulatory.

And you don't need a special bag. Your normal handbag is big enough for a couple of nappies and a bottle of milk usually

Jins · 14/09/2012 17:16

I prefer the Cath Kidston to the yummy mummy bag and I NEVER thought I'd her myself say that Shock

minipie · 14/09/2012 17:28

YANBU. The ones embroidered with "yummy mummy" (or cupcakes for that matter) are naff-o-rama.

However I don't agree that changing bags in general are pointless. It's useful to have a bag with separate sections that are the right size for the various baby bits, and a waterproof lining, and a long strap to hang on the buggy. If I could find a non-changing bag that did all these things I would happily buy it but perhaps unsurprisingly the ones designed as changing bags are the only ones I can find with all these features.

BrandyAlexander · 14/09/2012 18:01

With a 1 and 3 year old, my changing bag carries nappies, change of clothes for dc2, spare knickers for dc1, wipes, nappy cream, crayons, colouring pads, bottles, teething sachets, calpol sachets, nappy bags, purse, mobile phone, brush and lipstick. None of my day to day bags would carry that (not even my Bayswater), so could either carry it all in a Tescos carrier bag or bin bag or shock, horror use a changing bag. I prefer to use my very pretty changing bag. Also, as to cost, well it's the bag that I use more than any other - why on earth wouldn't I get a nice one? Confused

BabylonPI · 14/09/2012 18:06

Well I love them!! I'm currently doing a ROARING trade on eBay with them - enabling me to be a SAHM with my dcs so I adore them for that reason alone Grin

Oh and mine actually says mama et bebe across the pockets - not yummy mummy!

scottishmummy · 14/09/2012 21:15

these threads always elicit the I use a free plastic bag or chip wrapper
the I spent 15p on bag and tuppence ha'penny on pram crew
as if if it's competition see who's most frugal and scummy mummy

madmomma · 14/09/2012 21:55

I'd sooner carry nappies in the hollowed, decaying abdominal cavity of a ritually sacrificed goat than in a yummy mummy bag.

scottishmummy · 14/09/2012 21:59

haha,yes they're on sale for tupennce ha'penny
a wonky shop trolley no need for posh prams either
and coarse hand towel as baby wipe.no point spending money
