To dislike 'yummy mummy' bags?

Several of my friends have changing bags that cost nearly £80 that is embroidered with 'yummy mummy'. www.johnlewis.com/231429259/Product.aspx

To my understanding, the use of 'yummy' in this context means attractive. I wouldn't want to carry round a statement that basically means your only aim in life is to look good whilst pushing a pram?

Can we have one that says "PFB" in great big letters across the front (obviously for first time mothers only)

Boysrstupid · 13/09/2012 12:47

I've got one. I like it. I don't consider myself to be a 'Yummy Mummy' but the bag suits & I couldn't give a shiney shite what anybody else thinks about me or it.

LiquidCosh · 13/09/2012 14:07

WOW wtf? you'd think it had Fucking Cunt or some other such slogan wrote on it with the reaction the words yummy mummy get on here. Judgey much??! I have one and I dont think im gorgeous I just loved the design and fancied treating myself to something nice after nine long pregnancy months.

Fair enough if you don't like it but the world would be pretty boring if we all liked the same things!

PretzelTime · 13/09/2012 14:16

But your average mumsnetter would prefer a cunt bag over a yummy bag, Liquid.

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 14:18

They make me cringe

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 14:18

I want a cunt bag

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 13/09/2012 14:21

TheLazyGirlBlog · 13/09/2012 14:34

I think each to their own.

But I would actually have another baby if it meant I could have a bag with TerribleCuntMummy and the Fuck the fuck off emergency situation card inside it. And I'm not that keen on the two I already had.....

£80! My vintage thing (still use it now) came from a house clearance sale and cost 50p. As did my other bag I used for the DCs as babies, a pink Radley with lots of room. Had dual purpose with both that should I fancy five minutes peace I could ditch the brat crap and still carry the same bag without faffing for 20 minutes.

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 16:48

It's all to do with status symbols. There seem to be a whole load of 'mummy' ones at the mo. I have fallen into the trap though as did no research at all into prams and bought a Bugaboo for the simple fact it's deemed a bit of a status symbol. Just being honest. Well actually the in laws bought it for us as we are very lucky and we would have had to put it on a credit card.

People who say they've bought a status symbol pram or whatever else as they've 'researched' it annoy the shit out of me. I'm sure there are nappy bags and prams etc a lot cheaper but still as functional (is that a word). So there, off topic slightly but I fancied a rant.

perfectstorm · 13/09/2012 16:52

Mylittlepuds, I bought a Stokke Xplory after researching it. I had severe SPD and Stokke make products for people with back problems. A normal buggy would have been almost impossible for me to push that first few months. (I had to get a change table from them too, as bending or twisting hurt - though I got it from Ebay so it was cheap). We aren't into status symbols, in fact we didn't even have a car, and most of DS's toys/clothes are from Ebay. There are, sometimes, legit reasons for buying things that are expensive. Rear-facing car seats are another item that can cost more, but are better.

These bags are hideous, though.

perfectstorm · 13/09/2012 16:53

When I clicked, I had a warning that the cunt bag site contained malware from "myvag.net".

I'm really not joking.

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 17:06

Perfect storm - I hear what you're saying but needing a tall pram must be a pretty rare reason. And I'm sure there are other tall prams on the market - in fact ours extends up. Also did you road test others before buying the Stokke? Or just get the Stokke and think 'yes this works for us'.

I'm sure there'll be others by to slag me off but I simply will not accept it that the majority of those who buy expensive baby stuff don't do it as a status symbol. I'm a pretty average girl and we did. Why else do these hideous Yummy Mummy bags exist?

holyfishnets · 13/09/2012 17:07

I'm waiting for a slummy mummy bag to come out!

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 17:20

Is functional a word?! My God what's wrong with my brain?

Jins · 13/09/2012 17:22

The bag in the op is a nice shape....

Nothing else appeals

alienreflux · 13/09/2012 17:23

you're brain is dysfunctional littlepuds!

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 17:36

It most definitely is. I blame the pregnancy hormones.

JessieMcJessie · 13/09/2012 18:17

I hate the word "yummy" full stop. Just had my friend visiting, she has a 4 and a 2 year old, was on a much-needed weekend away from them. We had some lovely meals but I swear to God if she had used the word yummy one more time I'd not have been responsible for my actions. Not at all becoming in a 40 year-old with no kids in tow.

perfectstorm · 13/09/2012 18:29

Littlepuds they've copied the Xplory to bring the new ranges out - now, I'd go for one of the cheaper copycats if they exist (can't say I know much about prams any more!), but when DS arrived there just weren't any. It was a totally original design. And it wasn't only the height, it was the way the handlebar worked as a walking frame. (Severe SPD is a real glimpse into old age...)

Sorry to be defensive about it. I was actually quite embarrassed about those assumptions at the time, fantastic pram as it is, because of the designer label element. I am not a big fan of people being what they own, if that makes sense. But in this instance it was a godsend.

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 18:37

Yeah yeah ;)

No I believe you really. I really didn't have a reason other than it looked good! Pathetic really. But I think there is a difference between style and just plain naff 'designer' showiness like the God damn awful Yummy Mummy bags. Not tasteful. Just shite.

LadyFlumpalot · 13/09/2012 18:41

I don't like them because they are out of context. The correct term is YUMMI mummy an it stands for Young Upwardly Mobile Multiple Income mummy.

Pedantic

AmIthatbad · 13/09/2012 18:56

JessieMcJessie you are my spiritual twin.

....and are any of us in the least bit impressed by "status symbols"? Really?

BTW I loved HalfSpam's post about Asda bag. Brilliant

Half the mums I know have one of these. So not only are they hideous, they're unoriginal too.

Mylittlepuds · 13/09/2012 19:13

Not when they come in the form of a Yummy Mummy change bag. Some status symbols look good and are tasteful - you can appreciate the niceness of them. These bags are just tasteless IMO. They'd be nice without the cringey slogan.
