To dislike 'yummy mummy' bags?

Several of my friends have changing bags that cost nearly £80 that is embroidered with 'yummy mummy'. www.johnlewis.com/231429259/Product.aspx

To my understanding, the use of 'yummy' in this context means attractive. I wouldn't want to carry round a statement that basically means your only aim in life is to look good whilst pushing a pram?

Actually I'd prefer the bag in that scenario. At least the nappies would not be soaked with goat blood.
And that's the only postive thing about that bag.

perfectstorm · 14/09/2012 22:12

I didn't buy a change bag when I had DS because the MN loudest shouters insisted you didn't need to.

I bought one when he was a month old, because I decided they were totally wrong. Grin

Still think those yummy mummy ones are disgusting, though. If Imelda Staunton in that Harry Potter film - the character with the kitten plates - had been created as a mother instead, that's the bag she'd have had!

scottishmummy · 14/09/2012 22:14

I don't actually like the cupcake bag
but had few mum bags
Orla, lin& Leo, and oioi

Oh, and those asking why you need a separate change bag - call me neurotic, but I liked to keep bottles upright and not leaking; wipes where I could quickly find them, and nappies in the shape they exited the pack. I also liked being able to wipe off the spillages, and none of my handbags had PVC interiors. Add in bags of rice cakes, a muslin, a toy or two and a change of clothing and a compartmentalised bag was a godsend.

Normal bags just didn't work at all for me. Everything got in a scrunched up mess. And I am Confused at the notion I'd want to carry that around when no change bag (in my price range, anyway) looked anything like as good as a normal bag.

scottishmummy · 14/09/2012 22:38

indeed good changing bag is well organized
and considerably cheaper than my regular bags
which I don't want squished with baby creme and detritus

KittyFane1 · 14/09/2012 22:40

That bag is awful.

samandi · 14/09/2012 22:41

Ew, YANBU. But each to their own.

cerealqueen · 14/09/2012 22:48

It is vile and i can't see how it practical it would be. I'm definitely on the side of a changing bag -mine is from mothercare and often in the washing machine as it always seemed to have food squashed into every crevice on the inside and Sudocrem smears on the outside. I have a very nice handbag which is for my stuff which would never be put in the washing machine!

Aboutlastnight · 14/09/2012 22:57

Depends of you are a slut like me. By DD3 I didn't bother with changing bags, just shoved everything under the buggy. And I travelled light: two nappies, wipes, spare vest and nappy sacks. And that was it.

perfectstorm · 14/09/2012 23:01

Not a reflux baby, then... ;)

Seriously, I needed at least 2 muslins plus 2 complete changes just to leave the house. And DS was born in early winter, helpfully!

perfectstorm · 14/09/2012 23:02

God, what with this and the tongue tie thread I am remembering why I HATED the baby stage! Thank God toddlers are so fantastic. That's all I can say!

RosemaryHoyt · 15/09/2012 17:05

Our last attempt at potty training meant a nappy bag wasn't big enough. Needed three extra carrier bags containing 3 changes of dry clothes, 3 wet sets, or worse, dirty, plus bag with potty. Back in nappies now. Still take a change of clothes. The day you don't is the day you get beaten by a loose poop.

fartattack · 15/09/2012 17:07

That bag makes me want to vomit....

Mylittlepuds · 15/09/2012 18:40

Taste is something you can't buy. This bag proves the point nicely.

MeconiumHappens · 15/09/2012 21:14

I have a pink lining bag but not a yummy mummy one (the phrase makes me cringe so chose one wth different text). I love it, good quality, practical, spacious. Only mn could put a changing bag on its vitriol hit list alongside fruit shoots and greggs!

scottishmummy · 15/09/2012 21:59

I won't hear a word against greggs
all that saturated fat and pastry
a beefy bake is panacea for the masses

Mylittlepuds · 15/09/2012 22:21

I think it's the text that totally spoils it Meconium. It's tacky in the extreme.

scottishmummy · 15/09/2012 22:23

its the equivalent of juicy stamped on yer bahookie
too descriptive
and hardly words that imbue confidence

Mylittlepuds · 15/09/2012 22:32

Scottishmummy it's rare that we agree, but I agree. We have official common ground.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/09/2012 00:15

Yep, 'cos this is so much better.

Zzzzzzzz

SneakyNuts · 17/09/2012 11:28

YABU, I love mine Grin
