To think River Song is too old for MS's Doctor?

So this doctor is her doctor. Does anyone else think the actress and the character are too old for him? It's not just the physical age, he's just very young in general. River is mid 40s and so cool and sophisticated and the doctor is a bit of a twenty something goofball.

Or is it just me?

Is he her doctor? How do you know?

cheesesarnie · 26/04/2011 22:33

i have no idea what you are talking about

Himalaya · 26/04/2011 22:34

Isn't he about 800 though??

SeenButNotHeard · 26/04/2011 22:34

What cheesesarnie said

Goblinchild · 26/04/2011 22:34

We are allowed our toyboys. He needs a steadying influence, that young man.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 26/04/2011 22:34

that's true Himalya

EightiesChick · 26/04/2011 22:35

Nope, not too old. Matt Smith's doctor manages to look aged somehow. Plus why shouldn't she be older?

Sacharissa · 26/04/2011 22:35

Wasn't he still DT when they first met? Well when we saw them meet. Oh ykwim. So maybe he is also another less young seeming doctor at some point who is a better fit?

edam · 26/04/2011 22:36

I know what you mean. They dynamic between Rivera and David Tennant was far more convincing. Everyone says Matt Smith is a very Troughton-esque Doctor but he's still far too young. Shame as Alex Kingston is great.

FriedEggyAndSlippery · 26/04/2011 22:36

I don't like her much. Grr. He is Amy's and Rory's doctor, everyone else can sod off

edam · 26/04/2011 22:36

Or River, even, no idea where the extra 'a' came from!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/04/2011 22:36

She is traveling through time one way and he the other. Anyway, DH who is fairly young ish says he'd "Give her one any day!"

LadyCornyOfSilk · 26/04/2011 22:36

I love her.

EricNorthmansMistress · 26/04/2011 22:36

He's 900-1100 in last week's episode. She says he's her doctor, she can't bear the day when she looks into the eyes of herdoctor and he doesn't recognise her. I know he's really old in actual years but this version of the doctor just seems too young for her! No?

I agree. Frankly if I am too old for him (and I am [sigh] no more fantasies of the Doctor whisking me off in his blue box. Damn you, David Tennant) then she is MUCH too old.

AitchTwoOh · 26/04/2011 22:37

i think that what is most remarkable about Matt Smith's doctor is his ability to inhabit his very young body in a very old way.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 26/04/2011 22:37

He's not her doctor surely? Confused

Sacharissa · 26/04/2011 22:38

I thought she just meant "her" as in her man/love of her life. Not that MS in particular is her specific doctor.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 26/04/2011 22:38

when she met DT she said that she'd never seen him look so young or something

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 26/04/2011 22:38

One thing that I wondered about the episode just shown.

They made him 200 years older, right? but still him. Which means that he doesn't regenerate for at least another 200 years, right?

so what are they going to do for the next Doctor?

Fast forward over 200 years?

Or perhaps they'll write to me and politely suggest that I get a life.

EricNorthmansMistress · 26/04/2011 22:39

I love River too, and she's very gorgeous. Sacharissa, they are travelling in opposite directions as it were, every time she meets him it's further back in his time, so when she met him as DT he hadn't met her before. Or something. Anyway DT def wasn't her doctor.

It's not that the age gap is wrong, more that I don't see Rive falling for this particular doctor!

I think he's falling for her though

takethisonehereforastart · 26/04/2011 22:40

YANBU.

I am a massive Doctor Who fan but the "hello sweetie" business is just a bit too cringy and the comparing diaries is annoying.

Doctor Matt is just too young in age and maturity, 900 years old or not. Doctor David suited her better.

She was talking about him started to forget her but he has hardly seemed to know her at all, either as Matt or David.

He surely ought to know what she's done, all this 'spoilers' nonsense is just annoying.

I like MS as the Doctor but his age/looks/take on the Doctor's character hasn't helped with this storyline at all.

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 26/04/2011 22:41

I love, love, love River Song.

Pond can go away. Screech and growl elsewhere woman. Leave the plastic centurion though. He's lovely.
