To think River Song is too old for MS's Doctor?

So this doctor is her doctor. Does anyone else think the actress and the character are too old for him? It's not just the physical age, he's just very young in general. River is mid 40s and so cool and sophisticated and the doctor is a bit of a twenty something goofball.

Or is it just me?

True. Am I the only saddo who paused the clip of the astronaut lifting his visor?

LadyCornyOfSilk · 26/04/2011 23:13

it could be the doctor in the spacesuit.

EricNorthmansMistress · 26/04/2011 23:14

I do like the Amy as River's mother possibility...

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 26/04/2011 23:14

Yes, I always thought she killed the doctor.

I don't see that she is amy's daughter though. I would have expected more of a, I dunno, something, Grin coming off her towards amy, but she acts quite distant - compared to how you'd expect if she was her daughter!

Do you remember Jenny?

At first, I wondered if River Song could be Jenny. But if their relationship is intimate, then no.

edam · 26/04/2011 23:14

The priest in the most recent weeping angels story said River was in prison for killing a good man who was a hero to many people. Sounds like the Doctor. But maybe that's what we are supposed to think...

PigWhisperer · 26/04/2011 23:14

I am not sure Amy is really pregnant as River is having the same symptoms - could it be a trick by the Silence?

LadyCornyOfSilk · 26/04/2011 23:15

what was that thing that happened in the last episode of the series where the doctor was killed by the dalek but didn't die Confused and crossed his timeline

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 26/04/2011 23:15

ah, but no - just realised - if she was then she'd have known the DT doctor straight away, not gone on about him not being 'her' doctor.

ignore me, I'm talking shit again

PigWhisperer · 26/04/2011 23:19

Am sure we will see Jenny again though Hecate.

I've been thinking about this all a bit too much as well. When River said that the day would come when the Doctor wouldn't recognise her, we've already seen that haven't we? Back in the library (with the shadow thingies) DT didn't know who she was and she had to prove they'd met by whispering something to him. And in that episode she did die so she's right about that bit too. And, she had a sonic screwdriver that she said he'd given her (but of course according to him he hadn't yet) and wasn't it green like the one MS has now? Or am I imagining it?

And fwiw I took "My doctor" to mean the Doctor whatever body he had, not this one in particular.

I think River and MS are great together, I love all the teasing. That scene in the oval office was priceless.

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/04/2011 23:23

I don't think River can be the Doctor - that would have involved him crossing his own timeline repeatedly. Don't see how she could be Amy's daughter - that wouldn't mean she could know the doctor's real name, which she told him to make him trust her in the Library.

I'd love Colin Salmon to be the doctor, but he's already been Doctor Moon. Idris Elba (swoon - still remember him from Ultraviolet) is too authoritative, the doctor needs a playfullness. Richard E Grant, anyone? Or I'd second Damian Lewis, his character in Life showed he could do oddball.

ReindeerBollocks · 26/04/2011 23:24

That's what I thought too Pixel - he's her Dr regardless of who is playing the character. Alex K did say in a recent interview that the rumoured death can't be hers, as we've already seen her death scene (with DT).

ReindeerBollocks · 26/04/2011 23:26

Where - Idris plays a wonderful character in 'the big C' he's much lighter and fun, than some of his better known British roles where he is too serious.

Plus, imagine him in a suit - stunning. I won't be swayed into thinking otherwise Grin

EgguStudent · 26/04/2011 23:27

Oh I hope she's not Amy's daughter, else they haven't built that up well at all.

I thought it was he in the space suit straight away.

Oh, and I never liked Jenny. She just wasn't right.

LilyBolero · 26/04/2011 23:31

Matt Smith is amazing I think - as aitch said, he really manages to give an impression of age, within a young body. And I think he is also very obviously 'alien', where David Tennant was more human.

yy, we have seen the day River is dreading in Silence in the LIbrary. As we travel along the Dr's timeline, the Dr gets to know River better, but she is getting ever younger, as she is going in the opposite direction.

I think there is mileage in the theory of River being Amy's baby, although I'm not convinced Amy is pregnant atm. Could be some psychic trick of the Silence?

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/04/2011 23:32

Idris in a suit

Pixel · 26/04/2011 23:32

If she really is pregnant (which I doubt) I hope she hasn't told the Doctor before Rory, that won't go down too well. Grin

PigWhisperer · 26/04/2011 23:33

Im with you Lily - River also has nausea doesnt she?

pizzadelivery · 26/04/2011 23:34

I really dislike River with her 'sweeties' and 'spoilers' (like nails down a blackboard) grrrr! Angry

MS is too young for her, really like him Amy though, not fussed about Rory. Smile

ReindeerBollocks · 26/04/2011 23:34

Hang on - when River goes to see the doctor (Dr David T) and she dies saving him - she's in a space suit is she not?

Pixel · 26/04/2011 23:36

Just had to look up Idris as never heard of him. Can't see him as the Doctor, he has funny eyes!

Personally I think Rowan Atkinson did a pretty good job in The Curse of Fatal Death and should get a proper go at some point. Smile

Pixel · 26/04/2011 23:38

Reindeer Clever! Hadn't thought of that.

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/04/2011 23:40

Reindeer - but did she really die? She was saved to the computer - could someone have made a 'hard copy' of her from there?

God I am such a Who geek ...

ratspeaker · 26/04/2011 23:44

Could River be Dr Who's mum?

ratspeaker · 26/04/2011 23:45

I mean he obviously got his unconventional for a Timeord attitude from somewhere
