To think River Song is too old for MS's Doctor?

So this doctor is her doctor. Does anyone else think the actress and the character are too old for him? It's not just the physical age, he's just very young in general. River is mid 40s and so cool and sophisticated and the doctor is a bit of a twenty something goofball.

Or is it just me?

Just caught up.
Pixel said what i was goign to say that the Doctor was in the suit and had to kill the other himself as otherwise time would go kaboom as there couldn't be two of him at the same time
or summat

TotemPole · 27/04/2011 10:53

She could be Donna's daughter.

I'm most put out. I don't get to pause bits and rewind as DH now insists on watching it with all because of Amy. I can just about bear her but this just pushes me over the edge

TotemPole · 27/04/2011 10:59

Most likely it's either River or the Doctor in the space suit.

The Doctor knew he was going to be killed.

Hasn't the most hinted idea been that River is the Doctor's wife or is that all smoke and mirrors to put us off the scent?

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 11:08

yes he makes a gesture

LilyBolero · 27/04/2011 11:10

yy to astronaut being either River or the Doctor.

bronze · 27/04/2011 11:10

Reality- slow internet. I see what you mean. On the long shot he gestures.

the doctor and the astronaut at th esame height. How tall is River?

Actually is it any old actor in the spacesuit for this bit so they don't have to do lot sof faffing with either river or the Doctor possible being on screen twice if it's either of them

dawntigga · 27/04/2011 11:14

YABU, he's 900 years old. Unless he meets up with a female Time Lord he's stuffed as most people are 2 young for him. It's nice that there's a grown up to balance him tbh.

I didn't realise Steven Moffat had ruled out River as being Dr Who's mum
Mind you was there not speculation that his mum was the woman played by Claire Bloom in the last DT episode

It had to be either the Doc or River in the space suit
I was kind of reminded of Babylon 5 where Zathras saw The One in a space suit

TotemPole · 27/04/2011 11:23

If it was River in the space suit and she was sent to prison for that.

Wouldn't that mean that the current River in that scene would know it was herself as she already knows she's been to prison, so she would know that she killed the Doctor?

FreudianSlipOnACrown · 27/04/2011 11:28

I'd assumed the astronaut was river.

DH suggested the child in the space suit at the end was actually Amy's daughter (as she just announced she is pregnant) but I'm not convinced by that!

AitchTwoOh · 27/04/2011 11:28

RTD said in the diaries that he wanted claire bloom to be the mum, and seeing as he wrote the script, he's probably right.

GrimmaTheNome · 27/04/2011 11:32

If it was River was the astronaut (and knew it, because it was her past) would she have tried shooting herself? That would really have fucked the timelines.

LilyBolero · 27/04/2011 11:32

I'm not totally convinced by Amy's pregnancy - especially because River felt sick too, and when I saw them filming an episode, to be shown in the autumn block of episodes, she is demonstrably NOT pregnant!

GrimmaTheNome · 27/04/2011 11:36

Gosh, I hadn't realised that was Claire Bloom - she's amazing for 80. Ideal choice for the Dr's mum, she must have some Gallifreyan genes!

Tee2072 · 27/04/2011 12:04

Yeah, but Lily, you're assuming that the ones filmed in the Autumn are right after the ones being shown now. Could be in the future. Or the past. Time travel, remember? Grin

I think the astronaut is River, I think River knows it's River. And I think River is Amy and Rory's daughter.

thell · 27/04/2011 12:21

I'm sure SM has said in an interview that River isn't going to turn out to be the Doctor's wife.

I'm getting a bit too excited about this series - I love it when things are all tied together, but hoping SM doesn't get over-excited himself and overdo it.

bronze · 27/04/2011 12:31

Ok so if River song shot him presumably she knows she shot him. In which case it needed to happen, also why the doctor went to be shot willingly. So presumably something would need to happen caused by someone elses freewill (Amy?) which is why RS isnt saying that it was her.
And the guy with the gas (name forgotton, 'im from the whitehouse) knew something was going to happen too because the Doctor had arranged it.

so why did DW need to be shot? Must be something to do with timeywimey screws ups surely?

QueenAbcinthiaXVI · 27/04/2011 12:35

I thought River met the Doctor originally when she was younger. So it's very possible MS is her Doctor and he's going to meet a younger River.

chrisonabike · 27/04/2011 12:37

erm.. is Doctor Who a GP, then? I've never watched it.

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/04/2011 12:41

Chris, yes, the Doctor originally travelled with his granddaughter Susan, way back in 1963. And DT told Donna that he had been a father in 'The Doctor's Daughter'.

LilyBolero · 27/04/2011 12:43

Tee, it was a stand-alone episode, and as such was along the Doctor and Amy's time line.

Amy and Rory have an argument!!! Grin
