To think River Song is too old for MS's Doctor?

So this doctor is her doctor. Does anyone else think the actress and the character are too old for him? It's not just the physical age, he's just very young in general. River is mid 40s and so cool and sophisticated and the doctor is a bit of a twenty something goofball.

Or is it just me?

Yes, but you don't know when along their timeline, Lily. For all you know it takes place before Rory was 'refound' at Stonehenge. We don't necessarily see all of their adventures in order or even at all, do we? Grin

chrisonabike · 27/04/2011 12:45

I meant GP as in General Practitioner

so I guess not Grin

sfxmum · 27/04/2011 12:46

I think she is perfect, great character and a good actress to pull it off, the fact that they are both time travellers frees up the whole age thing which is fabulous

although I also got the feeling she had something to do with his death

Tee2072 · 27/04/2011 12:47

Oops, I just realized you said Amy and Rory had an argument, but it still could be before they meet back up. They said in the ep that they hadn't seen him for 2 months but didn't say how long it had been since their honeymoon, aka the Christmas Ep! So Amy and Rory could have travelled with the Doctor between then and being left on Earth and then sent the invites, if you see what I mean.

It's TIME TRAVEL!!! Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 27/04/2011 12:47

is Doctor Who a GP, then

In the very first series (William Hartnell - before my time even!) the girl Susan was his granddaughter. Exactly who her parents were was (AFAIK) never properly explained.

But my reference to 'grandfatherly' was more about the Jon Pertwee's relationship with assistant Jo - nary a hint of flirtation!

GrimmaTheNome · 27/04/2011 12:49

I meant GP as in General Practitioner

I did wonder which acronym you meant Grin - no, I reckon the NHS is too much for even a Timelord to deal with!

LilyBolero · 27/04/2011 12:51

I do know what you mean, I'm more convinced by the 'not real pregnancy' rather than 'happening in the past', but I guess we'll find out! Grin

bronze · 27/04/2011 12:56

Do you think their are any Doctors who have changed their name to Who?

(I know hes not called doctor who and that the title is a question)

Snapespeare · 27/04/2011 12:56

agrees River shot the doctor and River knows this - she shot at the retreating astronaut and missed. This is a woman who just shot a cool stetston off of her doctors head. and killed a dalek. she wouldn't miss uinless it was the doctor in the spacesuit or herself...

bronze · 27/04/2011 13:00

Or possibly Amy or Rory

but yes you're right about being a shot. Which explains why they did the hat bit at the beginning... to make the point

LilyBolero · 27/04/2011 13:04

I think the shooting the hat off is a River trademark though -she shot the fez last year!

The trailers show Amy (and duplicate Amy), 3 months on - no bump! And ONE of them is the real Amy!!!

Quenelle · 27/04/2011 13:08

Just imagine what the whiteboard in Steven Moffat's office looks like [cconfused]

bronze · 27/04/2011 13:09

Do you think he ever has nightmares where he wakes up realising he's got something confused

bronze · 27/04/2011 13:11

Lily- It still shows shows a good shot and not likely to miss. She can hit a fez/stetson but not a space(wo)man?

LilyBolero · 27/04/2011 13:11

lol!
My mother hates all the Steven Moffat episodes - she is much more a 'thrills and effects tart', so loved RTD!

EricNorthmansMistress · 27/04/2011 13:12

Did she miss? I thought she shot the astronaut but it didn't get affected or something, suggesting it was something immune to bullets. But if she missed then she obv knew who it was. I also thought it was a bit funny the way she insisted that Amy let the doctor go down by himself to the water. as if she knew he had to do it alone. I mean I know he had said to keep out of it but still, Amy's reaction was far more natural for someone who had seen someone they love shot with no prior warning.

OP posts:
LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 13:13

I wondered about the shooting bit as well - she fired off a good few shots

bronze · 27/04/2011 13:18

EN- I had thought it was immune too but after people on here said she missed I assume dI was wrong.
I normally am Grin

Snapespeare · 27/04/2011 13:39

hmm. i assumed she missed, not that space(wo)man was immune...Hmm

and i think she's fab, alex kingston. utterly fab. if they recast a younger river song in a couple of years, I'd like laoise murray i loved the line about the doctor turning up and turning a young girls head...

Lovecat · 27/04/2011 13:51

Idris Elba? Sorry, only got to page 4 of this, but he CANNOT ACT!!

To be fair, I've only ever seen him in Luther, but he was SHIT. S.H.I.T. We spent most of the series laughing at how crap he was, rather than following the show.

Don't care how yum he looks, he only has to open his mouth and he has the sex appeal of a dead halibut.

Btw, he cannot be the Doctor. That was my point, in case I wasn't clear...:)

AitchTwoOh · 27/04/2011 14:33

i thought that the bullets pinged off the spacesuit. didn't she say 'of course' or something like that?

bronze · 27/04/2011 14:38

Now I'm going to have to watch that bit again
I have things to do dontcha know

sfxmum · 27/04/2011 14:45

''Idris Elba? Sorry, only got to page 4 of this, but he CANNOT ACT!!''

I don't agree but really does her have to?Grin one of my all time list of gorgeous men

dh grew up with DrWho and really disliked Tennant saying he is too good looking to be The Doctor and he did not like the Russel era saying it was too sentimental, I think he approves of MS

I quite like Matt too but have no attachement to The Doctor myself so just take it as it comes and don't pay much attention to the lore

bronze · 27/04/2011 14:45

Right ok more thoughts
Aitch you are right she says of course not

When the Doctor first gets zapped RM has her hand on her gun the whole time. She holds back and holds Amy back that first time. Then the Doctor starts to regenerate and he gets shot again, this time she looks shocked and runs forward too. As if she wasn't expecteing the second bit.
But the doctor was expecting it as he has the gas arranged with Canton

Quenelle · 27/04/2011 14:49

Oh how I wish I hadn't fallen asleep five minutes into last week's episode.

Damn you Sauvignon Blanc!
