Well done on bodycombat nc4.

Am babysitting. Kids are in bed but not asleep. I have a slightly ominous sore throat.

School mums are threatening revolt over school trip involving the tube and an art gallery. I am in the camp of carry on as normal until told otherwise because i cannot face all the myriad judgment calls of doing otherwise, but i am in the minority it seems. Never realised i was such a compliant citizen.

Dionysa · 10/03/2020 22:10

Oh dear, Longest. I'm very much in the 'carry on' camp, not least as there's not much option but to carry on so far as I am concerned.

Cross with myself for going back to pointless drinking tonight, but that's too bad.

Body combat sounds fun despite the near-puke, NC4!

Haggisfish · 10/03/2020 23:31

Halloumi dinner sounds utterly delicious. I’m carrying on as normal, too, but I might not be so blasé in London. Tricky one. I’m on second night af. Am jealous of wined you people!

Frouby · 11/03/2020 06:54

I'm a carry oner as well. If I feel a bit twitchy I use my new found maffs skills to calculate the % of infected people in Italy and tell myself they have it wrong shutting a country down and look at the German and French response. Where it's pretty much business as normal I think.

My dsis is completely hysterical over it. In fact 2 of them are. One has said she has 'locked themselves away' and 'don't expect to see us until it's over'. Then went to the park with the dcs, nipped in aldi and called in at my other sisters for a cuppa.

But obviously that doesn't count. Fml.

I raved at Niche too NC. we could have been in there together. I definitely couldn't do it again. A mate of mine went the other year a few times when it reopened briefly and asked if I wanted to go. How I laughed Grin.

Loads to do today. Housework, Cheltenham (tho it's a bit rubbish compared to last year) and I need to do some food shopping.

I really want to pull quilt over my head and have a long lie in tho.

Nadine Dorries has Corona virus. She could have infected the whole of parliament. It’s starting to feel like a BBC drama.

Good luck with Cheltenham Frouby!

longestlurkerever · 11/03/2020 08:47

Yes, itge dhsc lawyers who would have written the infected SI she was signing when taken ill share my work kitchen. Had lunch with two of them on Monday.

Waterandlemonjuice · 11/03/2020 13:04

Oh no Longest 🤞🏻 You don’t get it.

Dionysa “because teenagers” is a damn good reason. Ds called me this morning to ask for clothes (maybe fair enough) but also complained, again, that I hadn’t handed over a random £50 on Friday “when you were in a restaurant when I called you!” - his logic being that if I can afford a restaurant I can give him an extra £50. On top of the cash we give him every week and the help towards rent and the online shops delivered and his phone bill paid and his bus pass etc etc etc. Cheeky fucker. Dd has a sore throat so is off school and bad tempered. I am too, not sure why. Bored of doing chores I think. Bored of parenting too if I’m honest 😂

Haggis well done on day 2.

NC4 Ikwym, I am still feeling the effects of 4 days drinking tbh. I hope the funeral goes ok, I think it’s today.

I forced myself onto the treadmill yesterday but am having a day off today. Day 2 AF again. Shopping arrived earlier but I’ve put the wine away in a cupboard, not in the fridge. Will try to hold off until Friday night at the earliest. This is day 39 AF this year, day 6 in March. Could be better but I suppose it could also be worse.

Dionysa · 11/03/2020 14:33

Water, I'm bored of parenting, too. It's just endless domestic chores (asking one of them to do anything useful generates several hours of "Oh my GOD, why do I have to do EVERYTHING, I'll do it LATER because I'm really BUSY now on Snapchat)

"Later" invariably means I do it later, and in a bad temper because I wanted it done three hours before.

You are doing well on the AF front, though.

Longest, eek. Keeping everything very firmly crossed for you.

Have spent the day chasing my tail so far. I fancy going back to bed too, Frouby.

Will try to be AF as I'm collecting DD from a netball thing later. Well done on Day 2, Haggis.

longestlurkerever · 11/03/2020 20:09

Hey all. Hmm, am bot feeling fabulous to be honest, but more woozy/sore throaty than fevery and coughy so fx nothing serious. Just sat down with glass of wine anyway.

Work is busy but my social mobility network hosted a great networking evebt thing which was my idea but i totally delegated it and it was great so i was v proud of them. Also had a coaching session as part of my leadership course thing. Could have done with getting some actual work done but hey ho, there's always tomorrow for that.

Sorry teenagers are being, well, teenagers. Would drive anyone to drink really, those of you resisting are doing brilliantly.

Not much else to report really.

Dionysa · 11/03/2020 20:45

Sending you a warm blanket, Longest. (And wine).

Had a small glass of wine but only very small as I had to collect DD. Then had something to eat and waited a couple of hours just to be certain. Was determined to have more when I got home, but I have now just got home, and can't be bothered. So that's kind of a win of sorts, I suppose.

I'm knackered, and want DD to go to bed so I can too.

Otherwise, I have so much to do that I am not doing any of it.

Waterandlemonjuice · 12/03/2020 13:16

longest I’m glad your event went well. I hope you feel better soon. Are you working or wfh? I won’t be surprised if parliament is closed and most of Whitehall told to wfh at some point. At least wfh capability is quite good in the civil service IME.

Dionysa that’s practically AF 🙂 I’d be claiming my teacup anyway

Today is day 3 AF this week, day 7 this month and day 40 overall this year. Am halfway through walking on the treadmill, no other plans other than some more boring chores.

It’s really windy here again. I wish the storms and the rain and the Coronavirus would fuck the fuck off. I’m still following the positive mental health Coronavirus thread which is here if anyone is interested. I’ve hidden most of the other threads, they’re unhelpful and verging on bonkers in some cases.

I’m spending the afternoon with a lovely friend tomorrow so I’m looking forward to that. And also on the bright side my cold sore is more or less gone.

I probably will drink wine tomorrow night, looking forward to it.

Waterandlemonjuice · 12/03/2020 13:24

Dionysa yy to teenagers saying they’re busy when they mean they’re on Snapchat, FaceTime or Netflix. Dd is off school today, she still has a sore throat (not sure I’m convinced she’s that ill tbh but hey) so I asked her to put some washing away, mostly hers. She did it with a sneer but at least she did it I suppose.

Waterandlemonjuice · 12/03/2020 13:25

I’m wondering how Flossie is, Flossie, I hope you’re ok.

NC4Now · 12/03/2020 13:34

I’ve been wondering about Flossie too. Hope you’re ok, if you’re reading.
Well the funeral was as nice as can be expected. Church was very emotional and the wake was nice. It carried on into the small hours so I’m feeling it a bit today. My big cat has plonked himself on me, so I’m spending the afternoon cuddling him and listening to podcasts, which is helping lots.
I’ll be back later. Planning a good AF stretch now xx

MadameF · 12/03/2020 19:47

I'm glad your funeral went well NC4. Enjoy your cuddle with the cat!
Well done to all of you being AF. Here in France I'm not, the President has just announced that all schools, lycées and universties will be closed from Monday until further notice. So to all of you with teenagers, I will have 2 of them here for the unforeseeable future. As well as that, first cancellation of many today for my gites. And most companies are postponing English lessons as they want to stop face to face meetings completely.
I can't help feeling that the UK government are a little too relaxed about everything.
So I'm not AF.

longestlurkerever · 12/03/2020 20:30

Yes it suddenly very much feels that way Mme. I was looking to France for reassurance we weren't totally out on a limb. Mind you we are probably a few days behind you so if the timing thing really is critical and you shouldn't jump the gun perhaps that explains the lag?

I am surprised they've not at least suggested home working where possible. Was planning to do that anyway for a few days as i am working short days and potentially need to self isolate a bit anyway with this cold.

NC4 i am glad the funeral went well, though bet it was hard.

AF tonight but have ordered curry. Was going to have friends over for drinks but have decided to give my body a break.

Tinkerbellx · 12/03/2020 21:52

Hello all
May I join please ?

MadameF · 12/03/2020 22:14

Longest
Ireland are behind the UK in cases but have already imposed the same restrictions as France. I really hope the UK manage to control the virus without extreme measures

Welcome tinkerbellx good luck with your moderating

Waterandlemonjuice · 12/03/2020 22:31

NC4 I’m glad it went as well as can be expected 💐

Madame oh no re teens at home and gites cancellations. What a rubbish double whammy, I wouldn’t be AF either.

Welcome tinkerbell

Longest I hope your curry was nice, what type did you have?

I’m shocked at Boris’s speech and the warning about loved ones, way to go to create even more panic without actually doing anything eg closing stuff. Apparently there’s been a rise in people buying chest freezers too, eek. Dh and I said we wished we lived in a remote croft with chickens and pigs and a vegetable patch. Which we don’t, obviously. So we’ll just have to keep on getting on with it I suppose.

I made a great bolognese today and a not so great vat of mushroom soup with mushrooms that needed using up. It wasn’t very nice so although dh had some I’m going to pour the rest away I think.

longestlurkerever · 12/03/2020 22:38

Yes. I think though that it's an area where you can reasonably make different judgment calls. I have found a few reassuring articles defending the logic of the UK approach which make it sound coherent rather than lax. It's based in part on behavioural predictions though which are never an exact science, to say the least. Anyway, it's all dreadful whichever path you go down, i think we can agree on that. I am just hoping there are some unforeseen societal upsides in the longer term - perhaps we will become less reliant on high carbon jetting about and more conscious of our health and communities? In my resilience training it talked about realism about the immediacy combined with longer term optimism being the best for mental health. I advocated swimming and gin, but this cold is preventing me from partaking in either so I'll try their approach for a bit.

Welcome Tinkerbell.

Frouby · 13/03/2020 08:50

Welcome tinkerbell.

Am glad the funeral went well NC. And I wouldn't have been dry either.

madame we are worried about the business as well. The theory has always been if dh couldn't work I could ramp up MBing and at least keep the wolves from the door. It's looking increasingly likely there will be nothing to actually bet on. Fuck sake. The only positive I can see is we claim DHs tax back in April and the business claims back CIS contributions we've suffered so will give us a tiny cushion if needed.

Haven't been dry. Not horrendous but a few beers each night.

Currently got ds off with a cough and a cold 😷😷😷. Absolutely marvellous. And school have just said if he is OK by monday he can go back so obviously the 7 days isolation hasn't kicked in here yet. Despite the government announcement last night.

Am not worried about him, am sure it's just a cold and even if it's not just a cold nothing I can do.

Cheltenham been rubbish as well. Hardly any decent offers to do so that's annoyed me as well.

OP posts:
longestlurkerever · 13/03/2020 09:12

Yes ditto frouby, we had an email round saying not to send them in with any cold or sniffle until they are better so that's dd2 home for, well, ever. But she doesn't have a persistent cough (yet) so we are not officially housebound. Will get pretty tiresome pretty quick though. Dd1 was supposed to be at a party after school but it's cancelled.

This is going to test our moderating resolve

NC4Now · 13/03/2020 12:12

I was shocked by Boris’s speech too Water. I wondered who had signed it off actually because it was not very reassuring.
I can’t get a Tesco delivery till Wednesday. I’m going to have to go to an actual shop. I don’t really do that.
I slept for 10 hours last night and I’m still tired. I think it’s emotional fatigue after Wednesday.
What’s everyone planning at the weekend?

Waterandlemonjuice · 13/03/2020 12:48

Sorry to hear about ds Frouby and yes longest this is going to test our moderating resolve, indeed.

NC4 he might as well have said “freak out and panic” I think. I’ve ordered more shopping online. I’m practically a prepper fgs

Definitely drinking tonight. No plans for the weekend other than spending time with dh and drinking wine and watching films.

MadameF · 13/03/2020 14:18

I'm quite shocked by Dominic Cummings Boris Johnson's reaction to the crisis. I hope his gamble pays off. Even in Norway where there has so far been no deaths they are closing schools etc.
Business seems to be more important than health in the Anglo Saxon countries.
Macron has promised to reimburse wages where necessary, to pay people sick leave to look after their children if they can't work from home. All visits to care homes stopped, all non urgent surgery stopped and no group gatherings of more than 100 people allowed.
Sadly the wedding of BIL this weekend has 85 people so it won't be cancelled Grin we really don't want to go!

I think in Italy mortgage payments are postponed, I hope it's the case here too. Otherwise I'm really in the merde.

Frouby I hope things work out for you and DH if his work dries up.

Going shopping later and expect to see lots of empty shelves.
