Ah longest, sweet picture, bless!

Frouby, I have a Madhur Jaffrey cookbook. Love your writing, well done.

I’ve been drinking loads, it’s been lush. But I’m on for a good AF streak, might do another 10 days, we’ll see. If not will definitely do 4 days until Friday night. Lovely weekend though: shagging and films and food and wine 🙂

Dionysa · 08/03/2020 21:09

Just catching up...

Longest, I love, love, love DD2's picture. And I know the mess of little people is horrendous, but I think I'd swap for the mess that DD makes as a teenager (DS is a tidying freak, which is arguably even worse).

Yay to your mangoes essay, Frouby. You are fab.

Mme, I genuinely laughed out loud about your bumsexe website.

Welcome back, Haggis!

I had a nice evening with DP. One very large (his measures) G&T, and half a bottle of wine. Nothing yesterday. Epic failure today, so will try to regain my momentum tomorrow. I have finished three bits of things, so fingers crossed. I just couldn't be arsed to be AF tonight. What's more, I have felt crap all day, and now feel better.

Hugs, NC4. Friend problems are horrible. So are periods.

longestlurkerever · 08/03/2020 21:29

Ugh, horrible day. Nasty argument with dh to add to argument with dds. We have technically made up but i still feel quite low. Took girls and girl next door swimming which was fine but dd1 showing off and being a pain. It did result in her swimming across the pool at top speed determined to get her independent swimmer wristband though so that's something as she normally loses confidence and puts her foot down.

Watching a film called"the wife" in aid of international women's day. Am AF but possibly was wrong choice.
.

Dionysa · 08/03/2020 21:36

Flowers, Longest. You are doing well to be AF!

NC4Now · 08/03/2020 22:41

You are indeed doing well Longest. I used to think an argument took a while to settle when I was married. You'll feel better when you've slept on it, I'm sure.

I'm also AF. Very almost wasn't. My friend rang me to clear the air. It's fine. We are both shopping fo funeral dresses, for our friend's this week and her mum's imminently. Life's too short to hold grudges.

God, I'm a bundle of fun, aren't I?

On a lighter note, I had lash extensions yesterday because I look knackered and fancied a pick me up. She's done them a bit longer than I'd like though, so I'm a bit worried I look like a pantomime dame! FML

Frouby · 09/03/2020 08:04

NC glad you have worked things out, you must both be so sad about funerals it's understandable to snap and lash out.

Was dry last night and will definitely be dry tonight cos interview and Cheltenham tomorrow. Hoping and praying my favourite bookie releases my favourite offer today otherwise it will be a bit of a wash out!

Busy day today, got to prep for chelts, prep for interview (more maths ffs) and have a general tidy around.

Also alternating between telling myself Corona virus is being massively overhyped and we're all going to die, or end up bankrupt cos dh won't be able to work for months and that there is going to be a worldwide recession and blah blah blah.

OP posts:
NC4Now · 09/03/2020 08:26

That’s my thinking re Corona too Frouby. I’m generally quite gung-ho about these illnesses that do the rounds, but the prospect of being off work is quite worrying.
In theory, us self employed folk should be allowed to sign on if we’re incapacitated, but I bet we can’t.

longestlurkerever · 09/03/2020 09:24

Agreed Frouby. I keep thinking, surely if it's only a bit worse than flu we should just avoid old folks' homes and cruise ships but otherwise crack on? Alternated with "agh they wouldn't be closing down whole regions and schools for nothing, we must be doomed!" Anyway, am writing this from packed tube carriage stick in a tunnel so there's not much i can do.

Thanks NC4, i do feel better this morning. Glad you do too.

What are people up to this week? I am hoping for a quieter one but mil is here tonight and i think i am babysitting later in the week. Saw friend's little boy yesterday though and he gave me massive hug so clearly we are not enemies for life. She's returning the favour on Saturday and I'm going to a gig at the Barbican assuming it's not called off. Is dn's birthday party on Sunday but am seeing her the following weekend so not sure whether to go- it's a long drive.

Ugh work week from hell to get through before then though. Not helped by one of my team is gaslighting me about promotion when she turned down all the options i offered to pursue on her behalf. Apparently that was then, because her son was doing exams, and this is now, as he finished them two days ago. Gah she must know that's not how it works and i do not appreciate having the facts twisted to make me look like i have sat on it. Hmm, i am obviously still grumpy, she's usually the model employee.

Frouby · 09/03/2020 09:37

I looked at France and Germanys stats this morning and they are 900/1000+ and no closures there yet apart from where they have odd pockets of outbreaks I think. Gatherings of 1000+ banned in france though so suppose sporting events will be held behind closed doors further into summer.

I was thinking about normal flu and it's only relatively recently we've started vaccinating against it and then only high risk groups. I remember in 97ish there was a flu going round bad enough to make the press, out of 8 people working in the branch I was in at the time, 4 of us got it (including me) and I remember it being a nightmare for staffing levels and I remember being off for 2 weeks on steroids for asthma but it wasn't talked about 1/100th as much.

Think the media is partially to blame for whipping people into a frenzy, plus all this testing wasn't around then. Corona virus isn't new, this form is but the actual group of viruses arent new and I think personally, based on nothing except common sense that we have had these viruses before and the world didn't end. The death rate worldwide so far is a few thousand. More die from that every day probably from preventable disease like dysentery and malaria.

Think this is being so hyped up because we have too much knowledge. We now know exactly how many cases, how many deaths worldwide and the 24/7 media streams don't help. Wash your hands, don't lick anyone and carry on as normal is probably all we can do.

This too shall pass.

OP posts:
Waterandlemonjuice · 09/03/2020 09:52

Pmsl Frouby at ‘don’t lick anyone’

I’m alternating between ‘it’ll be fine, surely?’ And ‘we’re all gonna die’ too. As I’m not working I can decide to not leave the house if I want to.

Longest sorry to hear of annoying team member and dh row. I hope your week improves.

Day 1 AF again. Feel sluggish from 4 nights of drinking wine so I’m on for a dry stint again, definitely until Friday night but I may do this weekend AF as well, we’ll see. Walked in the woods with dh yesterday which was good, it was bright and cold and sunny, very cheering. Gave dd a lift to school earlier and now I’m going back to sleep for an hour. After that the plan is treadmill, ironing and a bit of cleaning. How dull!

Dionysa · 09/03/2020 20:32

Wash your hands, don't lick anyone and carry on as normal is probably all we can do

You said it for me, Frouby (and better than I would have said it Grin).

Will be thinking of you tomorrow and keeping everything crossed for the interview.

Longest, I'm sorry you're having a miserable time of it. Flowers

NC4, well done on AF last night, especially in the circumstances. I'm glad your friend rang.

I like reading about the nice things you do with DH, Water.

Have managed to be AF tonight, yay, yay. Have had more horrible Coke Zero because no calories. Have now eaten, which helps. Already looking forward to bed.

Haggisfish · 09/03/2020 22:40

I’m alcohol free tonight too-night! I had these questions to think about today from oynb: What in your life is not working for you?
What needs to change with your habits and behaviour?
What have been the consequences of your drinking habits?
What will you gain from changing your relationship with alcohol?
Why is it just not an option for things to stay as they are?
I am pondering them...
Everyone has coped admirably with some very trying circumstances.

NC4Now · 09/03/2020 23:53

Those are good questions Haggis. I go through similar with my PT fairly regularly.
I’m not AF - after Weds (funeral) things go back to normal. No more Monday night bottles of wine, family sized crisps are out, gym is in. But for now, slack is being cut.
I’m not sure why those things don’t apply now really- maybe because we’re thinking and acting more as a group in the circumstances.
I’m looking forward to getting healthy again though. Despite everything I’ve lost a few cms from my arms, boobs and legs. Not the biggest loss but I’ve not gained this month so that’s a win.

I’ve had a bottle of red and gone to bed. That’s not moderate but I’m ashamed to admit, I haven’t stopped at a bottle for quite a while. I’m all or nothing, so while I’ve had lots of AF days, when I do pop, I can’t stop. If I’m brutally and ashamedly honest, it’s a win, going to bed after one bottle of red.

MadameF · 10/03/2020 06:48

Hello everyone,
Good luck today for your interview Frouby

Dion well done on being AF

NC4 you are very philosophical about everything and as you say everything will go back to normal

Haggis well done on being AF. Those questions are good and I asked myself before I went on strict moderation for 18 months. I managed AF 4 nights a week and one bottle of wine over the weekend without a problem when I was living alone. My problem is having a husband who likes a drink, so it is harder to say no.
I'm 2 weeks chocolate free, I wish I could do wine as easily.

Last night I had one glass of red, didn't want any more. My maximium intake is lower than it used to be - I can't physically drink more than one bottle of red now, that is one advantage of getting old!

longestlurkerever · 10/03/2020 09:34

Ooh yes good luck Frouby! Let us know how you get on.

NC4Now · 10/03/2020 10:43

Fingers, toes & legs crossed for you Frouby!!

Waterandlemonjuice · 10/03/2020 13:46

Good luck Frouby!

Checking in for day 2 AF. There IS dry white wine in the fridge though, will have to pretend to myself there isn’t. I look terrible but that’s got to improve. Surely?

Have walked2 miles on the treadmill, prepped supper, made a packed lunch, cleaned the top of the oven, done some washing, tidied a bit and now I’m sitting down. I hope everyone is having a good week.

Waterandlemonjuice · 10/03/2020 13:48

Well done

NC4, slack should really be cut under the circumstances 💐

Madame that is truly moderating- you could even admit that to a doctor! 😂

Frouby · 10/03/2020 15:37

Afternoon all

Jesus fucking christ am bloody knackered. English test was fine, a lot easier than I thought, maths was bearable but had quite a few wtf moments but hopefully will scrape through. Or I will have impressed them so much with my English they will overlook the mum maths. Had 2 interviews and am pretty sure they went ok too. They both seemed quite positive anyway, unless they just didn't want to hurt my feelings.

Loved the uni, got shown around and taken for lunch by 2 students in their final year of mature study. Having never actually looked round a uni I was quite shocked at how much there is. I expected the student union to just be a bar not a huge actual building with loads going off.

It reminded me of the the entertainment hub of Butlins if am honest but studenty 😂😂😂.

Am knackered now though. Just on train back to our station and think have had sensory overload for the day. Even though we don't live far from Sheffield it's somewhere I only go maybe once every 4 years especially the city centre and the last time I was in the student bit was when I was a raver 🙃.

Definetly won't be dry tonight. Have a bottle of wine in the fridge I need.

OP posts:
Haggisfish · 10/03/2020 15:58

Haha! Fair play. Well done you.

NC4Now · 10/03/2020 16:25

Brilliant Frouby!! Did you take a ride in the Paternoster lifts? That’s the law for anyone visiting Sheffield Uni 😆
We used to go to gigs at their Union, although it’s probably changed now. I worked in our Union, which was by the station, but it’s been demolished and moved into the big steel drum buildings over the road.
I miss Sheffers. Not sure I could hold my own in Niche or the Arches these days, but I could definitely be a happy mature student there.
It sounds like it went well.
Have you only applied to the uni, or are you looking at Hallam as well?

Waterandlemonjuice · 10/03/2020 18:05

Well done Frouby!

I’m unclaiming my teacup as I’ve opened wine. I’m channelling Nigella again: halloumi bites with chilli, sweet potato wedges with paprika and sour cream dip, beetroot, chorizo and halloumi salad and um nachos 😂

longestlurkerever · 10/03/2020 18:20

Ah well done Frouby, how exciting. Good luck!

Reasonably productive work day but still loads i didn't get round to. Oh well.

Managed to forward email to dh about his medical appointment to my entire team, cringe, oh well could have been worse (have not fessed up to dh though!)

Babysitting tonight but have outsourced woodcraft folk so not quite as crazy as it could have been, and at least guarantee of AF. Hoping kids will be in bed when i get there though as am shattered.

NC4 definitely slack must be cut, well done on the lost cms.

Dionysa · 10/03/2020 20:28

Checking in through a fog on non AF-ness to see how you got on, Frouby!!

I'm glad you got through it ok. I spent too many a few years at university, and would be scared of it now. But you are a bit younger than I am, so that might help.

I agree about the Paternoster, though. It's fab. Though maybe not one to try when you're not AF.

No excuse here. Have had a good half a bottle of wine because teenagers.

Blush at the email muddle, Longest. At least you have good reason to be AF.

I did laugh at your post to Madame, Water.

Very tired and wine-y.

NC4Now · 10/03/2020 20:53

My god, I can tell it’s been the week of takeaways and booze. I thought I was going to puke in body combat. I still live for the day I’m not the fattest in the class. This time next year, maybe. It’s fun anyway, wobbly bits and all.

Dion did you go to uni in Sheffield too? I feel like we may have followed each other round in the 90s/00s 😂

Jealous of your tea Water. I’m going to do some fresh pasta if and when I can be arsed. I bought a half sized bottle of wine for tonight. I reckon I can do it too!
