Hello everyone,
waves at Leaving from lockdown here in France! We have online lessons here too, but easier for me as DS is 13. Any children without access to a computer will be given a tablet here. Lessons every afternoon.
NC4 if you can't work from home you can work, public transport is still running, at least at the moment.
Longest I feel very sorry for people in cities as all public places including parks will be shut. At least here I can go out and run, on my own, in the countryside.
Not sure how we will carry on with the renovations as all DIY shops will be shut but at least the gites will be clean if and when we have bookings. I think April will be cancelled. Everyone is in the same boat though so we just need to get on with it.
No one can understand why the local elections weren't cancelled today. At the bakery this morning everyone was keeping their distance in the queue, far more than normal.

Frouby I hope the UK government are right. But I'm really worried about my 86 year old dad nevertheless as older people won't survive the herd immunity test they are doing.

On the plus side only 2 small glasses of wine last night at the wedding, and only 4 hours sleep

Frouby · 15/03/2020 08:55

madame it's very difficult I know. My dm is in the at risk groups and my lovely aunt definitely is. We (as a family) had already more or less bullied them into self isolating anyway and organised a shopping rota etc. Will have to add 74 year old fil in when the government enforces it and am definitely not looking forward to doing his shopping. He's a selfish, horrible bully so will do what I need to do for him as he has no one else (except his poor partner who is pushing 80!) But it will be once a week not the every day trips he usually does because I will only be going out when absolutely necessary.

I think i am with you frouby. Our government haven't disagreed that social distancing reduces the pace of the spread, they've asked what good, ultimately, does that do without a vaccine or herd Immunity at the end? And how long, realistically, can you keep it up for? Which is the question all the other governments are keeping very quiet about. None of this is good, it's all extremely shit, but i think every man and his dog wading in with an opinion isn't the way forward either - not that i don't think there should be questioning going on - just that it should be between experts, and then it's for governments, accountable to their electorates, to decide how to balance the competing interests in light of the expert advice.

I am heartbroken for my mum. She's going to take isolation very, very hard. I'm really gutted for the kids, who live for socialisation. Dd2 has been talking about her birthday party for months. I feel desperately anxious for everyone with underlying conditions We are just going to have to try and remain hopeful for the longer term. And, sorry to be glib, but order some wine in.

I think it's important to have some projects to do in the house and garden so i will try and get some paint and seeds etc and sign up to some online courses etc.

Leaving, it's good to hear from you but fuck me i wish it were in better circumstances. Let us know more how you are doing.

Mme i am glad you can still run.

MadameF · 15/03/2020 10:43

I think we are all worried about elderly relatives. Sorry about your DM and her birthday longest
Regarding which approach is right, the only country who have been successful in dealing with the crisis is China and their policy was lockdown.

longestlurkerever · 15/03/2020 11:40

Successful so far but i have no idea how they will prevent the cycle starting again since the virus is not dead worldwide

Frouby · 15/03/2020 12:29

Yes I think that is the issue with China and the world will be watching closely to see what happens next. They really are an experiment like us.

I think that the scientists have it right for the UK personally. I suspect that the death rates individually aren't as high as we are being told with the right interventions at the rights time for the right people. So incubation and assistance with breathing. The science exists to keep many more alive than what we have seen, the problem is we don't have enough resources. Not just in the UK but anywhere. And here in the UK we are working on the assumption that we will create a bit of herd immunity to protect us in winter.

Had to call in little Asda for a birthday card earlier. Jesus fuck it was carnage.

Had a couple of hours on the allotment earlier, planted some lettuce and cabbage and some strawberries and had a tidy round. Going tomorrow with ds to start some seeds off though it's a bit early but can always resow if I need to.

Checking in, not AF. Feel quite gloomy.

MadameF · 15/03/2020 21:52

Water at least you don't have the measures taken elsewhere in Europe. Rumeurs has it we will be under curfew from Tuesday here in France. Not even possible to go for a run or cycle ride 😥

Flossie44 · 15/03/2020 22:31

Hey you lovely lot 👋🏼

Just checked in to make sure you are all staying safe while the world as we know it is spun!!

I’ve been in hiding. Did SW. Lost a stone. Started running and yoga again. And basically kicked my own arse into feeling better both physically and mentally. However stilllllllll not managing AF!! Disgusted with myself. But still struggling as it’s my only way to cope with life’s crap. As you all know only too well.

Coronavirus...scares me shitless. DD’s are still going to school. But obviously dd2 has health issues so I’m watching with bated breath.

I do kind of think BoJo is doing this right. I’m trusting his scientists and hoping he doesn’t make me look a dick for doing so!!

Anyway..sending you all love. Am hoping I’m able to join you back on the ship....

Flossie! Welcome back! 💋💋💋

Madame, you’re right. Oh no, not running will be sad for you. Even if there’s nobody else around and you’re in the countryside? I’m so sorry.

Had a row with dh, still want to fast forward 12 months or whatever

Accidentalaccountant · 16/03/2020 00:15

Flossie welcome back. I am in Japan. All ok here. Whether I will ever get back......1 beer last night 🌙

MadameF · 16/03/2020 06:45

Welcome back Flossie and congratulations on losing a stone, without being AF that's seriously impressive! Star As is your running, especially with the crap weather we had.
I understand your worries for your DDs Flowers

At least the weather is good now despite the nightmare we are living in now. Water At least I have a big garden to run around if confinement to home is enforced here. It's the people in cities in appartments I feel sorry for.

Frouby · 16/03/2020 06:52

flossie! welcome back lovely. Well fone on losing a stone, I am locked in ever decreasing circles of despair with the same 3kgs 😂😂. I lose it, I gain it, I lose it and then gain it again. wondering if you lose weight with Corona am hopeful that schools eventually closing will mean I can drag ds to ponies, allotment and on long walks every day.

I also bizarrely trust Bojo. Loved that bucket analogy, saw it yesterday and shared it to family who are all panicking and flapping like mad.

Wasn't dry yesterday ffs. Had 2 glasses of wine while cooking dinner. Mainly because I got a dry, tickly cough mid way through, so decided I had it so might as well drink the wine before it went off while I was too ill.

Cough went after 1st glass. So my research concludes that sauvignon blanc kills Corona dead in its tracks. Grin. Think it was just an asthma cough.

Got both dcs off today. Ds cos in iso cos coughing over Friday and Saturday. Dd cos she's got a rotten period and looks really pastey and tired so told her to stay in bed.

Housework and paperwork and allotment today for us. Have decided allotment is an extension of the garden and ds is fine on there because we will be 2 meters away from anyone and no one should come onto it anyway.

Going to catch up - but Flossie, yay, yay, yay!!!!

Madame, I'd go mad without exercise. The effect of all of this on mental health is going to be immense.

Frouby · 16/03/2020 08:38

If we get Italy style shut downs Im going to get kids and dh to do some exercise videos. We can set up a laptop in back garden and work out that way 😂😂😂

Am also hoping we can still get to the allotment as we have the chooks to see to and to the ponies. Only 4 of us with hirses there and we can stagger times so we aren't there together.

longestlurkerever · 16/03/2020 09:16

I am actually getting really scared of the French approach. It's one thing doing everything in your power to address the risk you can see but what about all the unknown risks you are raising by taking those extreme steps for an unknown period? I really hope Macron hasn't gone all North Korea to make a political point, as much as I hope Boris hasn't gone in for trendy nudge theory over proper evidence for political reasons. We need the experts leading the way here.

Flossie, good to hear you my love, and hear you sounding positive.

I am wfh with dd2 again. Have sent dd1 in.

MadameF · 16/03/2020 11:45

Longest but it isn't just the French approach, it was the approach of China, Italy, Spain (although seemingly too late for the latter two). It will be interesting to see which approach deals with the pandemic better. 6 days ago France had the same infections and death rate as the UK has today.
I was really shocked to see photos of at 2 half marathons in the UK yesterday.

longestlurkerever · 16/03/2020 11:50

There seem to be different models of lockdown, i think the french one seems one of the most extreme. But yes, i am getting increasingly alarmed at the almost business as usual approach here too. Surely there's a middle way?

Frouby · 16/03/2020 11:57

I think there should be a middle way and hope the UK moves to that this week.

Schools closed friday until after Easter, close leisure places like gyms, pools, soft plays, limit gatherings, elderly and vulnerable to isolate themselves etc. Non urgent hospital and doctors cancelled. Keep your circle small etc.

Thing is if they wanting us all to get it apart from the elderly/vulnerable they arent going to do anything until the NHS cant cope then they going to have to resort to drastic measures to get things under control again. Would rather half measures for a few months than drastic ones for 1 month.

Getting really anxious about financial stuff as well. I can't work as no football and bookies are all high risk for going bankrupt so darent even try and do a bit on horse racing etc as unless they have high levels of protection if they go under they take my money too.

It's all a bit of a mess.

OP posts:
MadameF · 16/03/2020 12:49

France isn't in lock down yet Longest in the same way Spain and Italy are.
However that will probably change tonight as Macron is going to broadcast to the nation and I think we are in for 45 days of confinement except for work and food shopping. I'm going to buy a treadmill this afternoon.

Flossie44 · 16/03/2020 13:54

Madame, a treadmill is a great idea. Any chance you could put it outside also?? That way you get the fresh air too. I had a treadmill but hated running inside. For me it’s about the freshness of being outdoors.

I really hope BoJo starts acting a bit now. But I can also see he’s following scientific advice and I’m hoping to see it pay off

longestlurkerever · 16/03/2020 14:27

Mme my French friend just sent me the picture of tanks heading to paris. I am physically shaking.

MadameF · 16/03/2020 14:45

Macron will announce that we are in for 45 days confinement as from tomorrow. We have 48 hours to decide our prison place of confinement and there is a 6pm curfew every evening. Up to 3 months prison or a fine for non compliance.
I think I should be OK to run in the countryside where I live they will be concentrating the police and army in the big towns and cities.

longestlurkerever · 16/03/2020 14:51

Mme it is truly awful. People dying is awful too and i understand the fear but this feels like Margaret Atwood's dystopia where we are all just so obliging and accepting that it's for our own good and the next thing you know you don't live in a libertarian state at all. What happened to "we should all be practising social distancing?". Why is everyone so calm about this? I am glad you are away from it, maybe it just feels closer to home because i live in a city - those tanks would be rolling past my windows and scaring my children.
