Surely, surely there has to come a point where we change what we're doing to attract them.

The 1 in 100 headline is on Times Radio, I’m surprised they’re finally covering this stuff in more detail.

I’m not going to lie, the AfD in Germany terrify me. It’s like history repeating itself 100 years on.

Make no bones, they’re not “a bit right wing” - they are the modern Nazi party. Look into what they and their representatives advocate for. The German firewall needs to hold.

My feeling in the boats crossing the Channel is that this is the last mad rush before the autumn/winter storms arrive. Weather reports are suggesting we could be in for a very stormy season so that will put off crossings.

i totally get the frustration over these mega dinghies, but nothing justifies the thuggery on display from so-called “patriots”.

I don’t want the boats crossing either but I’m not going to advocate for lynching them on arrival or leaving them to drown.

Taking them straight back to France - and dumping them on the beach there - is the obvious answer. Given the amount the French are spending too now (helicopters and boats yeaterday), they would surely agree to this?

Yes it’s a symptom, and it’s pretty much across the EU.

I agree that the rise of the far right is a symptom of the wider problems, but people also have a responsibility to think critically when listening to these snake oil salesman and not just believe their simplistic rhetoric.

Blaming all of our problems on one group of people ignores the wider issues affecting society and lands us right back in 1938 again.

Is illegal immigration a problem? Absolutely.
Is it the only problem and to blame for all of our ills? No.

I don’t think the current system will last, there’s too much pressure against it. Those who want the status quo to remain are not going to concede easily.

So there’ll be a lot of flinging accusations etc around. But in the end I think voting pressure will be high enough.

I think many people do know that the far-right parties aren't the magical answer, but more and more will vote for them anyway because all else feels like its failed, none of the mainstream parties are actually changing anything, and they start to seem least-worst.

The optics of those buses and tents last night were quite something.

A fund raiser lifeboatmen pair explained to me that they’re not government funded as they can’t (shouldn’t) be directed to do anything but will continue to follow their charter of rescuing people in peril on the sea, whoever they are.
So maybe it’s Border Force they should lobby as essentially they do have a choice. But really they don’t as it’d be do it or the sack,

It's hardly a detterant to see coaches and tents and clothes packs is it ! And quite rightly all the emergency services as we don't want anyone to die !

I crave to live in what I now know has become a dream world, a thing of the past.
I want to live amongst people that follow the rules, understand that laws exist for a reason, that a community needs boundaries to move forward together by supporting each other, where families discharge their responsibility, and importantly, the few bad people don’t skew life for everyone else. I’ve struggled with religion since rebelling as a teenager against strict catholism but maybe a bit of structure would do us good.
I live very rurally and being retired can avoid much ‘behaviour’ but increasingly I worry about the future for my DGC.

When nothing is done for even the most obvious - and frankly easiest to solve - of these problems, then people go more and more extreme.

This isn't hard. The human rights machine have somehow gaslighted us all into believing that we can't possibly do anything about it <hand wring> but of course we can .

We are a sovereign country with our own laws and our own choices.

All this talk by Shabana Mahmood of getting tough on immigration was months ago and nothing has happened. Probably worried about upsetting the backbenchers.

Given her latest policies, I've now concluded she was just trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

It's so depressing that all the government ever seem to aim for is 'managing the population' - normally by lying to us - instead of trying to actually solve the problem..

I think we should all worry about extremists. AfD is extreme. Have a look at their stated policies. Changing the curriculum to water down teaching about Nazi Germany, for example, is not a policy any sensible person could possibly support. Their love-in with Russia is another alarming aspect of the party. Yesterday was not a good day.

We should of course also worry equally about the far left. Considering how far Corbyn managed to climb while also blowing kisses at Russia was alarming. Diane Abbott came out with some extreme nonsense about NATO and Russia the other day too. There are plenty of these headbangers in and around Labour.

Most disgraceful is the left’s antisemitism, which is widely spread. Until that’s genuinely dealt with I’ll listen to the moderate right’s opposition to AfD and its like, and not the hypocritical left.

I think that’ll work up to a point, but probably failing now across EU countries.

The figures for yesterday's boat crossings will be available later this afternoon. I feel sick at thought of hundreds more of these men on our streets. Glad to see The Times focus on this and the whistle blower today. I've seen reports of more protests in Poole, but there's little info.

I tried listening to Healey's speech but it was like a lullaby so tuned out. Can't be arsed with Labour today. 4000 jobs lost at JLR.
