A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The inherent contradictions in all this must be reaching a breaking point, surely.

The wording in the pamphlet is disturbing.

At least it should put an end to the utter denial from some on MN that it’s happening at all. Oh wait…

How many still are keen for those Labour barracks nearby to them, safe with some pamphlets.

Ha, so true.
Everything is fine, they've had a pamphlet. Carry on.

Some interesting stats in this article. Its being reported that rent caps will be increased to achieve Burnham's goal of housing migrants in more expensive areas.

On the trial one-in-one out scheme which Mahmood wants to make permanent:
A total of 1,087 migrants have been deported to France under the scheme — less than 4 per cent of small boat arrivals, while 1,117 asylum seekers have been transferred to the UK under the reciprocal terms of the agreement.

And on deportations:
The Home Office has published figures showing 80,286 foreign citizens with no right to be in the UK have been returned since Labour took power two years ago, although only a quarter of them were failed asylum seekers and just 7 per cent were small-boat arrivals.

Sue Gray’s given an interview in which she complains of the toxic state of No 10 under Starmer. Leaks, horrible briefings, jostling for position and all that.

I’m sooo impressed by Labour’s restoration of order to government. No sackings, no recriminations, no in-fighting, no discontent, no coups, and all smooth behind the scenes. How fortunate we are to have a chaos-free and grown-up government. 🙄

redange · 20/08/2026 10:06

it must be wonderful to be a person who can put Putin's threats illegal Boats out of control a 3 trillion deficit a shrinking workforce and be able to talk about Buses in Birmingham. Somebody who is able to put out of his mind every disaster this country is witnessing and concentrate on the Buses and Rough Sleepers really is a remarkable Man ! What a truly Un-Serious man Andy Burnham is.

DD1 just achieved 3 grade 9s 4 8s and 3 7s though perhaps after what Lucy Powell believes, grade 4 and 5s all round would be perfect. I utterly despair because it seems like we have not hit the 'bottom' hence the point where things will at least not get worse !

Ikr, "we will end the chaos" 😂😂😂
Labour have made the tories look like a nest of singing birds.

I haven't listened to Sue Gray's interview yet, but will do when I have time.
From the overview I have read, I wasn't impressed. She seems to be trying to cover her own arse for the failure of those early days, also fires shots at others, who in turn have blamed her.
She also says that Burnham has a clear vision of what he wants to do, without explaining what that vision is. Does anyone know? I certainly don't as he's avoided proper scrutiny at every step towards Downing St.

Excellent results! Hope she is pleased x

Good luck to any other posters with dc getting their results today. I'm very grateful that this year is a fallow year for exams in our house. It's so stressful.

Thank You Dinner . The grades where what we roughly were expecting, but it is still nice to see them for real. However, there is a problem with high achieving Grammar School girls DD1 is on the phone to her friends moaning and 'disappointed' for getting an 8 in Maths and a 8 in English Literature . Wanting a remark on both for no 'reason' other than equaling her friends.

redange · 20/08/2026 10:23

Were ! I think i would looking at a grade 1 for English....

redange · 20/08/2026 10:27

Thank You Nuthatch . DD1 will be taking A levels in Government & Politics Chemistry, English Literature and History. Hence the disappointment missing a 9 in English Literature by 2 marks ! she got 140 out of 160 in English Lit the Boundary being 142 with AQA.

Sapphire I think the point was we believe or should believe that doctors act to get us the best care available at that time .ie that's what they should be doing!
And yet there has been something going on behind the scenes with dogdy skewed incentives that mean some referrals are being delayed.

This is to make NHS waiting times look better.

Yes it's worrying !

But at least we know now and can call any docs out on it lol

Edited

Calling them out at GP level makes little difference, they just argue back.
I’ve an arthritic knee they classed as wear and tear from a scan, but a consultant that performed ankle surgery was so cross he told them I needed a referral in his discharge letter. I also contrived a review by a senior physio, who did the same.
All that happened is they rang and asked me what was going on. Three years later we’re at impasse.

That’s brilliant, well done 🙌😀

We have a very happy boy too, who met his expectations. He’s going on to Physics, Maths, FM and Chemistry.

Missing a 9 by two marks is annoying, but she should be thrilled with those results. My dd is similar, anything less than 9 she sees as failure. Drives me insane!

Thanks @Nuthatch26going to make the dc a cake 😀

I have started a thread in AIBU about the fact my DD's Grammar lets in around 30 boys a year into the Sixth Form and personally wished they didn't . I wished it stayed Single Sex all over and I have always thought Boys Grammars should do the Co-ED thing but let Girls Grammars be single sex at 6th form please.

Sometimes it is worth questioning when its close. Those grades may be considered when she applies for uni, and Alevels are reviewed by employers in your early career.

The marking in humanities subjects can vary because of their inherent subjectivity.

Thanks, yes. He talked a bit about doing maths or CS for a while but engineering seems to be the front runner.

Looking back I actually have quite fond memories of testing him on German and biology etc each night, but perhaps now it’s over and the results are in!

Oh and I read Pride and Prejudice in solidarity, it’s really good, some excellent quotes.

Congratulations all on GCSE results. Time to celebrate y'all.
