I crapped myself today...

Name changed for very obvious reasons..

I've been under the weather for the last few days, sort of like I have a cold but without the runny nose, feel run down but otherwise okay to carry on shopping /attend school events (eldest leaving primary this week), looking after toddler etc.

Stood in the living room about to try on my new dress and out of nowhere I catastrophically shit myself. No warning, no cramps, nothing, just explosive watery shit. I am so fucking happy that I was at a home but I am MORTIFIED. This has never happened to me before, even close and I have IBS but jesus fucking christ I am so embarrassed.

I had to confess to dp though and I'm in and out of the bathroom now every 2 mins it feels like. I've gone to bed now and trying to ignore the literal shit show that has happened to me today.

I don't know why I'm posting other than in pure hope that some solidarity will be shown to me and it'll ease my tense embarrassment...

There is currently an outbreak of cyclosporiasis in the USA with exactly these symptoms. I would call your GP to get tested and the relevant antibiotics. Good luck!

I haven't travelled and you can't catch this in the UK thankfully.

I'm not overly ill in the typical way, a bit dehydrated I guess so weak and a bit dizzy but other than the obvious I feel alright all in all. Hoping I'll feel better really soon, I start a new job next Sunday and off on holiday on that Monday. I also got my period today so someone is really hating on me right now.

Also, I offended a poster yesterday when I mentioned Jesus Christ. I apologise for that, I wasn't thinking.

I had awful diarrhoea this week - I posted in General Health as I had such weird symptoms. I’m fine now 3 days later but it wiped me out physically for a couple of days (just got appetite back now).

I hope you don't mind but I've just read your thread and it sounds remarkably similar. I put my money on it being food poisoning but it appears there's quite a few people out there at the moment with the same symptoms. The no pain I'm finding really odd.

I know you shouldn’t take your bowel rebellions too personally, but it must seem so unfair to have to deal with that and to have to manage a toddler too. When this is over, find a simple but satisfying way to reward yourself for strength and patience under duress.

Itsjustmethatsall · 18/07/2026 22:27

Anybody would think that those people who are saying 'reported' and looking down their noses at you, had had their arses sown up so they didn't do anything as dreadfully disgusting. FGS.
EVERYBODY has to get rid of their waste somehow. It's not something that only the dregs of society do. If you don't like the subject, simply scroll on by, not make the poster feel worse.
The way some are carrying on, it's as if nothing so awful has ever happened.
OP, please take care of yourself, plenty of fluids, and rest too. I fully understand you posting. Honestly, it's happened to me whilst I was recovering from bowel cancer. Even if you're on your own, and nobody sees, or knows, it's still utterly mortifying.
Please, though, keep an eye on things. If this sort of thing persists, or it starts going from one to the other type ie not normal, please go to the doctor. If anything is amiss, it can be sorted quickly
Hope you feel better soon x

I caught it from my DD on the first day of our holiday and I was shitting myself in my sleep, I have NEVER had diarrhea so severe before (very rarely get it), I had to spend 50 mins on the toilet the next morning just to make sure it had stopped coming out before we went out for the day, but it just wouldn't stop.

I had to go and buy Imodium (instant) for the first time in my life and was amazed at how effective and fast it works, amazing stuff! Definitely salvaged our holiday! Get some if you haven't got any!

I was ill for around a week, but at least it stopped me shitting myself.

And this is why S&D is rife in hotels folks

MoonWoman69 · 18/07/2026 23:24

I can't begin to tell you how many times this has happened to me. Some when I've been out with friends (twice with just males, I had to make an excuse one of the times, I was too embarrassed to admit what had happened) out in the car with my husband, in the car on my own and having to quickly get in the house, absolutely covered in it. It's embarrassing and soul destroying. I am now on 3 immodium a day and have mainly gone the other way, thankfully! I do have the odd episode still. But yes, it can just happen with no pain, no warning, nothing, for those claiming it can't!
My doctor reckoned it was bowel neuropathy, after I had every test going with no real conclusion.
A litre of water with a pinch of salt and a pinch of sugar shaken well will get your electrolytes back up @Cantcopeomg Wishing you well 🌻

Happens to us all

GlomOfNit · 19/07/2026 00:14

It's happened to all of us at some point or another! poor OP, it's bloody horrible.

Amused at all the pearl-clutching on here. My oh my, MN has changed in the 20 years I've been on. It used to be perfectly ok to post something like this - for wry amusement, reassurance, etc. Now you just get scolded by joyless tutters who think you should keep yourself to yourself. This is an anonymous forum, idiots. Sometimes it's really helpful to have a forum where you can bare all without outing yourself.

And IF this had been started by a poo troll - well, I'm quite sure there are enough corners of the internet where they could get their kicks without starting posts on MN.

I find this really bizarre. I am in my 50s and this has never happened to me, not even close. I’ve had D&V sure, but you know when you have it. Suddenly and unexpectedly losing control of my bowel, no. I don’t think that is anywhere near a normal experience everyone has. Why are there posters saying it is?!

One person on here doesn't have the (very very common) life experience that a lot of other people do have, shock. Hmm

Well, aren't YOU lucky? Yes it can happen unexpectedly, for all sorts of reasons, both mundane and serious. Why you'd want to try and belittle the OP for something you're lucky enough never to experience, I don't know. Are you like this in RL too? I suggest trying to get a bit more emotional intelligence, and develop some imagination whilst you're at it.

garlictwist · 19/07/2026 06:07

I had a colonoscopy a few years ago so had been up all night drinking the stuff that makes you shit yourself. After the procedure DH picked me up and we went to a shop to get a few bits he needed.

whilst in the queue I felt another “urge”. I had to dash into the car park, find the largest car available and just go behind it. Ironically the shop was Go Outdoors.

Almost happended to me, I had IBS when I was younger and it's nasty the way it just creeps up on you.Bless you I hope you feel better soon and your DP is understanding and sympathetic

Odellio · 19/07/2026 08:11

Solidarity. I shat myself in middle of Lidl.

Find it baffling that other woman want to shame you for sharing this experience when it's spooked you. You mentioned a young DD, if you're post partum it might be a pelvic floor thing. My incident happened 2 weeks post VB. Physiotherapist helped and not happened since.

nerdalert5 · 19/07/2026 08:21

I find it so juvenile that so many posters can’t just take the thread in good faith. Something unpleasant and embarrassing happened to the op and she’s sharing it on an anonymous forum. Any mention of poo - a very normal bodily function, although not in this case apparently - and posters become like kids in a playground. Ooooh poo troll, oooh you’re so bizarre, why would you post this, reported.

Grow up. If you suspect ill intentions then report the thread, MN will check the posters history and make a decision on whether it’s genuine.

I posted once about my IBS issues and got a load of these silly comments. It made me feel even worse. People can just scroll on and not get involved in a thread if they find it so disgusting.

Op take no notice of these morons and I hope you feel better soon. Hopefully just a one off.

A lot of people have bowel diseases! I've never shit myself but I have come very close to it on my overseas travels a few times because trigger foods can cause something to suddenly happen quite quickly after eating it, I had a beautiful but creamy and decadent meal in Tbilisi (shkmeruli chicken, roasted oily veg) and within a couple of minutes of leaving the restaurant had a sudden and very desperate urge to go, luckily we were passing a Macdonald's at that point because I genuinely couldn't have walked the ten minutes back to the apartment. I think I get something called bile malabsorption when I eat anything too fatty.

Why blame the person who has written the post, once she's got it what did you want her to do? Sleep outside? Perhaps if people exercised better hygiene around buffets and swimming pools in hotel resorts!

No you stay in the room for 48 hours after the last bout, like you do at home and kids have to do at school. Absolutely vile walking round with a horrendous bug exposing everyone else to it.

As a bowel disease sufferer myself, I've really appreciated online support groups where everyone can be open and honest, not only is it nice to have people to relate to but it can help identify trigger foods and drinks that I might never have thought of. I would also bet that online discussions have saved lives by prompting people to get checked out when something sounds more serious than just bowel disease.

zacsGranny · 19/07/2026 10:25

I have suffered from Smoldering Diverticulitis for eight months now. There have been days and weeks when I haven't been able to leave the bathroom, let alone the house. The condition really does rule your life.
Occasionally it can happen in a public place and no matter how you learn to cope with it, it's embarrassing and uncomfortable.

I have a Colonoscopy on Tuesday and I'm really hoping for some answers as I've had so many flare ups and been hospitalised.
You have my sympathy OP.

Yes I have been part of some forums online where adults are actually able to speak frankly about these things without the childish comments and ignorance. I understand it’s not the nicest subject but the poo troll accusations and general outrage over an illness/issue just because it relates to one of the less pleasant biological areas is just pathetic.

God no I have IBS and last year got slapped cheek off my daughter on the first day of our holiday, horrible thing. Nothing we can do though, just had to wait it out in the room sadly
