I've been under the weather for the last few days, sort of like I have a cold but without the runny nose, feel run down but otherwise okay to carry on shopping /attend school events (eldest leaving primary this week), looking after toddler etc.

Stood in the living room about to try on my new dress and out of nowhere I catastrophically shit myself. No warning, no cramps, nothing, just explosive watery shit. I am so fucking happy that I was at a home but I am MORTIFIED. This has never happened to me before, even close and I have IBS but jesus fucking christ I am so embarrassed.

I had to confess to dp though and I'm in and out of the bathroom now every 2 mins it feels like. I've gone to bed now and trying to ignore the literal shit show that has happened to me today.

I don't know why I'm posting other than in pure hope that some solidarity will be shown to me and it'll ease my tense embarrassment...

Could be rotavirus. It's worse than norovirus. Equally food poisoning or one of these parasites you get on farms.

Imodium should be used with caution - I'm a food safety person and over the years have spent far too much time learning about food poisoning and it's results...

If your body is poisoned - by a bug/pathogen or virus - the diarrhea is part of the healing process. You are literally getting rid of the cause of the problem.

So take imodium if absolutely necessary - you HAVE to travel or you are out and about when the need strikes... but don't rely on it to get you through days of sickness, you will probably extend the illness by stopping your body getting rid of the problem

Sympathies that you've been feeling unwell OP but really - it's a medical issue clearly, nothing there's any need to be embarrassed about or that needs to be hidden from a partner. I expect most people will have experience of a gastric issue once in their life at some point, it is what it is.

Put a big, thick towel underneath you when you go to sleep tonight, so just in case you have any more episodes during the night, you won’t need to be worrying about your mattress at 3am. I’d be inclined to put one on DH’s side too, just in case it’s something like Norovirus and you’re all going to come down with it.

Try not to take Imodium if you’re at home. If it’s a bug, it needs to go through you and exit your body and Imodium stops that from happening (In no way am I sure that this is a genuine thing. I heard it somewhere and thought it sounded sensible)

Also, make sure you drink lots of water, especially if you’ve lost a lot of fluid, so you don’t get dehydrated. You can get electrolyte sachets now that you mix in with water, but they taste bloody disgusting.

Yes I've heard of this happening, how horrific for all right now! It must be a really scary situation.

It could be covid but I usually get that with a raging fever and I'm down for a week or so. It's quite mild what I have, muscle aches etc but I'm up and about doing daily life. Or at least I was until this afternoon! I was at a soft play twice this week so it could be anything let's face it.
