I crapped myself today...

Name changed for very obvious reasons..

I've been under the weather for the last few days, sort of like I have a cold but without the runny nose, feel run down but otherwise okay to carry on shopping /attend school events (eldest leaving primary this week), looking after toddler etc.

Stood in the living room about to try on my new dress and out of nowhere I catastrophically shit myself. No warning, no cramps, nothing, just explosive watery shit. I am so fucking happy that I was at a home but I am MORTIFIED. This has never happened to me before, even close and I have IBS but jesus fucking christ I am so embarrassed.

I had to confess to dp though and I'm in and out of the bathroom now every 2 mins it feels like. I've gone to bed now and trying to ignore the literal shit show that has happened to me today.

I don't know why I'm posting other than in pure hope that some solidarity will be shown to me and it'll ease my tense embarrassment...

Op, don’t be embarrassed, arm yourself with humour and ignore those weirdos on here who didn’t miss the opportunity to try and make you feel worse . MN is in fact a great place to share embarrassing experiences, get support or just vent. I think would be good to observe your body and maybe get a check up,if you feel it’s necessary, but you are not feeling well you say, and this can easily be a one-off freak accident,it’s not the first time I heard of it, just don’t let it freak you out and don’t let the haters bring you down . Get well soon 🌹

Cantcopeomg · 17/07/2026 18:57

Thank you for the support, you have mostly all made me feel better about it! Toddler DD bedtime now so I've slunk to the sofa for the evening. Elder DD is making her own dinner which is amazing and dp has done bath and bedtime. Superstars ⭐

So kick back and recuperate rather than get yourself het up on mumsnet

TheRestIsEntertsinent · 17/07/2026 19:15

Please don't share your own experiences folks.

LakieLady · 17/07/2026 19:16

I'm generally blessed with cast-iron guts, but a few years ago I had dreadful food poisoning that gave me the most appalling diarrhoea. It would just erupt without any warning.

The only toilet in my house is upstairs, and for a few days I was scared to venture more than a few feet from it. I didn't dare stay downstairs for any longer than it takes to make a cup of tea. I had no idea it could give people such awful cramps and generally make you feel so ill.

Hope you feel better soon, OP, and that your DH is looking after you.

Please be wary of sharing any of your own “experiences “ folks!

This. ^

Not gonna lie, I am struggling to fathom why anyone feels the need to share on the internet - on a very popular message forum - that they 'catastrophically shit themselves...'

Just baffling. Confused

GameOfJones · 17/07/2026 19:27

You poor thing. It happened to me once too and it was horrible. It was 20 years ago and I can still remember how suddenly it happened and how mortified I felt. I can understand sharing for solidarity because at the time I felt ashamed and that I must be the only person it had ever happened to.

I find the posters that automatically assume you must have a poo fetish far weirder than an ill MNetter sharing something embarrassing anonymously.

It's just one of those things OP, I hope you feel better soon and am glad you were at home when it happened.

Not baffling at all. I would be so alarmed & freaked out if this happened to me, especially if there was no warning.
It’s not like you can share in real life, is it?

cornflowerbluey · 17/07/2026 19:31

My husband had this happen when he tried some real ale for the first time.

Never again !

He just made it back to the house but not to the loo.........

I have crohn’s disease. This has happened to me many times. You’re far from alone i promise you.

NCForOneNightOnly · 17/07/2026 19:36

Well I kind of hear you sister. I also have had this weird cold thing without a runny nose and watery shits. Mine was in the toilet though. Not in my kecks thankfully.

because she feels embarrased. in no small part because people like you react like that to this happening. The fact people are ashamed to talk about bowel issues literally kills peklle with bowel cancer, and means people like me with IBD struggle far longer than we should alone and in fear.

tachetastic · 17/07/2026 19:37

Hope your new dress looked nice after you'd washed down the walls. 😱

Apologies if that was insensitive, but I hope the fact that you posted this means you are open to seeing the lighter side. Do take your health seriously though. I have had a number of occasions when I had to get to the loo asap, but never anything like this happen where there was no warning.

GrottBaggs · 17/07/2026 16:50

Could be Covid possibly?

Out of all the most and more obvious things it could be, you suggest this, why?

Diamondsareforever72 · 17/07/2026 19:44

SandyHappy · 17/07/2026 18:21

I caught it from my DD on the first day of our holiday and I was shitting myself in my sleep, I have NEVER had diarrhea so severe before (very rarely get it), I had to spend 50 mins on the toilet the next morning just to make sure it had stopped coming out before we went out for the day, but it just wouldn't stop.

I had to go and buy Imodium (instant) for the first time in my life and was amazed at how effective and fast it works, amazing stuff! Definitely salvaged our holiday! Get some if you haven't got any!

I was ill for around a week, but at least it stopped me shitting myself.

Imodium makes me feel as though as though I’m dying.
Strange but true.

Errr, yes, it IS baffling to tell people about it on a message forum! IN MY OPINION, and that of some other posters according to this thread.

I would certainly not share anything like this online to strangers.

Why would you share this!

What a weird place mumsnet can be.

For solidarity?

What a cold place mumsnet can be sometimes…

Missthemachine · 17/07/2026 19:46

because I don't have anyone I want to admit this to in my actual life

you did though. Your DP. You told him. Was he not enough?

So why on earth did you click on the link to this thread when OP's thread title made it very clear what happened to her?

If it is clear from the title that certain threads won't be to my taste, I don't even click on the link.

LBFseBrom · 17/07/2026 19:53

I am sorry, I have had the same experience with IBS.

Be careful now, it will pass.

(Why say "Jesus f*ing Christ"? Jesus had nothing to do with it.)
