A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Wes…I fear he is probably the one that could carry this on and recover popularity a bit although he’d need some random good luck on the economy, jobs, nhs etc….

Parsley4321 · 14/01/2026 16:17

Wes is a wet weekend he is like a child Kemi will know him into next week god she was bloody great today go Kemi !!!!

Idk really they are bad whichever way they go. I find it amusing to bizarre that anyone on here still likes Starmer, there’s a few left who still think he’s great.

Yvette Cooper?

Yeah people that still like Starmer / think he’s doing a good job, are probably not that bright.

Och I can’t with Yvette Cooper idk I assume it’s either Streeting or Burnham should Starmer be put out of his political misery.

Januaryescape · 14/01/2026 16:31

i’m not a Wes fan but I can see he’s really the only Labour politician in the govt with the ability to not come across badly nearly all of the time.

HermoineFairfax · 14/01/2026 16:58

I just had to say I love the cartoon at the start of this thread - ban Wednesday on his resolution list😂

As much as I cant stomach Starmer who else is there to replace him? The left love Andy Burnham, he's a Northern god to them but I don't think he wants it. Wide eyed Wes - yes a possibility. Of course disgraced Angela Rayner could make a comeback. Struggling to think of anyone else who can fill the slot until it's time for the Tories or Reform to take the keys to No. 10.

We will have to grit out teeth for a while yet.

Though Burnham needs to get himself elected to parliament first - no by-election will be a shoe in for him. Will be interesting to see if anyone does step down as inferred towards the end of the last thread.

EmeraldRoulette · 14/01/2026 17:21

@Parsley4321 sorry to hear that. Will they explain what the problem is?

It seems to me that there are so many parts of the country becoming odd now. I thought Salcombe and Stroud would be pretty nice. But a lot of places are going wrong now, aren't they? At least that's the impression I get.

I don't wander out of my area very much. As I say, still a mystery that in an area that's quite right wing, I only ever seem to meet lefties 😂

boys3 · 14/01/2026 17:33

Fascinating article on replacement theory from a couple of days ago

https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk-politics/2026/01/union-members-decide-next-labour-leadership-starmer-streeting-burnham

Plus how guarded Labour are on giving latest membership numbers.

Survation did some research last Autumn suggesting Burham and Rayner well ahead of Starmer, whereas Streeting and Milliband ahead of him but within the margin of error. Whilst Phillipson , Powell and Mahmood would all lose in a head to head.

Their research based though on Labour members. As the linked article sets out quite who makes up the electorate for a Labour leadership contest is……unclear. That’s a nice diplomatic word.

now a budget and more u-turns since that research carried out so the picture may now differ. I’d imagine bond market best bud (not) Burnham would be frontrunner (to the cliff edge) were he actually an MP. Which of course he isn’t.

Union members could decide who the next Labour leader is

With party membership figures plummeting, affiliates take on a new importance

Question raised at PMQs by backbencher about the Labour MP who also happens to be Jewish and the cancellation of a school visit.

Our PM “will be holding to account those who prevented this visit”. I genuinely hope that does prove to be the case. Not 100% optimistic.

Maybe not badly all the time but when he is bad he is shockingly awful.

Pacificsunshine · 14/01/2026 17:46

I could go for Shabana Manhood. I think she is tough and effective compared to the rest of them. Labour would never go for her though.

I don't know, I definitely prefer this home secretary version of Mahmood than the - lie down in front of the co-op because they are selling sinful Israeli food inside Mahmood. Which version would we get?

Parsley4321 · 14/01/2026 17:49

@EmeraldRoulette i have asked for a reason. Stroud is hideously left just on another level see Dale Vince’s flag adorning the main area coming into Stroud

I just read a quote on the Speccy site from PMQs about more positions than the Kama Sutra and the country being screwed. My instant reaction was to cringe at such an unfunny, stilted line and be embarrassed for Badenoch. Under the quote I then saw it was Starmer and breathed a sigh of relief.

No doubt the MN Labour fangirls think it’s ace. 🙄

It’s total cringe isn’t it although some on MN seem to think Starmer was being so witty!

Parsley4321 · 14/01/2026 18:07

I tell you who is witty Kemi god she is hilarious total fan

Parsley4321 · 14/01/2026 18:22

@Upstartled i love it !
how much would any of you give to be a fly in the wall in the Ball/Cooper household 🤣

He really doesn't like women I've decided even labour ones.

His poor wife.

If she was a mumsnetter asking for advice. We'd all be saying LTB!!

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 14/01/2026 19:20

Come on.

Starmer is a prick. His line at PMQs was unfunny, crass and embarrassing. I detest him. And a man of his age with his background probably is bad with women.

But there’s no reason to think he actively hates women. Equally, the rumours about using rent boys have absolutely nothing to back them up and should be treated as trash. We don’t need to exaggerate or invent Starmer’s faults. He has enough on display in public every single day.

I said something similar about the Phillipson rumour: the left invented all sorts of scurrilous nonsense about the Tories; I think we can do better than that shower of bitter little no-marks and stick to what’s proven.

Hello! Gatecrashing here. Following for interest. I actively avoid the AIBU? boards and this is Chat so I figure I'll be okay here.
