A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Brilliant thanks @TheNuthatch. Such good news at the end of the last one on the digital ID u turn.

Such sad news still about Iran.

EmeraldRoulette · 13/01/2026 20:58

@TheNuthatch thank you

I replied to people on the end of the last thread! So I'm not ignoring you and I can't tag you in because you haven't posted yet!

LupaMoonhowl · 13/01/2026 21:01

Thank you / this thread is needed more than ever.

EmeraldRoulette · 13/01/2026 21:09

hello @LupaMoonhowl I replied to you and to "notimagain" on the old thread.

it feels like this government has been in forever! or is that just me?

Pacificsunshine · 13/01/2026 21:13

It’s not just you!

strawberrybubblegum · 13/01/2026 22:00

How can there have been so much fuckwittery in just 18 months?!

Alternativelyviewed · 13/01/2026 23:05

Checking in

justasking111 · 13/01/2026 23:09

Thanks @TheNuthatch

This is indeed needed

"Trump threatens to ban Wall Street investments in single-family homes | Reuters" https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-will-ban-large-institutional-investors-buying-single-family-homes-trump-says-2026-01-07/

Now Blackstone and others have been wooing the government to invest as landlords in the UK. They've been buying up property, investing and letting for a while now. The USA are finally handling it. Do you suppose our government will?

EmeraldRoulette · 13/01/2026 23:17

@justasking111 you mean Blackrock right? (there could easily be a different company that I don't know about)

This is interesting. I object to the mayor of New York saying that distressed properties can only be sold to certain parties - so I should think the same free market principle should apply to banks being allowed to buy. In theory...There's a conundrum.

I'm not sure if this thing proposed by New York actually went through. Maybe it's just something that's on the table atm.

editing to add - new earworm - John Mellencamp "pink houses". That's a nice range of music I've had today 😊

Hello 👋 This thread just popped up. Excellent.. It’s good to see that many others think along the same lines. I actually can’t believe this shit heap of a non governing government have only been ‘in charge’ for 18months. My stomach turns (literally) when I think about the damage they could wreak in their remaining time.

Still at least the conservatives are up in the polls, and Labour - and inevitably Reform, are down. When Kemi is PM she can reverse this deluded Labour governments’ embarrassingly incoherent legacy.

Nice to get that off my chest before bed..!

No, it’s Blackstone - as in Schwarzman.

Does anyone believe Starmer's assurances that the security risks of the proposed Chinese embassy have been fully considered, and everything is just fine?

strawberrybubblegum · 14/01/2026 07:36

I mean, he might even have an email from Beijing saying "Of course we commit to not touching your telecoms cables when we dig up the wall beside them. We'll put everything back exactly the way it was"

That should be enough for anyone, right?

Januaryescape · 14/01/2026 07:37

Ha no! But hey, Labour are doing well enough to have the SNP extend their flagship ‘free’ breakfast policy.

i think the ignoring of the considered views is more the problem. Listening to R4 earlier this morning questions in parliament yesterday on this were being answered by the Planning Minister even though the Security Minister was also sat on the front bench.

DancingFerret · 14/01/2026 09:15

Checking in. Thank you, @TheNuthatch.

EasternStandard · 14/01/2026 09:18

Listening to More or Less, Sir David Spiegelhalter is pretty cutting on the Covid enquiry report on modelling and the lack of statistical analysis or understanding. Pretty bad for the millions it’s costing.

TheNuthatch · 14/01/2026 09:25

Good morning Smile

Welcome to the thread @peacefulpeach and @Januaryescape. Great to have you on board.

I'm still smiling after Starmer's 13th u-turn. Thats one every 6 weeks since this shower took office.

Looking forward to PMQs later.

Oh I’ve name changed away from my Christmas one. I’m enjoying walking around my mansion flat this morning…

That's shocking. Treating this as a suburban kitchen extension...
