Think Tony Benn serving under Callaghan. Bevan under Attlee. Michael Meacher under Tony Blair. It actually wouldn't be hard to have framed this kind of agenda as a kind of softly softly Leftism for leaner times. In actuality, the Left has been consciously and purposely alienated, and the policy mix hasn't been framed as anything at all: just a series of disjointed, haphazard decisions; an accidental and reluctant patchwork.."
