I would also like to cite multiple sightings of the use of ‘sight’ instead of ‘cite’ from posters who reckon they are the next Marina Hyde. Grin
But don’t call them Thick.

Eta MN little face. Irony not lost……

Oh dear, I appear to have lost the ability to snark effectively this evening. I’ll get my coat Blush

DuncinToffee · 28/11/2025 21:00

This is amazing

Australia just recorded zero cervical cancer cases in women under 25 for the first time since records began in 1982. The amazing result of HPV vaccination.

That’s great news @DuncinToffee

The budget has brought out the worst on here. The scrounger rhetoric really has worked.

Edited

Marina Hyde has just disappointed me. What’s wrong with her? Starmer isn’t ‘surviving’ he’s the leader of a party with a massive majority.

BIossomtoes · 28/11/2025 21:21

I’ve noticed that too @Saucery. Mind you there’s always plenty of phonetic spelling around these parts - wearing high heals is one of my favourites.

BestIsWest · 28/11/2025 21:40

Surely that Times story has to be tongue in cheek. No one can be that dim.

Noted more in the context of the unfolding clusterf*ck that is YourParty (which may rename itself this weekend at conference to For The Many, or Our Party), but applicable to recent post budget fallout

https://nitter.net/DespoticInroad/status/1994010148302360618#m

"..If you'd said in 2020 that in 5yrs there'd be a LAB gov. with this programme then you would assume the Left would somehow be inside the tent, pissing out:
👉£66BN in extra taxes, largely on employers, to pump into services/welfare
👉VAT on private schools/non-doms ended/"Mansion Tax"
👉changed fiscal rule to allow £100BN extra capital spending
👉nationalised railways
👉steelworks nationalised & some public contracts for domestic producers
👉state energy company + National Wealth Fund investing in renewable generation projects
👉No new North Sea extraction licenses
👉Industrial Strategy Council established
👉Green Book re-write to privilege non-London investment
👉Palestine recognised + Israel arms embargo (excepting multinationally-agreed spare parts contracts)

Think Tony Benn serving under Callaghan. Bevan under Attlee. Michael Meacher under Tony Blair. It actually wouldn't be hard to have framed this kind of agenda as a kind of softly softly Leftism for leaner times. In actuality, the Left has been consciously and purposely alienated, and the policy mix hasn't been framed as anything at all: just a series of disjointed, haphazard decisions; an accidental and reluctant patchwork.."

Karistyleaftea · 29/11/2025 08:27

The Tories have proved conclusively that they are not able to govern.
The idea that Reform are able to govern is beyond ridiculous.
Lib dems are not there yet.
It would make much more sense for the media to support our present government who are doing much better that the press would have us believe.
In my opinion.

Thanks for the new thread Duncin and the news about the success of the HPV vaccination.

Sorry, I sense "AI" again.

Another Janes law.: All media stories presumed to be "AI" unless separately corroborated.

Which means I get 90% of my online life back.

I have no idea why people arse about with AI cat creations when you could just have a real one.

I used to work for a bank Head Office. I remember one occasion when a senior manager from a very affluent background and no kids said that surely everyone uses all their ISA allowance every year. The two of us in the room just looked at him and said in unison "I can't do that and I'm well paid". He was utterly shocked. As we're we.
