So under Badenoch's Christian utopia there would be no welfare & no state (no Armed Forces, no NHS, no passport office, no education, no DVLA, no justice system). Presumably no Church of England either.

Explains a lot about the last decade and a half.

BIossomtoes · 28/11/2025 12:27

Really? I think they might.

I suspect people who vote reform, and then get shafted by reform are much more likely to fall for a narrative that the failure of reform to improve their lot is because of asylum seekers/immigrants/net zero/ECHR/RoSPA/ITV/JFK/LHR or any other nonsense.

Why, only today I ready a piece by a Brexiteer who said the only reason Brexit hasn't been a roaring success is because Jeremy Corbyn spooked the marklets 2015-2019.

I am glad I cam closer to the grave than the crib. It's raises my chance of dying with some shred of belief in humanity left intact.

BIossomtoes · 28/11/2025 13:54

I think that would be quite a hard argument to win in that part of County Durham.

placemats · 28/11/2025 13:57

Today on this site, I have discovered why Mumsnet removed the laugh emoji and I'm horrified.

Some very nasty people on here - as if we didn't already know.

I hear you @SerendipityJane and agree that Reform will not lose votes in Durham.

Notonthestairs · 28/11/2025 14:06

Have to say I agree with Serendipity.
When you already have a hany narrative thats you can roll out for any circumstance (immigrants/SN kids) why wouldn't you blame them again for this?

BIossomtoes · 28/11/2025 14:10

Perhaps I’m crediting people with too much intelligence. It wouldn’t be the first time.

placemats · 28/11/2025 14:13

The easy way in life is to see the good in people, unfortunately it doesn't quite work like that in reality. So whilst I do applaud your optimism @BIossomtoes, I also, with a heavy heart, think you are mistaken.

PickAChew · 28/11/2025 14:14

She'll put her back out, reaching that far.

What, that asylum seekers are to blame ?

PickAChew · 28/11/2025 14:19

Aye. Those bloody leopards, eh?

SerendipityJane · 28/11/2025 14:20

Brexit.

All right, don’t rub it in!

And, specifically in Durham, students. It's the students' fault that the Libdems and greens held on in the Durham City wards.

placemats · 28/11/2025 14:27

Aye, those pesky students coming to our City and contributing nothing to the economy.

Suggestion for new title: Starmer 6/7 - the kids started it!

Aye, those pesky students coming to our City and contributing nothing to the economy.

I wonder how the money making factories (cunningly disguised as "universities") will face the possibility that a Reform authority in their parish could lead to a massive loss of turnover (plus increased costs) ?

As we have seen from Brexit, just an onslaught of project fear - coupled with teh reform distrust of learning in general - is more than enough to counter the warnings of losing money.

@BIossomtoes - Remember that every Reform voter secretly (or not so secretly) knows that they would be Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk by now, if it weren't for trans vegan asylum seekers; and that education is next to witchcraft (given their average level of literacy).

Whatever it is, can it be in Welsh ? Or (even better) Esperanto ?

placemats · 28/11/2025 15:01

Sadly the first month of Samhain ends this Sunday.

A sort of vague translation of that would be Starmer: chwech/saith - dechreuodd y plant ei

I am here for the Welsh version, and if in a future thread a Dutch version is ever appropriate I will be happy to provide.

cardibach · 28/11/2025 15:31

Mind, my Welsh is both learner and rusty due to moving to the south east of Wales, so may be worth asking someone more mamiaith (mother language) to check!

I have hidden about 17-20 threads since the budget. There is lots of viciousness, snarling and attempts to justify vile abuse.

SerendipityJane · 28/11/2025 15:44

I'll happily work in any language people choose. यहां तक कि ऐसी भाषाएं भी जो लैटिन वर्णमाला का उपयोग नहीं करतीं

After all, what's the point of being afflicted with woke liberal tendencies, if you can't lean into it now and then.

First time I visited Notre Dame, the guide gave the tour in at least 5 languages. But not in 5 separate chunks, as the English words were interspersed with the other languages. It would plus difficile scrivere aber gemacht sense 😀

Obviously if in Cymraeg the oblique reference will be lost to the fans of Archangel Badenoch. NB: the Archangel is not Michael.
