Excellent news @BIWI and as you say what a relief

Karistyleaftea · 27/11/2025 18:06

That is very good to hear @biwi.

dontcallmelen · 27/11/2025 18:13

very true Jane & everything bad that has ever happened since time immemorial is all labours fault & always will be Yy I’ve never actually heard a brexiteer say it was a bad idea.

SerendipityJane · 27/11/2025 18:15

Quite aside from the price of everything, is the ongoing dismal paucity of what is on offer. Empty shelves and no matter which online supermarket I use, they are permanently out of stock of something other.

A Polish friend of DFs who settled here in the 90s said to DB recently that was how Polish TV showed western shops in the 70s.

BIWI · 27/11/2025 18:16

As well as expressing my thanks for all your good wishes, I also have to give a massive shout out to the NHS.

DH had an accident at home (a fall) on 3 August. Trip to A&E revealed a brain issue - not related to the fall, so just a complete, and fortunate, coincidence. CT and MRI scans, then cerebral angiograms followed, and now treatment is complete. (There will be a follow-up in 6 months or so, but otherwise that should be it)

Without exception, the people we have dealt with throughout this process have been helpful, courteous and friendly - despite evidently being busy.

We are so very lucky to have it - even if it is currently underfunded and under pressure.

I see a new thread has appeared with our millennial circumnavigating chum leaping to keep the waters muddy

countrygirl99 · 27/11/2025 18:20

@BIWI that is so lucky. Similar happened to a friend of mine. She fell off her horse and had some pretty bad injuries but they found a cancer that had been symptomless but had already reached stage 3 and she's now being treated for that.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/11/2025 18:22

I will second that @BIWI I’ve had 5 admissions in the last 18 months and without exception the staff have been fantastic. It’s not been without issues but the staff have been excellent even when sorting those issues.

BIWI · 27/11/2025 17:11

DH’s surgery went well, btw, and he’s now in recovery in the Neuro ICU. May be discharged as early as tomorrow - but I suspect more likely to be Saturday.

What a relief.

Great news. So glad to hear. You must be so relieved.

BIWI · 27/11/2025 18:29

I am. The waiting this morning was awful.

Also happened to my best friend's DH. He was refereeing a fencing match and got clonked on the head by a competitor with more passion than skill. Came home, the headache wouldn't quit so got checked out. Found to have a tumor on his pituitary. That was in 2001, he's still here.

BIossomtoes · 27/11/2025 18:44

So pleased to read all went well @BIWI. What a stressful day you’ve had. Our recent experience of the NHS was the same. We’re so lucky to have it.

Howtoaccept · 27/11/2025 19:04

Brilliant @BIWI and I can’t thank the NHS staff enough either. There’s a lot wrong with organisation etc but at the frontline almost all are great.

dontcallmelen · 27/11/2025 19:05

@BIossomtoes hope Dh recovery is now going well 💐
another who has had recent excellent response from the GP & hospital Ds was put on two week pathway, CT scan within three days results by day five wasn’t lung cancer diagnosed with emphysema has a respiratory clinic appointment next week very lucky we have the NHS.

PandoraSocks · 27/11/2025 19:09

@BIWI very glad it all went well.

On the immigrations stats

https://bsky.app/profile/jamesrball.com/post/3m6mt6iiryk2z

The number of British citizens emigrating hasn’t increased, btw. Outward migration is up, but the increase is mostly non-EU migrants leaving the UK.

The methodology counting emigration of British citizens changed in 2021, which increased the number, and it’s been pretty much flat ever since…

I say this mostly because Reform and certain journalists friendly to them seem determined to start a “white flight” narrative since net migration has dropped so dramatically.

It’s not true. It’s not even close to true.

Very interesting.

The white flight narrative is certainly the spin used by some on MN.

BIossomtoes · 27/11/2025 20:22

Thanks @dontcallmelen. We’re still waiting for the results of the last MRI to see if they got all the cancer in the surgery he had last month. I’ll report back when we know.

Very interesting immigration figures - why isn’t the government shouting those from the rooftops?

Bit of a strange article.

Labour made the concession to progress it, reducing it from 2 years to 6 months instead or 1 day.

Lots and lots of 'concern' about lifting children out of poverty = 'feckless parents' squandering their 'handouts' and having loads of additional children esp immigrant parents who have larger families. Ugh

It's worse than yesterday

Don't forget some of the terminology used. I reported a post referring to "serial breeders" but it wasn't deleted.

I have done the same to no avail
