Asked my mother who is first language Welsh and she said that’s pretty sound @cardibach. She would say ‘e’ rather than ‘ei’ but says that’s probably a colloquialism. She speaks a local dialect and it often varies a lot from the formal.

The only misleading I can recall is from the media self abusing itself into a frenzy about what it imagined in it's collective sewer mind.

Badenoch to Nick Robinson (Political Thinking podcast)

"The budget is unchristian because in early Christian times there was no state or welfare"

There were no computers for her to hack into either.

Just having the impulse to hack another MPs webpage is bloody weird isn’t it?
I guess some types might find it funny. It just isn’t the sort of thing that would ever occur to me as either sensible or appropriate.
Tory bantz!

DuncinToffee · 28/11/2025 17:43

I am only going to use Welsh in the title with approval from the Welsh posters 😬

I will only mess it up otherwise

I reckon if @BestIsWest‘s mum gives her approval it’s pretty safe.

I cannot for the life of me understand how she can justify what she did. She's not fit for public office.

My Cymraeg is intermediate level but in north Wales sentences are constructed slightly differently. Google Translate shows the same translation with either e/ei so it looks like both would be considered correct. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

My translation tool said :

Starmer: 6/7 the children started it

and

Starmer:the children started at 6/7

But I bow to experts 😀

BestIsWest · 28/11/2025 18:59

FWIW my tutor rates ChatGPT for Welsh translation. I haven’t tried it but you can give it regions.

N
igel Farage could have strangled this story at birth. Confronted with the testimony of more than 20 former schoolmates, who shared with the Guardian their memories of a young Farage taunting Jews and other minorities in the most appalling terms – telling a Jewish pupil that “Hitler was right”, singing “Gas ’em all” and making a hissing sound to simulate lethal gas – he could have said: “I have no memory of what’s been described, but such behaviour would of course have been atrocious and if I was involved in any way, I am genuinely sorry.”

Antisemitism allegations against the teenage Farage matter – look at what he went on to do | Jonathan Freedland

Farage has cosied up to US figures who espoused conspiracy theories about Jews. That kind of talk is becoming alarmingly mainstream on the Maga right, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

I love how dialectical Welsh still is! There’s no one translation of anything really but hooray for my rusty Welsh!

youve all been busy today. I left home at 4.30am this morning and not long in so had a quick read.

Still flabbergasted at Badenoch claiming that helping the poor is unchristian. 🫣🤣

MN and SM generally as well as the RW press are completely bonkers atm. I have never hidden so many MN threads. All of them spouting the same ill-informed crap.

I genuinely think they are all gutted the UK has not been plunged into financial turmoil.

Google tells me that £4k in 1970 is equivalent to C£80k in 2025.

pretty good deal that the other £1.2 mil will cost her about £2500 a year!

Easily rectified with 5 spare bedrooms to rent out!
