BBC is caving in to Trump

BBC director general Tim Davie and CEO of News Deborah Turness resign following criticism that a BBC Panorama documentary misled viewers by editing a speech by US President Donald Trump.

Who dug this up in the first place? Was it the Telegraph?

Yes

In fairness, they did edit two bits together. The argument is around whether that materially altered perception of the speech. I’d say it didn’t. We all know what he meant.

PandoraSocks · 09/11/2025 18:48

Surprise! The Beeb might have edited the speech, but people were watching in real time that day and heard what Trump said. It was clear what he was trying to do.

PandoraSocks · 09/11/2025 18:48

Cross post Cardi!

PandoraSocks · 09/11/2025 18:57

It is a shame that there has never been as much fuss about the BBC endlessly platforming Farage since about 2015.

Bikers are well known around here for their community acts. They will attend funerals for families too.

Another group often misjudged and mis represented.

And just after I posted this I saw a SM post saying how 2000 turned up to our naval tribute today and it’s not even been mentioned in the news!

Edited

I was certainly there in real time via Twitter before it got ugly. Had an early breakfast at 3am.

Evenstar · 09/11/2025 19:02

I took part in the Act of Remembrance at church with our smallest Sunday School children this morning as I was on duty today. They were so good, even the youngest who is only just 4 stood quietly and listened so attentively when we explained beforehand about what Remembrance was about and the two minute silence.

Howtoaccept · 09/11/2025 19:05

So heartening to hear about the silence observation.

The BBC has acted very badly in a number of instances. However any read through the Times and you know the BBC must be doing something right to garner the level of ferocious attacks it puts out daily.

I was watching it unfolding as well and posting on the Trump thread.

The editing afterwards did not change what Trump said.

They do an easter egg run up here, every year, delivering to children in hospital.

Quite. He's saying there needs to be a wholesale change at the beeb. I'm sorry, Nige, but if there was they wouldn't be giving you and your entourage nearly as much uncritical attention.

placemats · 09/11/2025 21:24

Watching Trespasses. No wonder flag shaggers get me annoyed. I came to England to escape that.

Celtic football supporters lasted 10 seconds. It’s a point of contention between me and DH.

I've no idea what you're talking about.

PandoraSocks · 09/11/2025 22:10

I am guessing Derxa means the minute's silence at the Celtic match today, which wasn't observed by some of the fans.

Eta: thanks for the reminder @placemats ,I really want to watch Trespasses.

Yes, the shot of the road with all the flags was kind of revealing.

Sadly, you have to pay to listen.

I am not sure why, but I don't warm to Polanski. I agree with him politically on lots of things, but there is something about him I don't like.

DuncinToffee · 10/11/2025 09:53

He was on the Last Leg and I kind of switched off when he talked.

I have woken up with a bad cold and am running out of tissues.

I didn’t listen to it, reading is free. I feel the same about Polanski but I think I’m biased because I really rate Carla Denyer.

I can't seem to read it, either! Not without signing up. Might try later.

Funny that we all feel a bit lukewarm about ZP.

@DuncinToffee poor you. I hope you manage to get hold of more tissues!🤧
