And yet they constantly criticise tax rises - how else do they think defence is going to be paid for? And of course there’s this from 2021:

The Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, announced on March 22 that the army will be reduced to 72,500 by 2025. This is set out in the Defence in a Competitive Age command paper.

This means the existing target of 82,000 personnel, set in 2015, has been scrapped.

By making sure disabled people aren't allowed to lease anything other than a three wheeler car?

I get a Telegraph email everyday because I once signed for a week's worth of free access. I haven't unsubscribed because the relentless doom mongering is often amusing. One of today's offerings:

It’s a sobering way to start the day, with a review revealing the true extent of Britain’s inability to defend itself against an invasion. A declining military headcount and severe financial turbulence mean the Armed Forces are underequipped to deal with growing foreign threats. Tom Cotterill, our Defence Editor, reports.

This sounds like yet another attempt to punch a hole in taxpayer cash below which the corporate blob can drink a deep fill.

The sheer logistics of invading Britain mean there is only one way it can be done. All else is froth. Any invader will have to capture and neutralise the government. That's all they have ever had to do. And it's worked twice in the last 1000 years.

Britain is hardly going to be suddenly surprised by 1,000,000 troops that appear from nowhere.

Also, as we know, it's cheaper to buy British infrastructure and run it into the ground than boots on the ground.

Maybe put disabled people on the front line. Solve two problems with one bullet.

I read that out to my DH and he 🤣

The flag shaggers should do the patriotic thing. Articles that bemoan the loss of army personnel is a prelude to the reintroduction of national service.

Yes we seem to be for sale; invasion is unnecessary

Has anyone had snow today (not the Tommy Robinson sort 😄)?

Yep. About an inch of it and it's wet and slushy already. Just enough to cause rush hour gridlock, though.

If we hadn’t sold off the majority of our assets imitating spivs hawking the family silver we would be a whole lot better off than we are.
yy all those patriots really should be first in the queue for recruitment.

dontcallmelen · 19/11/2025 10:34

It’s even cold here in London currently three degrees & sleeting.

PickAChew · 19/11/2025 10:35

When I looked a5 the weather earlier it said 5, feels like -3. That’s just spiteful. 5 is cold enough without pretending to be worse! My heating has been on for almost 2 hours and the liv8ng room isn’t yet 18. This is not a liveable temperature.
I hate the cold and don't do well mentally when it’s chilly.

DuncinToffee · 19/11/2025 11:28

It's always nice to see a happy derxa

Snow has stopped, sun is out now. Still cold but the house is a nice temperature.

Same here, Cardi. The heating has been on since eightish and only just got to 18.

BestIsWest · 19/11/2025 11:36

It’s cold here. Just back from a very bitterly cold dog walk. I’m in the yellow snow and ice warning zone for the Pembrokeshire Dangler taking it with a pinch of salt as we hardly ever get snow in Swansea. At least it’s been a good few years since we had some.

cardibach · 19/11/2025 11:55

You don’t want to be having yellow snow @BestIsWest <puerile snigger>
Makes me laugh every year. I’m driving up to Swansea later so keeping an eye, but the Met Office doesn’t seem concerned.

I made the same joke to a work colleague in Cumbria about 30 minutes ago.
Great minds eh! 🤣🤣

dontcallmelen · 19/11/2025 12:01

Heating been on here since 6.30am house only now starting to feel warm bloody glad can afford to have it on feel for those who can’t, am the same Cardi I don’t function well when it’s cold it’s a full time job trying to keep this house reasonably warm I don’t think the beta blockers help always got practically blue hands & feet even in warm weather.

pointythings · 19/11/2025 12:02

Cold, wet and dreary here. Heavy rain and sleet caused havoc on the roads this morning, I am not far from @blossomtoes and we had a lot of people very late for an all day training event who were coming from that direction.

Heated throw. Game changer.
Only downside is it becomes impossible to get from under the bloody thing…

placemats · 19/11/2025 12:06

Great news for Scotland and Ireland gets into the qualifying. My mum and uncle were born in Scotland. Happy for you @derxa

Bright and breezy here washing on the line. Off to the recycling centre again 😀
