I think it’s just me but I think Mahmood is doing an a star job. She has previously shown some real toughness and skill in taking on perceived liberal orthodoxy and getting a successful policy and a political win.

I agree that this will be adjusted and some of it has been uprated for concessions later. Intelligent political thinking therefore.

Our Home Secretary is something of a political star. She seems genuinely brilliant to me in terms of handling these challenges that people throw at her. I admire her style even more after this debate.

I agree with this, she is very good. She has a presence that other frontbenchers lack. It it is just a shame that her current policies are not what, IMHO, the Labour party should be about.

Preparing for 2026

Nice summary 😅

DuncinToffee · 18/11/2025 09:05

It's cold out today, brrr

This from Ian Dunts sums up my feelings

Coverage of the refugee proposals demonstrates why we have such a broken political system. Endless focus on left-wing anger and right-wing support. Basically nothing on whether the reforms will work. They will not, which is why we'll still be here having the same debate in three years.

Newsnight, Laila Cunningham can get to fuck. How dare she use the trauma of abused women and children to further her racist agenda, and then to claim other parties don't support women and children.

It was like the worst of mnet. She should be ashamed.

I looked up last night;s appearance, completely agree with you.

She has form as my search showed up a similar clash she had last month.

Obviously this would go unnoticed in the threads "about" the BBC-Trump kerfuffle, but posters here are less dim

An interesting suggestion that the BBC could possibly outsmart Trump and regain the initiative (by applying to a UK court for a Declaration of fact.). This would mean that with a case before a UK court, a US court would stay action.

This case will have to go to court because the BBC charter (as pointed out by DAG upthread, if I recall correctly) doesn't allow them to just pay out without oversight.

Today's 'obsessed with Reform'

The stupidity of Farage’s latest ‘plan’ is staggering.
Claiming they’d save British taxpayers money by ripping up international commitments and starting a trade war with Europe is the puerile foot-stamp of a party that uses prejudice as policy. Ruinous nonsense.

On the subject of the BBC I came across this fab ad from 1985 on Facebook. People should think on x and the BBC does far more now than it did then (had to hunt it down on YouTube because I couldn’t get the Fb link to work here)

I'm not that impressed. Why does the government get to say what you can - and cannot - do with your own property ? You would have thought the reformistas would have been all over this.

If a band or artist really wanted to prevent ticket resale then there are already mechanisms in place. Having seen them twice in very efficient operation at gigs over 8 years ago.

Of course the industries dirty little secret is that for all their supposed "status" artists like Taylor Swift are pawns to their management and that is that.

That being said, I've probably seen all he best music anyway 😎

DuncinToffee · 18/11/2025 11:02

What attracts people to Reform 🤔

Reform’s £25bn p/a savings plan. A theme emerges:

  • ending foreign aid
  • increase immigration health surcharge paid by foreigners
  • deport foreign criminals
  • end UC payments to foreign nationals

Tiny Tommy is happy with the immigration proposals and tells ‘patriots’ they did a good job getting this.
Says it all 😞

Ah, we are back. X going down whilst the release the Epstein files vote is going on was too good to be true.

Tommeh will jump on any bandwagon, don't give him attention.
