How many houses have you lived in?

We were discussing my brothers new house this weekend, he is in his 50's and is just about to move into his 17th house, he has lived in a few different countries on 4 different continents.

By contrast my sister who is 60 has lived in 2, our childhood home and the one she bought with her DH when they married.

I'm the oldest and have lived in 8 houses but all within 30 miles of each other.

My brother has moved around for work and has certainly had more life adventures than me or my sister.

Just being nosey wondering how far others have moved from home, how many times and has it enhanced your life?

33, but I was a RAF child and a Army wife, didn't live in my own house till 7 years ago. All the rest were service housing.

Maggiesgirl · 16/05/2023 10:49

trulyunruly01 · 16/05/2023 10:50

orangegato · 16/05/2023 10:51

4 student residences plus 2 family homes plus 1 of my own! Hoping it’ll be 8 in the not too distant future.

Daisythecat15 · 16/05/2023 10:51

I've lived in 11. I'm 32.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/05/2023 10:52

Do you mean since birth?
In which case I've lived in 13. I'm.in my mid 50s

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 16/05/2023 10:52

8

JuneShitfield · 16/05/2023 10:52

Being pedantic, one — my parents’ house.

If we count flats too, 12. (I’ve lived in city centres most of my adult life and I’m not a millionaire so flats it is.)

mindutopia · 16/05/2023 10:53

I'm early 40s and I'm in my 19th house, but that's not counting uni or random places I lived for only a couple months (or work, for example) and a few places I lived more than once but only counted them one time (for example, lived with a boyfriend while looking for a flat, moved to flat for a year, then moved back in to live with boyfriend). I've lived in 4 countries and currently live about an 8 hour flight from where I grew up.

trulyunruly01 · 16/05/2023 10:53

My first 5 were all in the same area I was born in. This 'last' one is 60 miles away from there in the countryside.
I kind of always knew I'd end up living in this area though. We used to come down this way on holidays when I was a child and, had my parents lived, they would have ended up living here too.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 16/05/2023 10:53

3 houses and a flat, all within a mile’s radius!
Childhood home till I left at 21
flat for 5 years
house for 25 years
current house for 2 years with no plans to ever move

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 16/05/2023 10:55

I'm 49 and it's 7
Childhood home
First flat with a BF
First home of my own
2nd bought with ex H
Renting off mate when separated
Bought again and lived with DD
Met DH and bought my forever home

InvincibleInvisibility · 16/05/2023 10:55

16 (4 houses, 12 flats)
4 countries
10 towns/cities
(I'm 40)

I spent my childhood in 1 place then moved around after I turned 18 for my studies and then work and because it's fun!

Has definitely given me a broader experience than family who've lived in the same town all their lives.

devildeepbluesea · 16/05/2023 10:56

20 since birth and including student halls and digs. I was pretty transient in my 20s.

gogohmm · 16/05/2023 10:56

15, includes 2 student accommodations and rentals at various times.

Davros · 16/05/2023 10:56
  1. I'm 63. One was for 25 years though
mast0650 · 16/05/2023 10:57

Excluding student accommodation then 10. That was 6 with my parents, 1 flat share, 3 as an adult (I'm 50). Plus another 6 student places, as an undergraduate and graduate.

As a child I lived in Birmingham, Cheshire, Hampshire. As a student/adult in Oxfordshire, London and California. My kids have always lived in Oxfordshire.

I've lived in our current house for nearly 18 years and plan to stay until it really starts to feel too much and we/I downsize. Having moved around quite a lot as a child. I really appreciate the benefits of having a long term home in one place.

Ostryga · 16/05/2023 10:58

I moved out when I was 15, and since then lived in 10 places over 13 years.

Managed by some miracle to buy current house when pregnant with Dd and have been here for 6 years now. The feeling of being settled and secure is one I longed for. Won’t be moving again for a very long time!

2chocolateoranges · 16/05/2023 10:58

Only 2 for me, my childhood home and the house dh and i bought when we got married.

TattiePants · 16/05/2023 10:58

5 until I went to uni, 3 at uni and 4 as an adult.

gogohmm · 16/05/2023 10:59

My eldest had lived in 7 places by 8 years old, 11 at 24.

Eyesopenwideawake · 16/05/2023 10:59
