How many houses have you lived in?

We were discussing my brothers new house this weekend, he is in his 50's and is just about to move into his 17th house, he has lived in a few different countries on 4 different continents.

By contrast my sister who is 60 has lived in 2, our childhood home and the one she bought with her DH when they married.

I'm the oldest and have lived in 8 houses but all within 30 miles of each other.

My brother has moved around for work and has certainly had more life adventures than me or my sister.

Just being nosey wondering how far others have moved from home, how many times and has it enhanced your life?

Late 40s and it's about 38, I may have missed a few.
Mid teen DC are on their 10th but we've bought now so that should be it until they leave home.

steppemum · 16/05/2023 14:49

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 16/05/2023 14:54

LadyR77 · 16/05/2023 14:57

11, across 4 different countries (UK/Russia/France/USA then back to the UK). I'm 45.

SallyWD · 16/05/2023 15:00

I'm 48 and have lived in 14 houses/flats.

Maggiesgirl · 16/05/2023 15:02

@quietheart yes settled now, although we will move one more time to be near DS as we get more in need of care, probably into a retirement flat so that we are close but DS and DDil don't need to actually care for us.

We have settled the other end of the country from where both DH and I were born (Scotland to Wiltshire).

Most of the houses I lived in with DDad were in the Far East. Singapore in particular.

Loved moving and I'm brilliant at packing 😄

yutu · 16/05/2023 15:06

I have lived in 5 cities in 3 countries

country A 5 houses
country B 15 houses
country C 2

22 in total

AngeloMysterioso · 16/05/2023 15:27

If we’re including uni, 14. I’m 37. Got at least one more to go, probably more like 2 or 3

mondaytosunday · 16/05/2023 15:35
  1. Im not counting the university years when I moved every year or places I just lived in for a few months. I've lived in three countries. I'm 61, and the longest I've lived in a house ever is eight years. My kids are late teens and they've lived in 5 houses for one six the other (as oldest has moved out now).
Framilode · 16/05/2023 15:36

36, including three countries. The house I'm in now I intend to be the last one.

8, 7 of which have been even numbered houses which is funny

That got me thinking about them and six of my eight were even-numbered too, with only one odd number (the eighth one only had a name).

YouNeverSeeTheRealMe · 16/05/2023 15:57

1st - 2 up, 2 down tiny house with parents and 3 brothers
2nd - 3 bed semi, with parents and 2 bothers
1 bedroomed flat, with husband and baby
2 bedroomed town house, with husband and 2 children
Now (32 years here), 3 bedroomed semi, just husband and me.

Wyndam · 16/05/2023 16:02

6 houses, 1 narrowboat and 1 van.

ASGIRC · 16/05/2023 16:37

12, in 2 countries, but not counting digs I lived in while on tour (which ranged from 1 weekers to 2 monthers), as I wouldnt remember all of them anyway.

Hopefully Ive now moved to my forever home! It is future proofed, so I will be staying here unless I win the lottery!

Im 40

Garethkeenansstapler · 16/05/2023 16:40

I just counted, 14. On average I’ve moved every two years. I’m about to move again to house 15 😬 that said, 6 were when I was growing up I’m addicted to moving house) and another 3 are more long term stays with friends and a couple of house shares. Hoping my next house will be for the long haul, I don’t want to move my kids constantly like my mum did to me.

Garethkeenansstapler · 16/05/2023 16:40

*that should be mum addicted to moving house

FrenchFancie · 16/05/2023 17:10

Not counting short term / student type places, 29 but I may have missed one or two. I’m a forces child and I’ve moved around a lot for work as an adult. About to (next week, all being well!) but house number 30!!

VikingLady · 16/05/2023 17:11

16 including various universities. Which is fewer than I thought, actually.

I get bored. I've lived here for over eight years now and I feel imprisoned.

IHeartGeneHunt · 16/05/2023 17:16
  1. I'm 40
Neverinamonthofsundays · 16/05/2023 17:23

2 x childhood homes, flatshare with friend in college, 3 house shares when lived abroad, rented one place with ex and bought house and here ever since so 8 in total.

Lulu1919 · 16/05/2023 17:29

As an adult 1
I'm 55

FlightOfTheProcrastinator · 16/05/2023 17:42

18 houses across three different countries. I’m 41 and have lived in my current house for 15 years.

Although there were awesome things about living in different countries and an exciting new house on average every year and a half, we moved so much when I was young that I had no steady education, extra-curriculars or even friendships.

In one calendar year, I went to four different schools!

It was hard and led me to become an independent loner who has very few long-standing friendships to this day.
