How many houses have you lived in?

We were discussing my brothers new house this weekend, he is in his 50's and is just about to move into his 17th house, he has lived in a few different countries on 4 different continents.

By contrast my sister who is 60 has lived in 2, our childhood home and the one she bought with her DH when they married.

I'm the oldest and have lived in 8 houses but all within 30 miles of each other.

My brother has moved around for work and has certainly had more life adventures than me or my sister.

Just being nosey wondering how far others have moved from home, how many times and has it enhanced your life?

As a child - 2
Moved house when very small as a family. We did move out for about 2-3 months to another place whilst our council house was remodernised, but don't count that one - have no real memory of it tbh.

Over university years - 6
Had to move house mid first year as owner sold the one we were in! Second year I lived in one house for first half of year, then moved into a hospital halls type place for work experience for several months.
Then, moved into halls in year 3 and a house in Year 4.

Since then - 5
Recanted flat for a couple of years, bought first house, moved into another rental flat during wait for a new apartment being finished after selling first house. Then city centre apartment we bought, then finally house we now live in - been here 18 years.

5 houses, 3 flats and 2 student halls. In 2 countries but I moved between the countries more than once. Contemplating another move in the next couple of years, maybe internationally. Zero desire to live in the boring suburban town where I grew up - currently live in a nearby city but I’m not too fussed about staying nearby. I’m 28.

Loadofoldshart · 16/05/2023 19:45

in my 10th since birth - I’m 38

AudHvamm · 16/05/2023 19:48

Late 30s

0-18: Five, all in different continents/countries/counties

18-present: Eleven across 2 UK cities

Think it has made me both adaptable and meant I seek stability and a sense of place-based identity.

I've only lived in 2. First being the family home living with parents from birth (28 years) and the second being our "forever home" which we'd spent years saving for and bought just before we married (30 years). Just think of all the money we've by not moving, i.e. solicitors fees, estate agents fees, removals fees, etc!

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/05/2023 20:07

And I'm 50 this year

So almost lived in both the same mount of time

Stabee · 16/05/2023 20:09

22 houses. Moved out at 16. Moved around a lot particularly in the first 15 years.

Wishthiswasntthecase · 16/05/2023 20:17

8 with my parents. 2 as a student. 2 with my partner. Here 13 years the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere. I’m 53

user1947582 · 16/05/2023 20:18

3 and I'm in my 30s. My childhood home, a place we rented when we first got married and now the home we bought. We may/may not upsize one day.

StoatofDisarray · 16/05/2023 20:19

This is my 30 house but my dad moved us around all the time when we were kids. I'd lived in 14 different houses by the time I was 11. I'm 56 now.

I'm in my 6th, dh in his 5th.

2 growing up - returned when ex and I seperated
1 with ex - moved in in my 20th birthday
3 with dh - flat and then moved to a house at 25, moved to our current home just before Christmas last year, we are both 32 now.

We won't be moving again for a long time, this is our family "forever" home, so maybe here for 20/25 years.

Ponderingwindow · 16/05/2023 20:28

12 homes

3 were student housing.

planning to either stay put or move no more than once more between now and the end

AliceMcK · 16/05/2023 20:30

33 I think 🤔 That dosnt include temporary backpacker type places I lived/stayed in when travelling. Also dosnt include houses as a young child, I know my parents lived in a few different houses when I was a baby/young child before buying their first house when I was about 4.yo.

That covers living in 3 different countries, 2 continents and 7 different cities & towns.

AliceMcK · 16/05/2023 20:30

Forgot to say I’m late 40s

Sewingdufus · 16/05/2023 20:41

I’m 50.

11 houses,
7 boarding houses,
2 as a lodger
and 1 hall of residence.

So 21 different places, but 1 of them for nearly all of my adult life!

Whichwhatnow · 16/05/2023 20:42

As a child - five houses, five buses/trucks, one squat, two caravans and one mobile home. Across seven countries.

As an adult - five flats/houses, one squat, three rooms in house share type places, three hostels (long term). Plus a wee bit of sofa surfing/homelessness. Across five countries.
