I do sometimes fancy jam on them but definitely with butter! You can’t eat a crumpet without butter, that’s against the law!

Butter , lots of butter so it melts through the holes and soaks to the bottom . Usually butter by itself , but sometimes jam , lemon curd or honey . If I am in a savoury mood sometimes a slice of Cheshire cheese on very buttery crumpet .

Good Christ, have him arrested. Butter and only butter. Or a scrape of marmite with the butter. That is the crumpet law.
