It is ok to put jam on a crumpet so long as there is twice as much butter as jam.

Butter and honey in similar ratio also good.

For a savory crumpet snack, toast it first then mix half a tsp pesto with a tsp oil and drizzle that all over, then add cheese and grill (little bits of veg of the kinds you might use on pizza may also be added if easily available eg from a handy tub of mixed antipasti)

The correct answer btw is butter and marmite, so much that it leaks out of the bottom and you have a butter marmite puddle to dip your edge bits into.
