And they’re not just for long-haul flights: these comfortable and supportive pillows will serve you just as well on car and train journeys as they will on planes. Users also swear by them for at home naps, duvet days on the sofa and camping trips. You might just discover this is the essential travel accessory you didn’t know you needed.

Here are the best travel pillows to buy in 2022.

The wraparound design also makes it fully adjustable for different neck widths. The Bcozzy is a little chunkier than other foldaway travel pillows, but its built-in snap strap makes it easy to secure to a backpack or suitcase. The Bcozzy comes in both child (S) and adult (M and L) sizes so you can buy one for all the family.

How to choose the best travel pillow

Travel pillows come in different shapes and styles so there are a few things to consider. It’s good to know if you are a back or side sleeper when you’re travelling, as it can influence what shape and material you go for. Some travel pillows are machine washable, which is another useful feature to consider. It's also worth considering what you'll be travelling with, if you need to abide by any luggage restrictions and how you can store the pillow when not in use. This is where inflatable pillows come into their own as they can free up a lot of space when deflated.

Are travel pillows useful?

Many people swear by using a travel pillow for long-haul flights and they can be useful for other occasions too. Whether it’s a long car journey, a camping trip, or even napping on the sofa, a good quality travel pillow will protect your neck from strain and help you get a comfortable sleep.

Are travel pillows machine washable?

Many travel pillows these days are machine washable. Make sure to check the label to see if yours is suitable for machine washing. Pillows containing memory foam cannot be put in the washing machine.

What is the best travel pillow to buy?

When choosing the best overall travel pillow, we considered feedback from Mumsnetters and product reviews. We also examined which pillow offered great neck and chin support, and were a compact size for travelling. We chose the Bcozzy Travel Pillow as the best to buy in 2021.

How we chose our recommendations

Because we know that there’s nothing like a real recommendation from a real parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out which travel pillows discerning Mumsnet users had bought. We compiled a list of travel pillows they recommended, noting how effective they found them, and whether they were particularly good for any certain needs.

We then did some research across the wider web, looking at which travel pillows had won accolades or been featured in ‘best buy’ lists across websites and print media, and what customers’ reviews said about them.

Having collated all that information, we picked the travel pillows we thought would make the best buys in several interest categories.
