ive struggled this week as DH is away and I've found it hard to get any time for myself what with aged dog and young dog plus extra poorly DD

my plan ( having seen myself in shorts) is to do every day next week to try to boost my exercise. I used to do it daily on top of all other yoga/exercise. Bloody hell!

I imagine you’ll feel the benefit of the in person classes quickly. And it’s great to have that incentive of a class.

happytobemrsg · 05/09/2023 09:53

Tried a new class yesterday. Very happy to be in the same row as some other wobbly people! Ended with some candle gazing which was lovely. Thinking about doing YWA tomorrow. Move Day 1 if I’m brave.

I went to a yoga class years ago, way before I started YWA. I hated it! It was so hard & I couldn’t follow any of it. I felt very self conscious. Now I e done a bit of YWA I feel so much more confident & relaxed going to classes.

Pixiedancing · 07/09/2023 11:15

Hi there - can I please join you all? I have recently taken up yoga seriously. I used to do a class here and there and do a pilates class every now and then but now I'm concentrating on Yoga. I'm still very much a beginner and I don't know much about the philosophy or benefits of yoga, but I'm googling! I would love if you could tell me the different types of yoga and what each type helps with?
I've started getting up early to do a you tube class YWA Center which I'm finding good. I also go to a Yin Yoga class once a week for the past couple of weeks and try to fit in one other class - meditation or a flow class or whatever is available. I suffer with anxiety and I'm hoping this helps - do you see the benefits as far as anxiety is concerned? Any other tips you could give me? Thanks x

Rummikub · 07/09/2023 21:50

Hi @Pixiedancing

i have definitely noticed a difference with resilience and anxiety. Esp now I seem to have fallen off the wagon.

Center is a good one I think because of the short length. I think a lot of us loved Move.

Im not sure about the different types of yoga tho.

Annipeck · 09/09/2023 15:51

I'm about to attend my first ever yoga class in about 30 years -- any tips for a nervy, stiff beginner with zero body confidence?

notanicepersonapparently · 09/09/2023 17:30

It may sound shallow but wear something nice. Don’t wear your husband’s gym kit like I did because I hadn’t brought my own.
You might want to di a couple of Yoga with Adrienne videos - perhaps the first couple of days of Move to remind yourself of your down dogs etc

Sooverthemill · 15/09/2023 07:32

I can't believe how long since I posted! Many apologies. I've been trying to do short yoga sessions, had a very extra poorly DD ( she is bedbound always) and a new granddaughter and just too much going on. Kassandra has had my back recently as she does those lovely 10/12 minute ones that I feel I can cope with.@happytobemrsg take care x

Hope you’re doing ok @Sooverthemill & getting support/time for yourself also. I’m doing a little better. I’m very much enjoying the classes although 2 in person classes does feel like an extravagance. I know it’s good for me. Also roped in my sister & SIL who will be joining me today.

Sooverthemill · 19/09/2023 08:24

Good old Kassandra today and I checked my BP before and after! It went down by 10 which is good. I need more yoga

After a horrendous 2 weeks of DD having anaphylaxis multiple times involving hospital and 999 calls plus me needing to go to hospital I’m back! A gentle 10 minutes of yoga with Adrienne today. Hope everyone is well

So sorry to hear about DD and yourself. Sending virtual hugs from my pathetically non yoga place. You popping up reminds me why I need to get back to the mat x

happytobemrsg · 03/10/2023 15:57

Hope you and your DD are doing ok @Sooverthemill

I’m still going to 2 in person class a week (1 hr each) & fitting in a couple of YWA videos when I can (working through Move). I had class yesterday & even though it was cold, dark, rainy & id had a very stressful day at work I still went & felt better for it.

Sooverthemill · 03/10/2023 18:08

Thank you both. DD seems to have developed a new chronic illness to go with the other 4 so it's intensely challenging as I now feel I cannot leave her with anyone but family now as she risks anaphylaxis every day. But taking care of myself remains a priority!

A 5 minute Kassandra stretch one today. All
I could manage after a dreadful nights sleep but wanted to get on the mat

Day 4 of Center for me today. Feeling it’s a strong one when I’ve been off the mat for so long. Probably isnt in real life🙄

yogakeepsmesane · 07/10/2023 16:39

Sorry - newbie here.

What is 'centre'? I normally do Yoga with Kassandra but am after some new material?

Yogachick · 07/10/2023 20:47

@yogakeepsmesane its the most recent of Adriene 30 days. It’s on YouTube x

Sooverthemill · 08/10/2023 10:26

Agh no yoga today just felt too knackered and yet I know that's when I need it most

Yogachick · 08/10/2023 10:34

@Sooverthemill listening to your body is still very yoga x

happytobemrsg · 08/10/2023 16:04

Yup. I find it so hard going to my 8pm Monday class. I get home from work at 7pm & all I want to do is put on my pjs. But I’m forcing myself out because for me at least it’s medicinal. It’s been helping with my terrible tension headaches & I believe the breathing techniques are helping me handle stressful situations at work too. I’ve been listening to the same music from my class during the day as well & it’s triggering a response in my body - it’s making me breathe slower & deeper & block out unhelpful thoughts & noise around me. Honestly, it’s been life changing for me.

Scatternobrains · 12/10/2023 17:36

Please may I join in, although I don't really know what joining would mean, but hopefully it will motivate me?!?

I am 42, my youngest had just gone to uni, so have an empty nest and too much time, I am over weight, stiff, perimenopausal and hurting in my bones, hips and knees. It is time for me to help myself a bit.

The kids being at uni are draining the bank account and we live in the sticks so everything is a fairly long drive away so doing something on line is much better for me.

I tell my clients about YWA a lot, and have tried one or two of her beginners videos, but I am a complete newbie to Yoga myself.

I have just been looking through YWA website and stumbled across Oct 23, and I think there are 34 videos in there. I'm guessing its not like her 30 days yoga where you work through in order, do I just pick one from the list that seems to fit?

Which ones are other people doing, how often, and what time of the day do you squeeze it in?

Looking forward to learning from you guys. :-)

Yogachick · 13/10/2023 07:46

Oct 23 is a calendar, just like the 30 days. The main difference I think is the 30 days build on a theme,so build on the day before’s practice, whereas the monthly calendars are on a theme through the month.

Thanks for the link @Yogachick. I did that one today. I love the outdoor setting too. I’ve not come across Charlie before.

ihatethecold · 19/10/2023 14:06

Im middle aged, peri with a job that means i really do need to take care of myself and yoga has become integral to my morning now.
