Who is going to do Adriene’s 30 day programme January 2021?

I’ve done the last few years and try to do a video most days throughout the year. I like the structure of the 30 days. I think my favourite was Home as the length (short) of the videos suited what I had time for. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

I think Adriene is a fantastic teacher, her online content is amazing.
Personally I have been disappointed with this latest release, but it is just a case of my needs not matching her content.
With so many people looking for online yoga right now it is a hard job finding that balance to deliver a class that will suit everyone.
Some are looking for a class to relax or as a stretch following a 3 mile run, maybe a beginner, or someone who has been doing yoga for 30 years. Some want long deep Yin type yoga, others want quick power dynamic flow, a morning starter, an evening wind down, and everything inbetween.
I have done around half of the latest Breath programme, I scan though the content and decide if is if for me that day.
One of the great things about youtube yoga generally is that we can choose what we need, and match that to our mood, the time we have, our energy.
So I switch between teachers, often go back to older Adriene videos, do what feels good on that day.

Day 23 done, I quite enjoyed it, apart from the waffle at the beginning. I do think this series is definitely 'what it says on the tin'. So much is about the breath, and its connection with moves, as well as demonstrating the strength of breath. Although I don't often feel it's 'enough', I do feel the benefit of slowing down and being forced to take some time to breathe, I do always feel better for doing it. It's almost a meditation, no bad thing at the moment. And I LOVE that she doesn't really talk about what's going on it world, maybe the odd abstract comment, but it feels a true escape from COVID-world.

Magnificentbeast · 24/01/2021 22:22

I enjoyed D22 a lot. It was just what I needed. Although, I couldn't manage the final twist very well at all.

I'm feeling stronger and looser of limb. I also feel much more in sync with the breathing which is good news with me being asthmatic.

OwlLovesTea · 24/01/2021 23:13

Does this course build up strength in the arms?I know she brings in the crow on day 19 or thereabouts? Did yall feel well prepared for that??

I just want to be able to do side planks better and do side star fish (not sure what that is called). I've been doing sean vigue and Adriene here and there and yoga floating school.

What will you all do on 1st February!

drspouse · 24/01/2021 23:15

I'll still be doing this course on the 1st Feb!
I was meaning to ask, actually, what are the other ones that are all new/themed? Is it always the Jan one?

EssentiallyDelighted · 24/01/2021 23:23

I didn't do one today. I fell over on a slippery patch of snow on the garden path and although not properly injured feel a bit bruised and jarred. Will hopefully ease myself back in tomorrow.

Yes, it’s always the January ones. 30 Days; Yoga Camp; Yoga Revolution; True; Dedicate; Home and now Breath. There are curated calendars for the rest of the year as well - there are sometimes brand new videos on Sundays but less so in the last year.
parrotonmyshoulder · 25/01/2021 07:12

I’ll be doing the February calendar, with some favourite videos on the days when the calendar option is too long.

Hoping to get through the year with every day (or almost!). Last year stopped in April when I had an injury and didn’t start up again till mid Autumn.

Sounds painful Essentially, hope you wake up not too stiff from the fall today.

I've just don't day 24.got workman in this morning, so wanted to be done before he arrived. Quite a strong one, after annoying fire breath at the beginning.

Come February, I'm hoping to gear back up into my other exercise, I like Adriene's January yoga, and it's a lovely bit of time to carve out for yourself in a bleak month, but it isn't enough for me, and as could be using the time for more intense work. But I always take a sense of connection with breath and how I stand, my centre of gravity away after these January months.

Redcrayons · 25/01/2021 08:09

Got up early to do day 24. Felt really hard this morning, I’m really achy and stiff as I’m also doing RED January and that’s taking its toll.

I’ve enjoyed the series overall. A little bit too much waffle and I’m not mad keen on all the breathing. But, it’s nice as a community thing and I’ve done lots of new things i haven’t come across before as I tend to stick to my old favorites.
1st Feb is definitely a rest day for me!

NotMyDayJob · 25/01/2021 08:47

I'm all caught up after missing a day when I had to (essential) travel last week. Pondering what to do next, have done yoga for years but always did classes so not very good at deciding for myself

Ietthemeatcake · 25/01/2021 09:10

I much preferred today's to yesterday's. Challenging but good.

Sooverthemill · 25/01/2021 09:31

Another good day though that side plank (?) was a bit tough! Was okay with fire breath as long as I zoned her out as my brain kept trying to match her rhythm which puts me off.

itssquidstella · 25/01/2021 19:18

I enjoyed today's once the fire breathing was over - I just did some neck and arms stretches during that bit.

I totally agree, this is definitely not chiming with what I enjoy in her yoga. I did every day in November and December and enjoyed them apart from one annoying meditation. This is mostly annoying me every day, definitely not looking forward to mat time very much. Am hoping to start enjoying February again. Don’t want to stop daily practice as I worry I wouldn’t start again. Her FB page is full of people who absolutely love the Breath stuff tho’
drspouse · 25/01/2021 19:59

Pilates today so I'm at least 4 or 5 days behind but the next one I'm down to do is only 20 mins so I'll get up early tomorrow.

sycamore54321 · 25/01/2021 21:44

I haven't logged on here in a while. I missed a day last Monday but have been practicing one day behind since then, so I've just completed day 23 I think. Still really liking it. I still sigh and almost resent the more 'breathing' parts but then I do feel better for having done it. The few days of super-short videos were good to rekindle my enjoyment also and the one I've done just now was 30 minutes so ready to return to it.

I agree that it is my previous Adriene experience that means I'm sticking this one out. I think if this was my first time round the block with her, I'd likely have zoned out. I am definitely getting stronger and more flexible, although the quasi-push-ups still completely elude me.

After this one, I think I'll go back to a very very early one of her January series.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/01/2021 22:06

It's first time round the block for me and I'm really enjoying it. Don't have anything to compare to, but I like the breathing, and her emphasis on breath and poses working together.

Was amazed to find I could do the one leg balancing star thing, but unsurprisingly, only managed about 5 seconds in the one armed planks. That's still more than I'd have managed three weeks ago!

drspouse · 26/01/2021 08:22

Day 21 done, though it was so short I still got distracted!

EmmaStone · 26/01/2021 09:04

Day 25 done. I did my normal yoga class last night, which was pretty strong, and although I felt Adrienne had gone some way to help eg hold downward dogs for longer, ultimately it just highlighted that it's really been a little too gentle compared to my normal 'work'. My back felt really tight this morning as well, so I needed to add on some back stretches to help my mobility. Not much to add about today, it was a nice short one, my knees struggled in low lunge and stretching behind to catch my foot, but I managed to hold it for a bit.

I think ultimately, I'm spending most of my day hunched up (I keep catching my shoulders being all crunched up). Which is almost undoing all the good work. I just need a massage 😂.

EssentiallyDelighted · 26/01/2021 09:17

I'm going to get back to it today, I have recovered from my slip on the ice but didn't get round to it yesterday - WFH but it was a sunny day with snow still on the ground so I went for a long walk at lunchtime instead then the evening got away with me.

This is my first time with Adriene, I normally do one or two 90 minute live classes a week (zoom for most of last year) but my teacher is taking a break so this has filled the gap nicely. I am seeing the benefits of (almost) daily short practices versus longer ones further apart.

Talisin · 26/01/2021 12:41

I’m having to self isolate in my bedroom for the next 10 days and there’s no room for yoga Sad so I’m going to have to finish in February I think. I’d managed to keep up this year as well, dammit.

drspouse · 26/01/2021 12:45

When my DH had to do this (before an operation) he used rooms when we weren't in them. Can you do that? Or do yoga on the bed (there are quite a few workouts that you can do,, on YouTube).

Talisin · 26/01/2021 12:50

Some days I’ll be able to use another room but really only late night. I’ll see how it goes. I do have a couple of ‘bed yoga’ routines bookmarked actually but I specifically wanted to finish Breath on time this year. Ah well.
