NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #34

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

I'm waiting in anticipation this morning of a newspaper headline announcing that Potter has 'resigned'. Her position is untenable and questions are being asked in Parliament.

alsoFanOfNaomi · 21/07/2025 10:02

In previous tribunals when they've needed to do judge and advocate legal stuff (as opposed to witnesses) they've often excluded observers. I'll be very interested to hear whether they do or don't do that today! Wish I didn't have so much to do today, expect to spend the evening catching up.

UpDo · 21/07/2025 10:02

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 21/07/2025 10:01

I suspect there will be closed discussions between the judge and the counsel for each side.

Yes, I wouldn't anticipate a prompt start today!

Black screen, we are in the room, the clerk will add the courtroom when they are ready.

The other side of the mountain.

The path is still rocky and theres a risk of sheer drops, exhaustion, injury and attitude sickness.

Enjoy the view though.

I assume that the next stage will be claims of discrimination on basis of gender reassignment because of enforcement of single sex provision.

NHS Fife recruited a Legal Services Manager four years ago. It seems they may by just a paralegal, same level as Isla Bumbla (Grade 7) and report to the Director of nursing…

You can sit down and lose 13 hours at a time playing it, it's that engrossing.

Are you talking about a computer game, or these threads?

I have been up for two hours, I have managed to fit in a quick breakfast, but nothing else. I don't know how many hours I have spent on these threads since Wednesday.

More than likely.

Some of which will probably be upheld. Others will not though.

Reference to Mystic Pete (I wonder if he'll appear today?) in the last thread has given me a Peter Andre earworm.

"Ohhh, mysterious Pete, don't wanna get close to you..." [in the changing room]

I need to pick my blackcurrant bushes today as the birds are circling but the lack of rain here means I can't procrastinate!

The TRAs need to understand that all that male aggression, dead TERFs banners, moob protests, piss protests, threats of violence, aggressive behaviour against female protesters or female only gatherings isn’t winning the argument for them. It has made females fearful and we have pushed back.

No amount of gender reassignment and make up is going to change that inbuilt male aggression and anger that they have.

RocketPanda · 21/07/2025 10:08

By the way I don't know if anyone remembers my little teeny foster puppy back in February that I named Sandy ( after Sandy Peggie). She was only a couple of weeks old, it was touch and go. For some reason MN wouldn't allow us to post pics.
Anyway here she is now.

Person spec for Legal Services Manager (most senior legal bod by the look of it): https://apply.jobs.scot.nhs.uk/Job/GetJobAdvertDocument?Id=304790&JobId=67674

Not doing too well with this bit:

Manage all clinical negligence, employer’s and public liability claims against the NHS in Fife in order to and as appropriate, defend or settle on best possible terms, minimising the effect on the reputation and finances of the organisation, together with the reputation of individual staff.

Good morning you lovely wims, let's see what unfolds today.

BezMills · 21/07/2025 10:09

yeah I expect a lot of discussion before we open.

Big Sond lays doon the law

JR trying no to look beelin angry - you can tell she's flamin at her bamheid clients, but she's here tae dae the job.

NC is unreadable. If anything her expression says 'more in sorrow than in anger' but it's hard to get any read at all. She's got thon magic ring on again. It sits on her right middle finger, dull, weighty, ominous, potent.

Technical question has anyone successfully observed on an iPad?
If so what browser did you use?
thank you

Have you checked out the wild-growing blackberries this year? They are utterly fantastic round here. I'll be out super early tomorrow to gather more.

I picked a load yesterday. Already frozen as it’s too hot to make jam.
