Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

In answer to why, my guess is internalised misogyny and #bekind.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/12/2024 13:44

Sorry I'm probably being dense, which march where please? (I googled but it wasn't obvious to me)

WhoPutTheBomp · 11/12/2024 13:47

It is called UK Women’s March 2025, there's a FB group, and yes, it is all about the men.

It seems to have taken its cue from the US Women's March (and now also People's March) that is all about opposing Trump and is on the same date - 18th January.

Not just a bit of internalised misogyny and #bekind, full blown "protect our trans sisters frum the bigots!!"

Someone posted about the possibility of separate areas for men, as otherwise there was a risk of excluding those women who would feel vulnerable with men there. The possibility has been dismissed, called segregation and it looks like the woman who raised it has been chucked out of the group. They're prioritising men at the expense of women and can't acknowledge why some women could feel unsafe -as that would be acknowledging the reality of sex.

They've also dismissed pussy hats as 'not all women have the same body parts'.

Fucking idiots.

ArabellaScott · 11/12/2024 15:39

The woman who started to group or founded it has said she wanted to 'belt' terfs.

Which is a curious position for someone supposedly organising against VAWG.

No need for the tras to bring their naice barbed wire bats!

Toseland · 11/12/2024 15:49

They are increasingly desperate to control women. I've also seen recently a number of "Reclaim the Night" marches to be led by men disguised as women.

Toseland · 11/12/2024 15:52

Can you imagine the gall of dressing up as any other group of people and leading a march supposedly in their name?!

Chrysanthemum5 · 11/12/2024 15:53

I was on a gender equality committee at work and I asked if we could request the organisation collected data on the correct protected characteristics rather than lumping sec and gender reassignment together under gender. This did not go down well and one of the younger members immediately piped up to say that her priority was protecting trans members of staff and she felt the committee should focus on their needs. Because they are the most marginalised and never consulted about their needs etc.

I'm not sure how long I can bear to be on the committee

ArabellaScott · 11/12/2024 15:57

Is saying overtly that 'terfs' are banned, will be blocked/removed discrimination on the grounds of belief?

ArabellaScott · 11/12/2024 15:59

This is an 'association', isn't it, in the terms of the EA? Large membership.

Can they exclude women on the grounds of their gc belief?

Hmm yes I think so. Good catch, Arabella.

WhoPutTheBomp · 11/12/2024 16:14

yes to an association.

Good catch as to whether they can exclude on grounds of belief.

(I am cooking tea, sorry for expecting my thoughts to be put down magically by my phone without my involvement, shakes phone in annoyance)

I found it and tried to join but the joining questions are now about supporting All Minorities and no transphobia (by which I assume they mean no GC / Sex Realist views).
One of the moderators seems to be called Euphoria so I'm not exactly surprised

Please don’t give up. Every time someone like you steps down, they are replaced with another TRA, until they control the whole show. That is how any special interest group ( tactful) take over and impose their ‘views’.

Glamourreader · 11/12/2024 16:31

Chrysanthemum5 the committee needs you! Remind them that the protected* characteristics are defined *in the equality act and are not ours to pick and choose.

Don’t stand down. Those committees need people who understand the legal framework, understand that there are nine protected characteristics, and understand that there is no legal hierarchy which puts the PC of gender reassignment above the others.

If she’s concerned about her favoured group of staff not being consulted enough then the two different PCs of sex and gender reassignment need to be dealt with separately, to enable the organisation to consult her favoured group of staff.

If she claims her favoured group of staff are more marginalised than everyone else, then express sympathy and concern, and ask her to circulate the evidence she has about the ways in which her favoured group are marginalised, so that the organisation can consider how it can remove the mechanisms which are causing that marginalisation.

IwantToRetire · 11/12/2024 17:34

I suspect that 99.9% of the female population in the UK have not heard about it.

And their twitter account has been deleted, and facebook groups are private.

I am not even sure why anyone bothers to give them attention.

What is more worrying is that very few women are, although it can be done, organising women's marches.

Or in fact supporting women only marches such a Million Women Rise which has fewer and fewer numbers each year.

So long as there is the vaccuum others, for whatever reason will organise mixed events.

So their are two quesions.

Why are so many women who are being "active" want to include men?

Why are so many women who dont want to include men, not being "active".

Recent WRN local actions show that it can be done.
