Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

Not just a bit of internalised misogyny and #bekind, full blown "protect our trans sisters frum the bigots!!"

"non binary folk who face misogyny".

Can't we even suffer misogyny without men/other people wanting to suffer from it too? !!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 11/12/2024 18:28

The Women's March has been pandering to TRAs since the fuss about pussy hats at the first one after Trump's last election.

RaininSummer · 11/12/2024 18:49

Sounds like the sort of march that all actual sensible women need to ignore.

WhoPutTheBomp · 11/12/2024 15:44

No need for the tras to bring their naice barbed wire bats!

So that means if Lucille is invited.
Sounds more like some sort of trans pride march, not a Women's march.

Not welcome: women who disagree with us.

Welcome: men.

That’s a no from me.

ArabellaScott · 11/12/2024 20:28

They seem far more angry at 'terfs' than they do at men committing VAWG.

There's a screenshot on X circulating where one of the organisers says she'd like to "belt the terfs". So they're OK with some VAWG.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 11/12/2024 20:48

Sounds like a march to be ignored and avoided.

I suspect that 99.9% of the female population in the UK have not heard about it.

And their twitter account has been deleted, and facebook groups are private.

I am not even sure why anyone bothers to give them attention.

What is more worrying is that very few women are, although it can be done, organising women's marches.

Or in fact supporting women only marches such a Million Women Rise which has fewer and fewer numbers each year.

So long as there is the vaccuum others, for whatever reason will organise mixed events.

So their are two quesions.

Why are so many women who are being "active" want to include men?

Why are so many women who dont want to include men, not being "active".

Recent WRN local actions show that it can be done.

Because we have seen so many other women physically hurt or intimidated when they do it? Because men have invaded so much we can't know if we are supporting or eroding woman's rights by marching?

I'm an out and vocal terf but I am also a single mum with young children I would never take my kids with me to a march or let women speak despite really wanting to attend myself. Because I can't risk my kids get wrapped up in it witnessing how the men behave when the real woman actually do organise.

A lot of people seem to feel that way...! Works out well for the patriarchy... anyway don't look too deeply into that...!

🙂Hell yes! I want to protect my right to wallow in traditional misogyny as other women before me have done for thousands of years. Bloody TRAs, is there nothing they won’t try to steal from us?

I hate the term 'gender based violence'. Women don't, and have never, faced oppression due to how we identify. It is 100% based on sex and you really can't identify out of it. The concept that throughout all of human history women have been sold, traded, raped, married off and refused basic rights over 'gender identity' is insulting.

Changing it to "gender based" erases the reality of being in a female body in a breathtakingly insulting way. Especially given that "gender" is redefined as anodyne stereotypes and manners of dress and hairstyles.

Gender-based violence makes it sound less bad than the reality that the violence described is overwhelmingly carried out by men on women because they are of the female sex.

In the same way that the term VAWG also makes it sound like random violence happens towards women and girls rather than describing the truth which is that it is MALE violence against women and girls.

These campaigning terms are sanitising the descriptions of the problems for some reason.

  • Is it that the people involved don't like drawing attention to the root of the problems which is male behaviour?
  • Is it that they don't want to risk the chance that an accurate description might alienate men?
  • Is it that, as women, they hate drawing attention to their lack of ability to defend themselves from male violence because of female biology and social status?

Who knows? But I wish they weren't anodyne in naming and shaming the root issue of their campaigning.

Someone on that group at great pains to say they're not protesting against people but against 'systems'. As if the patriarchy is some disembodied force, and the violence committed against women isn't committed by men.

They won't get far actually tackling the issues if they can't even identify who is doing the violence.

Igmum · 12/12/2024 07:55

The women's march is very active on TikTok and seems to be hoping to run numerous parallel events so oh bugger that it's actually about menz feelz.

What is wrong with so many women? They are so eager to sell their own sex down river.

@Chrysanthemum5 please stay on that committee and push for accurate data. My own organisation is equally dire. The result is that if we are ever sued or need to report on our actions we simply won't have accurate figures 🤦‍♀️

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 12/12/2024 07:59

ArabellaScott · 11/12/2024 15:39

The woman who started to group or founded it has said she wanted to 'belt' terfs.

Which is a curious position for someone supposedly organising against VAWG.

FFS

RareMaker · 12/12/2024 08:56

I left the group. Love the idea but it's not just full of men trying to prove they are not part of the problem, but the whole things lost the main point. I don't think they will go ahead anyway. Something is amiss, maybe just organisation.

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 12/12/2024 10:40

I’ve just looked up the march online. First hit was an old one from the Women’s Equality Party, which supported transgenderism and has now collapsed. Second hit was a transgenderist Reddit. Not hopeful.

ChaChaChooey · 12/12/2024 10:41

I’m not in this particular group but from the descriptions on here it reminds me of the one set up in response to the murder of Sarah Everard, supposedly to campaign against VAWG but discussion heavily policed by a mod team that included a male-with-special-gender-identity.

I think I lasted about 36 hours in that one.

fromorbit · 12/12/2024 10:41

Some GCs on twitter are talking about going on the march with pro-women banners and challenging the organisers to force them out.

This resulted in the organisers closing their X account.

This is Terf Island you can't really expect to organise a women's march without women who believe women are real turning up.

ArabellaScott · 12/12/2024 14:06

So they're not on X and FB is private.

This seems to be the one channel that is public: https://www.tiktok.com/@ukwomensmarch

From what I've heard, be careful which posts you like.
