The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

Aye, they seem keen on 'sluts' and 'slutty'.

I've become grimly fascinated. This is what happens when work starts to wind down.

I'm part of the FB group as well, on the grounds that it's always good to know what people are up to and to see if it ends up taken over by TRA types.

I was on a gender equality committee at work and I asked if we could request the organisation collected data on the correct protected characteristics rather than lumping sec and gender reassignment together under gender. This did not go down well and one of the younger members immediately piped up to say that her priority was protecting trans members of staff and she felt the committee should focus on their needs. Because they are the most marginalised and never consulted about their needs etc.

I'm not sure how long I can bear to be on the committee

Stick with it. It took me six years but I managed to get policy changed at an organisation I used to work at. It is soul destroying when you think you are talking to a cross between a brick wall and a swamp made of marshmallow. My ‘favourite’ argument they put forward was that they didn’t think sex was relevant to the organisation’s business. But surely the same could be said about sexual orientation - I don’t NEED to know whether my colleagues are gay or heterosexual in order to work with them (only if I’m wanting to sleep with them) but the organisation was still (rightly) collecting diversity monitoring data on sexual orientation so why not sex?

I am so relieved to see this as I was the organiser for the Edinburgh march but had to step down last night as I was being referred to as a TERF. They did not like the fact that I suggested they can't exclude women who are not behind men being involved and it's focus was becoming all about the trans movement. They were banning women who were wanting to march for the protection of single sex spaces like rape centres and who didn't feel comfortable with men being at the march. I went to a lead meeting where they used the term TERF repeatedly for anybody who disagreed with them. There were women's rights groups wanting to join but they got banned due to their trans stance.
I am all for inclusion but you can't exclude people and call yourself an inclusive group. It was a shambles and I am embarrassed I even got involved. I got made to feel like an a*sehole by them. Other women walked away with me last night too.

I forgot to mention that they would say things like society only had issues with that female boxer with the high level hormones because of how she looked and that men need safe access to abortions as they may need one.

WhoPutTheBomp · 12/12/2024 23:47

TigerLily that all sounds very difficult. Step out of line and that's you for the chop.

It was just awful. They said if anyone had an opposing opinion on their trans stance at their march then they would "educate them" but weren't willing to be open minded when it came to others views. I did a lot of initial organising for them but then got the chop because I wasn't willing to silence certain women who went against the all important "mission statement". Other women left because they felt it wasn't about women anymore.

Well done for trying, Tigerlily.

I never understand why misogynists and male-focused women want to call themselves feminists, when they actually oppose feminism.

WhoPutTheBomp · 13/12/2024 00:20

A duo of photos to illustrate the madly muddled thinking.

Exhibit A. Pussy hat - verboten (not all women have the same body parts)

Exhibit B. A uterus giving the bird - acceptable (even though it is a hugely terfy image)

Go figure!

But apparently I wasn't a feminist because I wanted to support women being able to have a voice regardless of their views and I wanted to support their right to have single sex spaces in rape clinics etc...
I don't get how you would want to shut women up like that. Every post and meeting was becoming all about men and trans women. Other women had to just deal with it whether they liked it or not.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/12/2024 00:24

What a total shitshow.

Oh my! It just seems to be getting worse. I maybe had a lucky escape. I have seen some comments on X and some stuff on the group is just wild!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/12/2024 00:26

Hopefully the non trans activist women who don't see why it's so toxic for women's rights will have an awakening.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/12/2024 00:27

Are other men being pandered to as well as MTF trans then?

It was beyond toxic. I am all for trans rights but why did the focus have to completely go there. Some other poor woman got banned as she put up a post apposing trans officers from intimate searching women and female officers from having to search males who identify as females. Oh yeah, we aren't meant to refer to ourselves as female now either!

They were allowing men to attend the march so we can "all move forward" together but not allowing women with a different viewpoint to them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/12/2024 00:32

Simpering fools.

It was beyond a shit show. I honestly don't think these marches will come off as they only started organising them last week and telling leads not to stress lol. They closed their Instagram and X account as groups were pulling them up on their bullshit.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/12/2024 00:36

If they don't pull it off due to incompetence you know who they will blame, of course.

Yes people like me who has walked away and others who aren't tolerating their nonsense. It was honestly so tough being treated like that - discriminated against for a view. Imagine wanting to defend the rights of SA survivors etc?
