Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

So they are against sex workers?

I'm assuming the original post was just badly worded. For sex workers, definitely for sex work.

I'm biting my tongue soooo hard. I'm trying to wait until closer to the date to go rogue. I really had to stop myself posting a link to the Manchester dangerous 'woman' story with the comment. "Lots of people have said they're worried about men attending, but let's not forget women can attack other women too"

Me too. Was so tempted to go full on with FB posts and messages to a variety of people exposing this march for what it is. I saw a post about the Edinburgh march by a woman who obviously took over as organiser but this post is now down. Who knows, she maybe saw the light too.

So they said it was just an everyday job "like Tesco's?". A lot of the time women are in sex work due to addiction and trafficking. Certainly not like Tesco's!

Yep. My go to response to 'just like any other job's is usually "if your daughter was a hairdresser her dad might ask her to give him a trim, if she was a sex worker he's unlikely to ask her for a blow job"

I really did get a lucky escape and would be surprised if this march gets off the ground. The organisation is not the best and I hope more women are seeing it for what it is

This thread has been very illuminating. I'm sorry to hear about all the issues people have been having, it's just mad to me that these women would do that.

I am so relieved I came across this and had messages from other women the past couple of days saying they felt the same.
It made me feel like sh*t and that I was somehow in the wrong but it was so toxic.

Mine is to suggest that women in prostitution would need to wear PPE due to the presence of biohazards if it were a job just like any other.

Well, they're intimidating and banning anyone who disagrees or asks questions, so it will seem as though everyone agrees with them. In truth, most people don't.

It's a shame as they could have really done something special with it especially all that is going on for women at the moment. I would never dream of attempting to take away trans rights but why do these activists s*it on women's rights?

Well it’s not like Tesco’s as at least there they have self service.

Absolutely. Sore need for women to not only protest and make noise, but also feel sisterly solidarity and part of a movement.

Unfortunately, this isn't it.

ArabellaScott · 14/12/2024 08:52

As for why they shit on womens rights ... partly because patriarchal standards are so very deeply ingrained in society and in each of us that they are layered and intertwined. It takes a very long time to liberate oneself, and one may think it's not possible to free oneself entirely.

The instinct to defer to men, appease men, and prioritise men is evident in how that group lauded the male allies compared to how they treated women.

Which group did the organiser say she wanted to 'belt'? Terfs, not incels.

Punish women, praise men.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/12/2024 09:08

YY @ArabellaScott it's very stark.

ArabellaScott · 14/12/2024 09:34

I've been a young woman taken in by all that libfem shit. It's only looking back that it is obvious what a con job was pulled on us.

Liberate yourself by stripping, sex work, pole dancing, and self.objectification? How curious that womens liberation looks exactly like men's sexual fantasies.

They allow just enough room for a pretence of bravery - wear a t shirt with a swear on it, say 'fuck the terfs'.

The terfs were never the ones attacking women, abusing women, or using women.

They were the ones trying to sound the alarm.

But the libfem story is that women disagreeing are worse than the incel men who are actually posing a threat to women and girls.

ArabellaScott · 14/12/2024 09:36

The story that older women trying to protect and warn younger women are the bad old witches who must be shunned goes back a long long way.

Are you part of a national group? Interesting in joining one.

The WRN have regional groups, if you go to their website you can sign up to your local one. You'll get put through a simple vetting process and then you'll be able to take part in some really interesting campaigns, attend some fantastic webinars and be a part of what I've found to be an amazing community of strong, inspirational women ❤️

That sounds amazing. Am I right in saying that is the woman rights network?

You also have the sheer relief of meeting up with and talking to women who don’t think you’re a nazi.

Yep Women's Rights Network 😊 it's also non politically affiliated, we try not to talk politics but we are able to gasp disagree on some topics and still get along 😧

Sounds good to me. I am very pro choice but I have a dear friend who is the opposite, actually we are the opposites in a lot of things in politics but we still get along and can have friendly debates.

Yeah sounds good. Fed up of being made out to be public enemy number one for not wanting women's rights to be violated to appease men. One woman in the march group said men should join us as they need access to abortions too and another said the woman boxer with the high levels of testosterone was only being criticised by how she looked and nothing to do with her hormones 😂😂 How can you support that in women's sport?

TigerLily40 · 14/12/2024 20:02

Just seen that the free speech union went to town on a pride parade for not allowing gender critical people for attending. Someone else on FB said this march may be discriminating due to belief under the equality act.

Yes, they have been. Although I see one of the organisers tried to claim they'd only banned women who were making threats or being discriminatory. I expect they've had a wee panic after realising they could be in hot water for discrimination.
