The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

Might I enquire as to whether there are plans for a Peak Woo funicular? I've never been on one and am a little obsessed with the idea.
Also do you do a decent decaf?

FuzzyPuffling · 26/07/2024 18:54

Sings...#funiculi funicular, funicular funiculaaaaaaaar...

Good idea.

We have excellent decaf coffee and tea, plus many herbals, did you doubt it?

Please can I rest here awhile, too? I’ve got a very chilled bottle of vinho verde, posh wine glasses and a homemade lemon drizzle cake.

Anyone sitting here? Vinho Verde is my absolute favourite wine, and lemon drizzle my favourite cake. I just know we shall be firm friends 🧡

FrancescaContini · 26/07/2024 19:23

Please help yourself! Once it’s gone, it’s gone…

"I had a different leaf in my paw earlier - let's call it the 'A leaf' - but it got blown away. I'm holding on tighter to this one. It's a protected B leaf"

Cool. There's a stand up comedienne in tonight.

Got any Rosé?

I have a proper set of Mahjong.

Mahjong, a really great way of getting rid of all that pentup aggression.

At least in my family, where a game was always accompanied by shouts of 'you bastard, I was collecting those dragons'.

That gave me a flashback of my mum talking about Marti Caine's remarkable story. Media often referred to her a "comedienne" although she was multi-talented.

I hadn't realised she was so young when she died.
I'll have a toast to Marti with my Rosé. To Marti and to talented and underappreciated women everywhere

A toast to JKR, & Elaine Miller, & Julie Bindel & Helen Joyce ...hic

Is it ok if I install a gate from the beer garden into my Quokka Sanctuary?

Thats a lovely picture.

Hear hear 🍷
I've been listening to Stella O'Malley interviewing Elaine today and what a joy she is to listen to. Wise, so knowledgeable about women's bodies and infinitely compassionate. And very funny.

Hmm, scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast or lunch? Cup of hot chocolate later?

I presume there's a pub cat ...

Will a pub beetle do?

Purrs unconvincingly

lcakethereforeIam · 26/07/2024 23:05

Toast? I'll drink to that Gin

I've been paddling in the stream and I've misplaced my shoes.

Just be careful if you sit on laps, wouldn't want the pub beetle getting squashed!

(I hope you're not a dermestid beetle. Their larvae are my one and only allergy.)

Goes off to google.... Eeeewe! Nope! Not one of those. I'm much cuter. And I'm starting to get the hang of the purring. Now if I could just purrsuade the drunken rowdy group in the corner to let me have their Tunnock's if I sit on their lap for five minutes!

Catsmere · 26/07/2024 23:54

Glad to hear it!

goes to Google what the divvel Tunnock's is

quantumbutterfly · 27/07/2024 02:06

Mmm tunnocks tea cakes, bite off a bit of chocolate, eat the mallowy bit and leave the biscuity bit till last.

✔️
The correct way to eat a Tunnocks tea cake.

JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight · 27/07/2024 03:12

Nah.

Mmm tunnocks tea cakes, bite off a bit of chocolate, eat the mallowy bit and leave the horrid gluteny biscuity bit till last still in its silver paper on the table.

Remember to tidy it into a bin when leaving.

Could someone put in a large order for glutenless Tunnocks?

Fetlocksblowininthewind · 27/07/2024 05:39

Mind if I plonk myself down in a comfy chair and just soak in the atmosphere with a cuppa?
I can make some pretty good cinnamon buns if I say so myself, and tasty bread to go with soups when it gets cold if that helps.

I've been feeling a bit frayed around the edges lately so a cuddle with the pub cat & dog, maybe a little bask in the hammocks in the garden while the sun is out, and being surrounded by other women just chilling and laughing would fix me right up!

Igmum · 27/07/2024 07:34

@Waitwhat23 there's a game of Mahjong in the Muder of Roger Ackroyd. Not sure about symbolism but it's a fun show of character and an excuse to get information about the plot across (it is, apparently, chatty Mahjong 'of the worst variety').

Just stroking the cat now and looking forward to scrambled eggs and smoked trout or possibly bacon and eggs for breakfast.

Catsmere · 27/07/2024 07:45

Never played Mahjong, mind if I knit and listen to how it's done? My only experience of it is when it's played in the kids' book The White Dragon by Richard Garnett.

WarriorN · 27/07/2024 07:51

I throw Mahjong tiles at the kids when they're ultra bored. Funky jenga.

Not actually throw, obvs.

You'll be in need of the chutzpah, it's in the cupboard. Let me go get it and fill it with water and epsom salts.

Mahjong is just Gin Rummy that you need reading glasses to play. Or you can play with yourself. May as well get them both out at the same time.
