The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

Rowies are a heart attack on a plate, and therefore 100% scottish and 100% delicious. I may have imbibed a time or two when brother resided in the North East and brought home 1 million calories worth at a weekend....

Ah, those were the days.

Behold.

Can I come and drink gin in my pyjamas, please?

SidewaysOtter · 26/07/2024 15:47

There’s a proper fireplace with inglenooks and comfy (if slightly) battered chairs, yes? And a supply of board games? I do like a good board game.

BIWI · 26/07/2024 15:48

Perhaps there should have been a comma there ...

"Can I come and drink gin, in my pyjamas, please?"

ErrolTheDragon · 26/07/2024 15:54

I've never had a Rowie, but thought when I saw them in some tv program or other they looked like a good solid alternative to croissants.

No-one's going to tell anyone else what they should and shouldn't wear in here.
And tbh the only commas worth commenting on are the butterflies in the garden.

No, use a glass like everyone else...

I'll be looking through the bookshelf, full of battered old paperbacks, to find a book to read beside the roaring wood fire with either a large hot chocolate with brandy shot or a sloe gin and tonic. I'm up for a wee board game too - I like the Sherlock Holmes game. I'll look for some pens.

(If anyone has been to Roslyn Chapel, there is (or used to be) a chapel cat which was the biggest draw for me, fascinating though the Chapel is)

Waitwhat23 · 26/07/2024 16:12

And I've never heard it called a rowie, only a buttery though admittedly I'm not from Aberdeen.

I'm up for a board game...not Monopoly though, and I'm rubbish at chess.

If it's just the million, did he eat the other half of the rowie on the train before you even saw it?

I have a proper set of Mahjong.

CocklesandMussels · 26/07/2024 17:12

Is there room in the pub for a very long term lurker who isn’t much into posting online but could do with a cup of tea (milk no sugar) and large slab of cake?

Of course. BrewCake

Aww, the Blue Stocking. Brilliant, Errol!

I walked past a couple of times, but the candle in the window had gone out.

Lately though, I did notice that the panes had been cleaned and were glistening. And the path had been swept.

Good job too. I've been manhandling that bloody illegal still at Shady Pines, and I'm knackered.

Cheers!

Snowypeaks · 26/07/2024 17:29

Dear God. They can be deep-fried after baking as well. Of course. Why wouldn't you?

I've never played proper mahjong <excited>

Same. It seems dead sophisticated

Seaside1234 · 26/07/2024 17:42

I'm heading into the garden to do the weeding and set up a cut flower patch. Do you do a decent non-alc selection?

FrancescaContini · 26/07/2024 17:56

Please can I rest here awhile, too? I’ve got a very chilled bottle of vinho verde, posh wine glasses and a homemade lemon drizzle cake.

Thanks, and of course!

Gardening can be very therapeutic, I might join you out there with the loppers.

Oooh you know my brother!! Hi!

Waitwhat23 · 26/07/2024 18:20

My only knowledge of Mahjong is through Agatha Christie, where I think she used moves to show symbolism between characters (apparently)
