The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

Naice coffee ...

Yes, bread roll. I've also seen it misspelled balm. Which I find charming, there's something good for the soul in getting stuck in and then digesting it. And it's barm/balm 'cake', so suits me down to the ground 😃

I presume there's a pub cat ...

Yes, she's unusual in that she only insinuates herself on cat lovers. Similar applies to the pub dogs.

What clevers!

(My girl goes the feline "How to Win Friends and Influence People" route - she's quite sure any human who visits me is there to be her friend. She's usually proven right.)

RitaIncognita · 26/07/2024 12:50

Ah, the Bluestocking. I used to dip in and out in days of yore (under a different name). Good times.

EdithStourton · 26/07/2024 13:08

Is there a pub physio? I have buggered my back doing the gardening and my usual physio is fully booked till the end of August.

That aside, I'm happy to volunteer to eat a Sunday roast - which I assume will be on the menu when the time comes.

In the meantime, I'll take a gin and commune with the quokkas.

EmilieDuChatelet · 26/07/2024 13:16

Lovely to have The Bluestocking back. I'm a lurker, but would love to hang out in the beer garden on a Friday lunchtime with a glass of rose and a crab sandwich, as it's summer time. Or a cheese and tomato batch.

Nice to be here. Hellos all round

Aah the decorators finally finished? Loving the new carpet.

Right, I'm in the nook, with a book. One published before 2010 from my stash with no sensitivity redactions.

I'm nursing a lime and soda on ice.

If I start muttering and swearing just pat me on the head.

And feel free pop some 90s music on the jukebox. I've hacked it so it is free so nobody lose the last remaining 10p coin as it is the last one I have. Some early Pulp would be grand if anyone can be arsed to walk over.

DrSoupDragonsFriend · 26/07/2024 13:48

Please can I reserve a hammock in the garden, maybe overnight if there's no rain forecast? Thanks. 🙂

Stottie cake
Barm cake
Pan loaf

There are many regional bread delights in the Bluestocking.

We call em baps here.

As in "get yer baps out"

I spread mine with salted butter and stuff em with chips.

Compash · 26/07/2024 14:38

Now the pub cat has got off my lap to bestow her blessings upon another, I am happy to do my share of fetching drinks and sustenance for others... for this I will not expect a medal, nor egregious praise for 'helping'...

🥲

lcakethereforeIam · 26/07/2024 14:49

That would bring all the boys to the yard!

LeFromage · 26/07/2024 14:59

Ah it all looks so lush. And such variety on the menu. And so many boxes of Square crisps behind the bar. Please can I order a toasted goats cheese and jalapeño chilli jam croissant with rocket and tomato and a pint of lime and soda water with plenty of ice - I missed the 1pm walk to Peaky woo but I’ll need a scream later

persister · 26/07/2024 15:00

Pan loaf and Soor Plooms. I left Scotland many years ago and this is like reminiscence therapy, how wonderful. I don't suppose there'd be a wee Forfar Bridie going spare?

Compash · 26/07/2024 15:04

Order for @PeachyKeane !
