The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

MN used to have a specific board called The Stationary Cupboard at one time. I'm beginning to see why. It would occasionally get used for other purposes when people didn't want to put their thread on one of the better known boards.

I don't mind about different length pencils, but I do like to arrange them in spectrum order.

But then the ones which don't fit nicely into the spectrum are annoying - some of the pastel colours, browns and greys.
Storing them vertically in a pot as a colour wheel probably doesn't solve all the problems either.

I'm rather glad my serious use of colour is digital Grin

My solution, but I admit the light blue jars a little.

Oh, I love it in here, I've never met any fellow stationery lovers.

In my second job, years ago, I was in charge of the stationery cupboard, ordering, organizing, distributing, admiring how uniform the sets were...happy days for my OCD!

One hundred a fifty-eight felt tip pens in one box, for the truly addicted.
They are felt-tip pens, not 'sharpies', I'm resisting this creeping Americanisation in the Felt-Tip Pen Community..Smile

Back in the 90s, I used to have a Staples Card. Which meant money off stationary. I once dated a guy based on the fact that he also had one.

Myself and a friend used to visit Manchester City Centre just to go to the Paperchase shop.

When I became a manager with my own budget line for stationary - one of my team left the huge order catalogue on my desk saying 'you may as well keep this'. I am still using some of that stuff I bought that first month! 22 years ago.

My name is SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius, and I am addicted to stationary and coloured threads.

Amateur!
My name is ifIwerenotanandroid, and I am addicted to stationary and coloured threads. And yarns and fabrics and paints and unusual nail polish.

Isn't this a party game? Next contestant, please.

Are the bookshelves in the bluestocking ordered by aesthetic appeal, author or subject?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 08/08/2024 13:27

My DH has just retired & is getting into making art. I thought this would be a great opportunity to buy in even more supplies, but so far everything he's mentioned I already have, sometimes multiple iterations of it, too.

One time we were discussing how to do a certain thing & one of us suggested it would be ideal if there was such a thing as a drawing gum pen. So I got onto ebay & found there is such a thing - & it said, 'you've already bought this'.😂

Amazingly, I found it, too. I feel I live in perpetual chaos, but my art equipment is VERY organised.

Or (takes out garlic) by colour of spine?

While in the Bluestocking, I've been hard at work in the Art Wing's mosaic room & produced this tribute to the goats. I hope it might be considered for inclusion in any future exhibition that might be held in the Bluestocking Gallery.

The Stationary Cupboard has to be in Pedantry CornerWink

Hopefully according to author, or the Dewey Decimal System, or anything other than this interior decoration trend... it really is a 'thing'😱

The Bluestocking has the remarkable ability to exist in several superimposed macroscopic quantum states, so the books are simultaneously arranged according to all the methods mentioned. Except the abomination in Marie's photo, that would collapse the wave function and possibly all of civilised society.

When I see interviews with bookshelves in the background I look to see what the interviewee is reading...and I judge 😁especially the one who had bookshelf wallpaper instead of actual books.

Terry Pratchett called it L-space.

What a beautiful and very dignified looking goat!

@ifIwerenotanandroid what is the title of your capricious masterpiece?

'GOAT' as in Greatest Of All Time. It is symbolic of many things, and indeed of nothing. waffles on for 15 minutes

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/08/2024 14:00

I've been gardening out the back and have put in some gloriously fragrant roses, so the perfume should waft around nicely for anyone sitting outside. Hopefully it'll waft in through the door and windows too.

@ifIwerenotanandroid what is the title of your capricious masterpiece?

It has a certain nobility which is sadly lacking in the Bluestocking goats.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 08/08/2024 14:01

Wrong quote - that was for @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast - sorry!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 08/08/2024 14:02

Ooh lovely! Thanks, Vege!

Is it okay if I collect some rose petals for the downstairs spa?

Please do! They're all about to have a spectacular second flowering so there are plenty of flowers and enough to scent many rooms.
