The Bluestocking is reopening

It's time we reopened the Bluestocking, I think.

This is the FWR pub, situated in the charming village of Badley Fuckitt near the Shady Pines rest home. It has a cannon (for reasons lost in the mists of time), goats in the paddock next to the beer garden and a menu including many soups and cakes. It's open all hours, serving breakfast and tea to all weary women, in addition to being the ideal location to metaphorically drown your sorrows.

Mug of black coffee for me pls. We have chickens, and I'd love ducks, but they are apparently a step up. Messy, don't put themselves to bed like chickens do and therefore prone to getting foxed, obviously need some water. Awesome though. I shall enjoy any pub ducks that appear

wrongthinker · 07/08/2024 09:35

I'm on the coffee. I did a 40 minute "easy" pilates class this morning and I think I'm broken.

Are runner ducks the ones that look like a duck and a walking stick had a baby?

Yes, for tea please. No milk.

That's a very accurate description Grin

Just googled runner ducks. Puts me in mind of prince Phillip on a walkabout with his hands behind his back.

@ErrolTheDragon Must go back to the old thread and check out who it was liked a good clean up. Certainly wasn't me either. I think perhaps the Bluestocking has it's own cleaning fairy as opposed the the messy fairy that frequently gets in my house

Dumbo12 · 07/08/2024 12:03

Just don't anyone suggest an effing cleaning rota! I'll have to find a different place to escape to, and I've just got comfy in this corner. Plus I'll have to pack up the spinning wheel and knitting and it takes ages.

lcakethereforeIam · 07/08/2024 12:35

We've employed some of the Grimbut gerbils to do the cleaning. Not the washing up though. They're too little to load and unload the dishwasher.

I have had a go at spinning with a drop spindle, but couldn't get the hang of it at all, @Dumbo12. I do have yarnie friends who have spinning wheels, but I've never had a go myself. Instead, Wool Warehouse and I have a deep friendship!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/08/2024 12:45

Oh - and 'aqua data est' translates as 'water was given'. I am doing Latin on duolingo as well, but I had to google that.😳

Of course not. The purpose of this pub is a place for women to come and relax comfortably together in whatever way they want.

Thank goodness I was getting worried with people starting to mutter about cleaning. It fair reminded me of offices where someone starts on about "the break room cleaning" next thing you know they've drawn up a rota and you find yourself expected to wash behind the fridge every Thursday!

AlisonDonut · 07/08/2024 13:53

I am back down to NO courgettes, cucumbers and gherkins apart from the ones on the plants. One person took a trug full. Tried to swap them for a kitten but I resisted.

I don't do cleaning. Before you ask.

I'm off back up to my potting shed to do some glazing. I ran out of time this morning.

EdithStourton · 07/08/2024 13:55

@Dumbo12 are you perchance, like me, an East Anglian? Your use of 'fair' made my little ear prick up.

In other matters...
The sourdough is going nowhere fast, sadly. The soup is lovely, but it's going to be either brick bread or no bread with it later on.

Dumbo12 · 07/08/2024 14:08

@EdithStourton ,No, no known links with east anglia, West Yorkshire, with one Irish grandparent. I think it's a pennine thing, very much in "hill folk" land, right next door to Lancashire 😁

MarieDeGournay · 07/08/2024 14:09

That's the mild version, Dumbo12, the version I remember is
'I think something should be done to keep the break room tidier'
'Excellent idea, Marie, thanks for volunteering to do that!'😡

Dumbo12 · 07/08/2024 14:14

@MarieDeGournay I must confess I may well have been the person who would counter your first comment, with the come back. Because I would have been avoiding the dreaded cleaning rota.

Boiledbeetle · 07/08/2024 15:07

I've spent since Sunday cleaning the living room, and I'm still not finished so I'm not even prepared to help the gerbils load the dish washer. They can find another sucker.

I'll have a point of full fat coke I think. Then back to cleaning!

And there was me thinking that using 'fair' like that was entirely a Norfolk Thing.

Educational, this pub. All these people on Duolingo too...

Seaside1234 · 07/08/2024 17:14

The bar is alive with the pings of Duolingo. I'm doing French and Swedish

I have been befriending the Quokkas with a view to some cuddles in bed tonight.

Do they wiggle around a lot like toddlers, in ones bed. Could not find the answer on the internet so thought i would ask here.

You googled 'are quokkas frisky in bed?'

Wonder what that's done to your algorithms.

Bannedontherun · 07/08/2024 18:49

@quantumbutterfly Oh fuck 😂

good job am here the RSPCA might be at my house, or the police.

DeanElderberry · 07/08/2024 18:51

I'm sure quokkas are just like pussycats, and keep to their own side of the bed, don't tramp across your head in the small hours, don't stalk round the house howling their head off during the darkest part of the night, don't decide to sleep on your hip and guilt trip you if you try to move, don't stare at you and drool on your face just before waking up time, don't gak up horrid hairballs mid way between you and the loo, don't snuggle onto your nice warm sheets while you are briefly away at said loo (and doing emergency foot-washing), don't shed hairs that get into your computer mouse and sabotage it, don't drink the water from your bedside glass even though they have their own bowl, don't try to kill your feet through the bedspread leaving horrible bloody gashes.

Like I say, just like pussycats, no bad habits at all.

Ya could, but I heard they kis n tel

Chersfrozenface · 07/08/2024 19:00

I think it might be best to cuddle actual quokkas in an armchair and a toy quokka in bed.

It's what I'd do 1) in order to get a decent night's sleep and 2) to avoid any misunderstandings.
