Trans Ideology - a real life debate

Forester1 · 26/10/2023 19:11

So something that is far too rare - a proper debate

For me positions can be summarised as:

Mark Glenening - free speech paramount - and shouldnt have compelled speech
Helen Joyce - Single sex spaces are needed - males need to keep out - however they identify
Freda Wallace - Me, me, me, my sex life, me
Peter Tatchell - Akin to fight for gay rights, black rights. I don’t see any issues. Be kind.

DEBATE: Does transgender ideology threaten liberal values?

Debates surrounding gender identity have gained prominence in the last few years.Trans rights activists have argued that trans people have a right to be reco...

I have not even carved a pumpkin this year. This may or may not be a feminist statement. Was this an attempt to avoid unwanted calls at the door?

I don't think it is a matter of 'submissiveness'. I think that may be a projection of a more masculine drive.

What do you mean by submissive?

I'm not talking in terms of anything nasty or scary here, more a case of being the more passive partner in a relationship akin to the traditional female role in a heterosexual partnership. I understand that some, but not all, lesbian relationships work in this manner.

RebelliousCow · 31/10/2023 19:57

But you are still talking about how it appears from the outside. I don't think it is possible to really understand the deeply intimate experience of living in the opposite sexed body. That is why when many TW talk about their experienece it often seems entirely superficial and based on stereotypical and imagined characteristics.

Edited

Of course Alpha has no idea how it feels to be in a woman's body. Just like I have no idea how it feels to have an erection or to ejaculate and no woman can ever know.

Yes. We have a pretty well regarded understanding locally that guisers only go to houses with a pumpkin.

ArthurbellaScott · 31/10/2023 20:12

It works pretty well. Those who don't want to participate in the joy of Hallowe'en remain unmolested; those who are up for it get to have fun. Thankfully, most people are happy to respect each others' boundaries.

Froodwithatowel · 31/10/2023 20:15

The anxiety of strangers coming to the door in this area has been in the way of us being willing to join in for some years. No one minds the little kids, but a lot of large teenaged boys in gangs is quite worrying.

ArthurbellaScott · 31/10/2023 20:18

Oh, no!

The kids here are usually really sweet and I love having them round. I just have a head cold and can't face sharing it with everyone or getting up and down to answer the door. I absolutely have not kept the sweeties for myself.

I agree to an extent. Certainly changes to one's body undertaken voluntarily in one's 40s are going to feel very different to those that happen in puberty whether you want them to or not. So in that sense trans women can never be women, although I would suggest we are something other than men - my body is no longer fully "male" in appearance.

In every sense, transwomen can never be women!
At what point do you think a man stops being a man? What about men who say they identify as trans but don't alter their body in any way? Isn't it transphobic to imply someone should alter their body to be trans?

ChishiyaBat · 31/10/2023 20:25

Alpha is really showing his true colours with his last few posts! Just a gross vile and disgusting individual, with no thought for anyone but himself! I really feel for his poor wife!

You stop being a "man" once you stop identifying as one. I do feel a lot more feminine though, having taken irreversible steps to feminise my body, if you see what I mean.

Oooh a bird! I am a crazy bird loving lady, with 4 parrots&2 budgies, thanks for that little sweetie!

But you don't stop being a man anymore than I would grow whiskers if I decided I was cat.

We are running out of space so could you please answer my very simple question do you think you would be trans in Afghanistan?

ChishiyaBat · 31/10/2023 20:29

@AlphaTransWoman you never stop being a man, you were born that way! Doesn't matter what you do you are and always will be male!

AlphaTransWoman · 31/10/2023 20:29

@Girlontherailreplacementbusservice

I think I'd be dead pretty quickly in Afghanistan, given the Taliban's attitude towards anyone LGBT.

@howdoesatoastermaketoast

To be fair to me, in my ideal world, all toilets would be fully enclosed, including individual washbasins. So they could all be unisex and nobody would care.

@AlphaTransWoman have you forgotten me and our conversations? Of course you have. And the thousands of people in this country who rely on the visibility of the gaps of toilet doors to keep them safe. Actually physically safe. For all sorts of reasons.

Your type of toilet won’t work for anyone who collapses inside them and need help. No one would know. Doesn’t matter which sex you are. The toilets you describe usually open inwards as well so the whole frame needs to be removed with special tools (I spoke to the manufacturer of one like this) if the body is pushed against the door.

Also these enclosed private mixed sex cubicles are handy for all sorts of illegal activities. Remember my post yet? At least one rape reported per school day inside British schools? That was discussed in Parliament in 2015-2016 yet because of the ideology, more schools are starting to use your idea of toilets. And then there’s the fact inside the toilets you can’t see if anyone is outside waiting for you. Can you see any problems yet?

oh and I have cleaned rows of toilets. A long door scraping on the floor is not good compared to a mop you can slide under the gap. And from an evacuation point of view you can easily see if anyone is in the row quickly, such as in fire in a school.

You are wrong LOTS of people would care and lots of people will come to harm if these were the default toilets.

So you would be trans in Afghanistan? (Because it is the only alphabet code you tick). Even though there are no pretty clothes or make-up?

That is so horribly insulting to women..
Why would you say that?
Oh, I know, It's because you are a man and you don't care.

Melroses · 31/10/2023 20:33

Sorry that went badly - my gif tech expertise is sadly lacking. :(

ChishiyaBat · 31/10/2023 20:33

Aww so sweet @Melroses my parrots just eat My pumpkins😂

Froodwithatowel · 31/10/2023 20:33

Come on. Logically. Someone who is afraid to go into a British men's toilet apparently, is hardly going to be willing to present as a male identifying as female in a country where he would be killed for it.

Who would?

The point being of course that men can simply stop identifying and step back into privilege. Women can't.

So back to parrots and pumpkins which are much more interesting.
