In today's DT:

digitaleditions.telegraph.co.uk/data/1387/reader/reader.html?social#!preferred/0/package/1387/pub/1387/page/40/article/NaN

Sorry, I don't know how to get past the paywall.

It's about the person who was upset when given the key to the unisex changing room in a Sheffield hotel.

Complete absence of comment replies on the British Swimming Twitter feed. Are they busy deleting?

Sounds like the competitive swimming scene has been validating 'Anne' for years.

Be kind, innit?

Of course, kindness only works one way in these situations and no-one thought to be kind to the girls and women who didn’t want to share changing rooms with Anne and Anne’s reasons for wanting to be in there. Which are, I’m sure, absolutely honourable. Absolutely. Definitely. After all, what possible other type of reasons could there be for Anne to be in women-only spaces?

But now the winds have changed direction and there’s going to be a lot of organisations who are going to not want their lack of basic safeguarding highlighted…

There also appears to be a "weekend factor" with posts that accurately sex males and challenge the erosion of safeguarding for children disappearing swiftly.
I've got a lot of time for MNHQ and the losses that they've faced by allowing women to speak (relatively) freely, but there does seem to be a level of inconsistency that is unhelpful.

Perhaps that’s linked to the board being more active at weekend due to discussion of articles in the weekend papers?

I wonder why he ("Anne Coombes) called her Myra?!

Someone pointed out, maybe on this thread, maybe on the other one on this subject, that after 1964 the name Myra dropped immediately and permanently out of use as a female name because of Myra Hindley. I've only ever met two Myras and they were both my age (I was born in 1954). It's a a very nasty dig at that woman who is guilty of nothing but not giving Anne what they're demanding - (because everyone will immediately think of Hindley) and I'd be very surprised if that name was chosed at random.

My guess is she’s called Mary and Coombes thought rearranging the letters was a clever way of not using her name whilst still disclosing to all the other club members which woman objected.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 29/07/2023 17:58

Could be. That's a lot more straightforward as an explanation, but Anne could have said Jane or Susan or Louisa and not used Myra (with all its baggage) at all. Unless of course Anne wanted people to identify Myra and out her as a transphobe and that was the way chosen.

Since swimming pools re-opened after the first lockdown, so a maximum of three years in total. Two years of accessing female open plan changing rooms.

Absolutely to identify her.

Re: GRC, I suspect Coombes might be rather stuck due to the existence of a Mrs Coombes and that pesky spousal clause!

There is a rather successful swimmer named Lorraine Coombes who is around the same age as Anne and lives in the same area… can’t confirm a connection via a cursory Google search but wouldn’t be surprised if she’s the long suffering wife… just based on what I have learned from
list to trans widows.

As for ‘Myra’, well, imagine a bloke has been turning up at your sports club for THIRTY YEARS and then suddenly decides he’s female and insists on sharing your changing room?

“I am female and both my children refer to me as their dad.”

This is why the GRA needs to be abolished.

  • Disingenuous politicians use the piece of paper it awards to claim they will protect female spaces but they include biological males in the definition of female.
  • Mendacious and self-interested individuals use it to gaslight and bully.
forgotmyusername1 · 29/07/2023 18:10

Anne was asking for a hook up while in Sheffield so I hope that is the no longer suffering ex wife

BreadInCaptivity · 29/07/2023 18:17

I'm always struck by the repeated actions of men who claim womanhood in failing to consider or empathise with the feelings of women and girls.

Many Trans woman maintain their male entitlement and the "right" to subjugate woman to ensure their needs are met - irrespective of the impact on the opposite sex.

In so many instances I can't help feel that in attempting to assert a female identity they serve to highlight their innate masculinity and socialisation.

I judge people by their actions, not what they wear or what they claim.

When those actions include totally unnecessary trips through an open female changing area given an alternative route was available for all officials then the conclusions I'm going to arrive at are blindingly obvious.

I don't care if that upsets Anne because Anne doesn't care about upsetting women (including apparently his own wife).

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 29/07/2023 18:25

Anne Coombes is as basic MAMIL as you can get.

heathspeedwell · 29/07/2023 18:51

Remember the award-winning film Spotlight? It revealed that journalists found evidence that at least 6% of priests in Boston had abused children. I was shocked that at least one in 17 of those men had studied in seminary college for 7 years to gain access to child victims.

Coombes has stated that anyone 'decent' would support self ID.

But somehow Coombes has failed to realise that self ID means that all a man has to do to access naked teens is to put on a wig and a skirt then volunteer at swim club.

Surely anyone decent would recognise the glaring safeguarding risks of allowing any male person who puts on a skirt to access areas where girls are undressing?

HarrietJet · 29/07/2023 18:55

Behaving like Anne whilst demanding "decent" behaviour from others is a fucking farce, but so, so, typical. Scandalous.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 29/07/2023 19:21

Surely anyone decent would recognise the glaring safeguarding risks of allowing any male person who puts on a skirt to access areas where girls are undressing?

You'd have thought so, given that you could probably stop 20 random people in the street and ask them what they thought about this and get the response that it's a safeguarding risk and what the hell is going on that this is even allowed to happen - but then you read that the Parole Board approved the release of a man who murdered two girls and when released before had to be recalled back to prison for accosting women. Anyone could have told them that that, like allowing a male person in a skirt around naked female teenagers, probably wasn't a good idea but they went ahead and did it anyway.

So the question really is - how can ordinary people see all this but people in charge can't? and can't see it over and over again?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 29/07/2023 19:21

Coombes has stated that anyone 'decent' would support self ID

Coombes doesn't get to define 'decent' and the attempt to do so is pure manipulation.

That’s a good point actually. I guess this rule will safeguard boys as well as women and girls.

It is a safeguarding issue.

I wonder whether anyone has looked at whether there were legal issues with the person walking though the girls changing area (from the interviews it sounds as though they were minors) and making them uncomfortable.

LoobiJee · 29/07/2023 19:31

Mavis

RunAway is referencing the many posts on MN from women whose husbands have a hobby which costs a lot and takes up a lot of time - being heavily into cycling - and means the husbands are out of the house for hours at weekends leaving childcare and the domestic burden to their wives. The acronym MAMIL = Middle Aged Men In Lycra and refers to the obsessive cyclists who have all the kit. There’s also a phrase All The Gear No Idea which I think can overlap with MAMIL.

MillWood85 · 29/07/2023 12:35

How awful for those poor girls. And why should they have their needs completely pushed to one side for men like this??!

I'm glad that action has been taken, but it's still whitewashing to a degree. They've just banned volunteers. Even the decent female ones without agendas.

I agree it's terrible that women and girls have to put up with this. It's a typical male show of power which completely disregards the rights of others.

Helena7319 · 29/07/2023 19:40

namechanger563 · 29/07/2023 13:21

I'm just piecing this together. They were staying in a hotel in Sheffield. At their own expense. To volunteer at a children's swimming competition. For what, 4 nights? At about £100 a night? Plus other out of pockets expenses such as dinner etc. That's a lot of money.

AC must really love the sport, it's so kind to do all that and go to that much expense. Most volunteers are parents of the kids or people who work within Swimming. You have to be very motivated to spend your time and money volunteering for something that's not your job and your child isn't competing.

It does make you wonder what's in it for him doesn't it?

Catsanfan · 29/07/2023 19:41

I could faint at the letter about 'Myra' (well chosen name you utter bastard) 'Myra', if you are around - we 'TERF's support you!
